nashi989 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) I just joined especially to say thanks to the creators of install xp from USB, it's helped me a lot . Well here's the scenario, while installing xp using txtsetup on my dell dimension 5000 i got this error while setup checked drive c before copying files : .sif file used by setup is corrupted or missing setup cannot continue. The error also mentioned the file binifix4.cmd under [sourceDisksFiles] (i cannot remember the exact wording of the error)To fix it i removed the usb plugged it into my laptop and opened up txtsetup.sif in notepad and ctrl+F'd sourcedisksfiles. I noticed that the code for binifix4.cmd along with undoren.cmd and ren_fold.cmd read:100,,,,,,_x,2,0,0 which differed from the other million files which read: 1,,,,,,3_,2,0,0,,1,2 simply changing the 100 to a 1 and then saving the .sif file fixed the corrupt .sif problem. I don't know if this is a mistake in the .sif or not but it fixed my problem. Hopefully this will help anyone who gets this error, i think its pretty rare as a google brought up few relevant hits. ilko_t Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Was the source with any service pack? What are contents of SourceDisksNames.x86 and Strings sections in txtsetup.sif?

ilko_t Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 No service packs just original retail version.I guess that explains why.Perhaps not very many people are using similar version, as this syntax has been used since the first versions of USB_prepare and USB_multiboot and no one reported the issue. Thanks for posting this, will take care of it in the next version.
ilko_t Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Hmm, just checked WinSetupFromUSB 0.1 beta, 0.1 and the latest 0.1.1, all them use 1, NOT 100. What did you use to prepare your USB stick?
nashi989 Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 (edited) usb multiboot 10, maybe that's why? Edited March 29, 2009 by nashi989
ilko_t Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Yeah, it uses 100. I had the wrong impression from your first post that you have used WinSetupFromUSB.
wimb Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 In USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd the value of 100 was used, but this value was already present in the very first program.I think 100 is used for SP1 and 1 for Original files. It will be better to change the program so that the value is 1 for the added txtsetup.sif entries.Surprising that after more than 500.000 downloads we receive the first reported problem with these txtsetup.sif entries
cdob Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Surprising that after more than 500.000 downloads we receive the first reported problem with these txtsetup.sif entries No service packs just original retail version.Plain XP dosn't support USB2.0. Installation may take some time, if it works a all.Several thousand user used XP SP1 at last so far.
jaclaz Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Surprising that after more than 500.000 downloads we receive the first reported problem with these txtsetup.sif entries It's also surprising the 500.000 figure! As a side note, it's an interesting "psychological" and absolutely empirical observation how this proves that people are:1) mostly (beside harmless ) ungrateful2) completely failing to read or comply with what they read Check the data of views of the main stickies:http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=157right now:Sticky: How to install from USB- WinSetupFromUSB with GUI 183897Sticky: Install XP from USB AFTER Booting with PE from HDD or USB 25417Sticky: How to install XP from USB 292504 15th June 2008 - 08:49 AMSticky: FAQs Please read before starting a new topic 18166Sticky: Credits and thankyou's 3806So, out of 183,897+25,417+292,504=501,818 views, only 18,166 had even a quick glance at FAQ's (less than 4%), besides the several ones that didn't read the FAQ'S and posted a new thread asking what was already covered in them, and only 3,806 (less than 0.7%) were curious enough to check what could be in the "thankyou's" thread, and of these, we had 3 (read three) thankyou's, ALL of them by longtime members of the board (to which we may add the few, maybe tens from people, like nashi989 , that posted a thank you on another thread....501,818 to 3 against would be some nice figures to feed into the Improbability Drive..... jaclaz
