snaithg Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Can anyone recommend a good AV/Security package for W2K8 (preferably free!!!)Graham.
aviv00 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 i use the old nod 2.7 all fine too [on 64bit]
snaithg Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) You should go for AVG Free. Thanks Neo, this is the first one that I tried. It refused to install saying that the platform was unsupported .I have however managed to force AVG Enterprise (Beta) to install (even though a message came up again saying Server 2008 was not supported). I had big problems configuring it to allow the network connectivity that I need. In the end I had to totally disable the firewall and "Web Shield". When I have more time, I will try again to re-enable these components.I haven't seen any virus signatures etc being updated as yet. don't know whether this is a feature of the "beta" version or because its an unsupported platform.Graham. solema Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 (edited) You can also (removed) search for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11. It works on and was designed to support WS2008. I'm running it right now on 2k8 x64. Edited February 29, 2008 by xper

dexter.inside Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Trend Micro OfficeScan 8.0, both Client and Server editions. Running very happily since Beta 3.
IcemanND Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 1. This is not a warez site! Links/Requests to warez and/or illegal material (porn, cracks, serials, etc..) will not be tolerated. Discussion of circumventing WGA/activation/timebombs/keygens or any other illegal activity will also not be tolerated. You will be banned without notice.
solema Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Iceman, was I in violation of the rules suggesting SEP? I didn't provide any links or anything, but I wasn't sure. If so, I will refrain from suggestions like those from now on.
cluberti Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Iceman, was I in violation of the rules suggesting torrenting SEP? I didn't provide any links or anything, but I wasn't sure. If so, I will refrain from suggestions like those from now on.Yes - torrenting isn't bad per-se like any P2P package, but the product is a commercial one and is non-free. Therefore, get it from the vendor and do not use alternate means (like file-sharing), as this almost always means an illegal copy (not always, but most of the time). Therefore, we consider using torrents to get commercial packages warez, yes. Do not do it again.
solema Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I understand. It's too bad you can't buy Symantec's corporate stuff in individual licenses, because SEP is very nice, and I like it a lot better than Norton. And yes, I'm using it legitimately.
DonDamm Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 NOD32 AV Business Edition works very nicely on Server 2008. So, does Online Armor Pro as a firewall. Both are top notch in their class.

rebelo Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 McAfee Enterprise 8.5i runs smoothly. I think it's lighter than Symantec Corporate.
