I have done exactly as in this diagram. I am using USB to TTL:

I get nothing from HyperTerminal when connected to PCB. I have checked all connections and tried rearranging them.

Loopback works fine.

Find out if the adapter is powered from the USB side. If that's the case, you don't need to route power from the PSU. Instead, you'll have to connect as follows since the drive uses GND to communicate with the adapter:

Adap.VCC(5V+) <---> Not connected to anything

Adap.TX <---> Barracuda.RX

Adap.RX <---> Barracuda.TX

Adap.GND <---> Barracuda.GND

Connect the drive to the PSU like normal.

POST: xyz

The GND wire is connected?.

The hard disk makes strange noises?

The operation of the disk is normal?

Put your hand over it a bit.

An engine, if you know it, is predictable.

are the guides in the first pages of this thread still the best to go by, or have new approaches emerged in the course of the thread that are easier/cheaper that I should be looking into instead?

hello

i have a seagate st3500320as firmware sd15 bricked

so i tried this forum's method with a dku-5 nokia cable

but when i have to enter the U command i had this error :

Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008

Spin Error

Elapsed Time 8.617 secs

R/W Status 2 R/W Error 84150180

so i stopped everything and cleaned up my connectors

but since this i can't connect to the HDD and can't communicate with it........

i read that to fix this kind of error i had to completely remove the pcb from the HDD

do you think it will work for me ?

any idea ? (sorry for my mistakes)

I've update the firmware now on SD1A but have again BSY error problem.

How I can do for fix and recovery my data?

What I can do?! are all my files lose?

The solution posted is difficult for me.

I'm italian, if there is an italian guy that want try to help me, I would appreciate.

You have to remove the pcb to put the cardstock down anyway, so you might as well try it.

It mentions post #701. SPIN ERROR was from no contact on the PCB. When I had the same problem, I unscrewed the screws a tiny bit, then tightened it back down. Spin Error went away after that, and I was able to continue to the next step.

Try the loopback test to see if your adapter is still working correctly. I can't think of anything in particular that you can do to test whether the drive is still good...
