heres my latest batch file & lastsession! you would also need to run vlite with the -extreme switch as i also removed windows communication foundation. also i manually removed files from the windows\inf & system32\driverstore\filerepository & the winsxs folder along with the wallpapers & games & optical media disc files & winre.wim from system32\recovery & windows powershell. becareful on what you remove from the winsxs folder tho as that can break some components such as windows search

Thanks. What I do not understand is, that when I remove everything besides manual Setup and winsxs, that I only have the following packages:

Microsoft-Windows-Client-LanguagePack-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~en-US~6.1.7232.0
Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7232.0
Microsoft-Windows-LocalPack-AU-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7232.0
Microsoft-Windows-LocalPack-CA-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7232.0
Microsoft-Windows-LocalPack-GB-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7232.0
Microsoft-Windows-LocalPack-US-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7232.0
Microsoft-Windows-LocalPack-ZA-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7232.0

This seems to make the dism-removal only necessary for those components that fail by vLite-removal. If at all possible:

For instance should I remove IE and Windows Firewall with dism, does the installation work or does it also fail (as if removed by vLite).

you will need to keep the client language pack & the foundation package! you will need ie too (for the moment) as it can cause some problems in windows explorer?

Well, I think that removing all packages with vLite (leftover only these showed packages) produce a image that don't install.

That I am also certain of underxp. However I had hoped to see all packages left over, so that I would know what to remove with dism before running vLite. Turns out, that "no matter how many" packages you remove with vLite, dism will always show these packages of which I would not think of removing the first 2.

Man your install size is < that mine !!!!

Check this:

1) 7229 x86 ULTIMATE have 364 packages/features.

2) Original DISM remove guide from dead0 remove 72 packages (your txt remove 87 packages !!!!!!)

3) vLite "see" about 179 packages

364 (ALL) - 72 (Dead0 guide) - 179 (vLite package list) = 113 --> not visible/removible with vLite ?

After applying DISM, vLite DON'T show correct packages leftover.

see my new batch file, a few posts above! it removes less with dism but deletes more with vlite

@dead0:

Please note that SQM can be removed, but does Windows Update work afterwards for me it did not?

Also why do you remove components with dism in stead of vLite. What is your motivation, what do you base your dicision on or what is your motivation otherwise?

I have no luck with the attached preset. Installation does finish the 1st phase and reboot, but in the next phase it errors out.

try keeping these & see how it goes?

Distributed File System (DFS)

File and printer sharing (Server)

Network Explorer

Jet Database Engine

on my current build with the above batch file/lastsession, everything works including windows update!

some of those components do not show up in vlite so i removed them first with dism ie if i remove Microsoft-Windows-Shell-InboxGames-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7229.0 then i could remove game explorer with vlite, or if i remove Microsoft-Windows-PeerDist-Client-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7229.0, then the branch service is not shown in service tweaks?

Dead0, removing the package Microsoft-Windows-Printer-Drivers-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7229.0 will break install any printer? Or this package is driver only? Because I always need to install a PDF printer.
