Hi folk.

my 1tb st31000340AS has died 2 days ago. i don hear any knocking comng out of it, and i hear the plates spinning fine.

the problem is - it woldnt be detected in BIOS :((

Please, other then RMAing it to seagate, is there any other solution to this grave issue ?

Considering yourself as "another victim", you'd suspect other have posted about that problem. Loads. Have you searched ? The 1st page of this forum ? The stickies, half of which are about Seagate 7200.11 ? :hello:

Video appears to suggest using USB connection with Nokia CA-42 USB cable (a cell phone adapter)

RS-232 is just a Serial Port connector. The pins inside are what's used to make the "splice" connection.

Any "serial cable" (i.e. "COM Port Cable") will do. Just "tear it open" to get the connectors off/out... (note - you might want to get one that isn't encased in "plastic")

hey guys

finaly question. what if bought another HDD of the SAME model as this one (obviously with better firmware) and connect its board to the defected HDD

would that help in anyway ??
