A few days ago i did a very basic vlite to remove extra drivers, tablet pc, media center and languages to install on an Aspire One netbook with a 160GB HD (box said 120 but hey :) )

It works extremely well, RAM usage is about double of the pre-installed XP, it's normally hovering just below 500MB. I can confirm that it's definately as quick as XP on the Atom processor, and now when I switch to XP (dualbooting them) it feels like I've booted into the stone age. Kind of like the feeling when you first got aquainted with XP after living with Win9x.

Anyway, I've had an error when it comes to activation. slui.exe fails due to SCARDDLG.dll is missing. unfortunately I've already deleted my .iso and the vlite settings, but I'm fairly certain I didn't remove anything else other than mentioned above.

Wether this information is useful or not to anyone I don't know - after all I may have removed something else and I've simply forgotten - but I thought it was worth mentioning in case it is.

So for now it's back to the default install, I didn't notice any performance differences between this and a regular install, i just tried it to free up a bit of space :)

with UAC disabled I can still use sidebar with this config. But make sure you do not re-enable UAC to full or else it won't run properly (explorer crashes, no control panel even if you are in admin group, etc)

if you DID happen to do so, just boot in safe mode and disable UAC again.

im having problem with DISM, I already using administrator account but elevated permission is still required, why is that?? and oh! by the way im using currently using windows 7, I just can't wait for it xD so ill gonna tinker it for my personal curiosity

Right click "Command Prompt" and run as administrator

then go ahead with DISM

Hey guys, today i tried the windows 7 beta build 7000 with vLite.

I had to disable unattended installation due to a CD-key issue, but after that it worked fine. Almost.

After the installation I got an error about a missing "wer.dll"

How could I solve this?

TWO THINGS:

First: I've noticed on pretty much all of the .ini files shared by people who've successfully installed vLited 7, that no services were deleted. Only disabled in the tweaks. Can we not remove any services for this OS?

Second: The fix that MS released to fix the MP3 corruption problems in Windows 7 makes changes to Media Center. Does the fix still install even with Media Center removed?

First problem: Vlited Windows 7 x64 and removed the objects you can see in the last ini file.

But after the installation my 750 GB HD is empty. (WDC WD7500AAKS-00RBA0 ATA Device)

And when i boot back to Vista its full and no problems what so ever.

Any thoughts about that problem?

It´s maybe Dynamic Volume Manager, gonna try without removing it.

Leaving Dynamic Volume Manager fixed the problem.

"Case closed" on that one.

Second problem: I can´t change the serial number because scarddlg.dll is missing.

Slui.exe is warning.

Mounted the original install.wim and copied scarddlg.dll to system32 and to SysWOW64.

Gonna try and reboot it now.

It worked fine. No errors and Windows 7 is now activated.

You have to have media center in order to install mp3 fix update.You only need that update if you play the mp3s using WMP12, otherwise you don't need it. ;)

OK so I was concerned about this too but I just installed the KB961367 fix from the MS website and it installed! I'm using Kazuni's .ini outlined in post #91, with Media Center removed. I was not expecting a successful install of this fix but you can compare your .ini file to that one. I even removed some services, but made sure to protect the files outlined in this thread.

EDIT: I should also mention that I installed the fix immediately after installing the OS and before actually setting up WMP and playing anything with it. I just tested it...no corruption issues.

You have to have media center in order to install mp3 fix update. You only need that update if you play the mp3s using WMP12, otherwise you don't need it. ;)

But it would be nice to have the fix, rather than have to make certain WMP12 doesn't get it's hands anywhere near your media. But hey, this is supposed to be a one month trial of the OS right? So who can't do without WMP12 for a month? :-)

Even with a successful install, I wish I could remove more. In time I'm sure things will develop.

Why i get error while installing the windows 7 after using vlite with this session above?

I don't know, but there is no error on install if you use the text from post #91 as your session. I added the protection from your .ini, did my own teaking and removed a couple more services. I also skipped user creation in the unattended portion. However it then made me bypass the manual input of the beta product key, which I didn't like. But everything is smooth and stable...so far.

Thanks for the compliment but I'm no expert. I believe that kazuni is though. He's posted extensively on this stuff in other forums. And incidently it was his .ini file that I copied in the first place. But here is mine. However it's not my original. It should show the services that I've removed, but I'm going to have to do service tweaks after install. Forgot to do them this time but the .ini file attached below will give you a configuration that will successfully install.

My concern about not being able to input my own BETA key on install is that I don't know what it gets replaced with. Maybe it's a Vista trial key, like vLite will do for unattended Vista configurations. Problems can only arise if and when authentication happens. The OS will not appear to be genuine. Seems trivial to me since it's a beta product and the keys are free, but hey, there is still a legal license agreement.

About your key;

I have installed Windows 7 and it seems that validation is taking place after three days automatically, or by hand when you activate the validation process yourself.

In the meantime there is nothing like a popup or whatever, so may be there is not even a trial key installed, but it will come up after that three days.

Do not know ofcourse how long your installation is already working.....

Just my thought, may be I completely missed it, but you never know...

hello, i have a problem with windows seven and vlite

i select to remove all drivers, media center and speech support, but when i install the windows the vga drivers continues.

is vlite 1.2 fully compatible with windows 7?

i also installed waik 2.0

vlite is not fully compatible with windows 7

u could remove same feathers and not have problems

about the vga drivers

i guess vlite cant find it nuhi need to update it so its will to find it
