Bad Adobe! Making things harder for Win98 :realmad:

The downside of this older version is that it's seriously vulnerable (remote system access):

As you can read in the last article, there is an older patched version 7 for Win95/NT.

What about Flash Player versions 9.0.45.0 or 9.0.47.0? Is there anyone using them? Are they OK for 9x/ME?

Myself, I'm still using v. 9.0.28.0, too, and confirm it works OK, but I cannot say anything on the newer versions. And what about the non-ActiveX versions? Please advise.

10/16/2008: I've updated my Flash Player to v. 9.0.47.0, last month, and I confirm it works OK (with IE6SP1).

I'm using 9.0.47.0 with SeaMonkey on 98FE. It works properly on those 2 links. 9.0.115.0 does not on either IE6 or SeaMonkey. Will be trying out the Internet Explorer version shortly.

Archived Flash Players available for testing purposes: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewConten...6&sliceId=1

The only problem is you have to download all flash player releases in one download. In case of the Flash Player 9 it gives 74.7 MB.

I try complet uninstall Flash (with special util Made in Adobe), clear registry.

In this pack version for FF, IE and other... Version for Firefox - OK, install with not problem.

Version for IE (flashplayer9r28_winax.exe, flashplayer9r45_winax.exe and other) normal install, restart computer, starting IE with support Flash - and activeX resolved install only new version 9.0.115.... :realmad: this archive instalation not offline and full...

Those browse buttons don't work on Opera 9.26 too.

You definitely should report this bug to Adobe and let us know about their response.

No success with 9.0.47.0_winax. Installer seems to work properly but flash doesn't work.

Yes - same problem - installer any version (9.0.28.0, 9.0.47.0) with "full" installer "Made in Adobe" - properly running, but in IE doesn´t work.... automatic (ActiveX) run installer stupid new version 9.0.115.0 :realmad:

Has anyone submitted bug to Adobe? According to system req's (http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/productinfo/systemreqs/#os), Windows 98/ME should still be supported.

Flash Player 9 should still be supported under Win98/ME. But you'll need Intel Pentium II 450MHz or faster processor with at least 128MB of RAM to use AFP 9. Install faster CPUs or install more RAM [or do both] if you don't have the right hardware.

We definitely need to send Adobe bug reports about AFP 9 builds 115 and 124 about the crashes.

Flashplayer9r47winax.exe from the archive collection can be made to work with IE6. This worked on my 98FE box. My 98SE box doesn't have IE installed so I can't try it there.

This assumes version 124 is installed. Filenames for version 124 contain "9f". If version 115 is installed, the filenames will contain "9e". Version 47, the last one that works properly contain 9d.

To make flashplayer9r47winax.exe work proceed as follows.

Files:

In C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MACROMED\Flash unregister "flash9f.ocx", then delete it.

Delete "FlashUtil9f.exe".

Delete "uninstall_activeX.exe". No need to run it.

Delete "install.log".

Registry:

Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Macromedia\FlashPlayerActiveX and all subkeys.

Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Macromedia\FlashPlayer and all subkeys.

Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\FlashPlayer and all subkeys.

Install flashplayer9r47winax.exe.

Register "flash9d.ocx"

Some time ago, I made 2 shortcuts in the "SendTo" folder for quick registering and unregistering of files.

To register add shortcut: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE

To unregister, add shortcut C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE /u

Makes it fast and easy.
