clidx
my 17" has it's fair amount of dead pixels, some clumped up into the top right corner, you can't see anything there now, and there are about 5 around the rest of the screen (i'm typing on it now and it hurts the eyes!)i'm looking for a good 22", preferably with composite inputs for my PS2. not needed but would be nice. preferred native resolution is 1650x1050; i don't want a new graphics card to get playable fps at a native resolution of 1920x1080 or something...http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...;searchsource=0http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130925http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125099are the ones i've been looking at.But i'd rather stay away from the last one in case i get a C panel... not my money's worth! it's less of a risk getting a lower grade panel on the SM2232BW, so i've read.budget is £200-£250. thanks for any suggestions! puntoMX
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128411, that’s really good for it’s price! Also the Philips screens are the same as LG, but personally like the design from Philips better. Other then that, the Pebble Samsung line is good with a smooth design and the stand isn’t that dull and ugly as the other screens in the market.…preferably with composite inputs for my PS2. not needed but would be nice…There are good external solutions for that with build in TV tuner (1440*900). PC_LOAD_LETTER
I have this one and couldnt be happier with ithttp://www.gateway.com/accessories/product...000R.php?seg=hmthey also have a 22" version but its not on their UK sitehttp://uk.gateway.com/products/catalog.html?category=monitorbut this place has ithttp://direct.tesco.com/q/N.1998895/Nr.99.aspxthe 22" has 1 set of component in and the 24" has 2 component insthe 22" is native @ 1680 x 1050 and the 24 is native @ 1920 x 1200 (which is awesome BTW)the 24" can rotate 90 degrees too (dunno if the 22" will) but i read comic books on mine rotated 90 and its awesomeP.S. i know zilch about stores in the UK so i just used the ones gateway linked to

clidx
the hyundai looks good but 2 of the reviews don't, with that it seems you get your money's worth unfortunately the 22" gateway has no composite inputs, component doesn't look good on the PS2. also the price for the 24" looks ok, but a bit out of my budget and i don't want a new graphics card to get playable fps at that monitor's native resolution! and tesco's service for electronics have never been good for me, their returns is a nightmare (they're a supermarket who don't know a thing about electronical faults..)re-readiing the samsung website shows that http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130925 has composite inputs! and the price is cheaper than most, except the hyundai and the 226BW which is a gamble I'm not willing to take. for a £9 on 226BW vs 2232BW i'm almost guaranteed to get a good panel!i think that's the one i'll go for.. unless anyone else has other options?thanks.btw, punto, remember i asked you about a good composite method, and the best solution we came up with was native inputs on the monitor (I think). so vga boxes and tv tuner cards aren't in the question for my PS2. puntoMX
re-readiing the samsung website shows that http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130925 has composite inputs! No it doesn’t have the inputs you need/want, it only has the DVI and VGA connector.btw, punto, remember i asked you about a good composite method, and the best solution we came up with was native inputs on the monitor (I think). so vga boxes and tv tuner cards aren't in the question for my PS2.No, it was a Kworld TV tuner box, external. But I don’t know if you liked it .
clidx
ebuyer says dvi and vga only but the samsung website ( http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/...&fullspec=F ) saysSync. SignalType of sync that a monitor can support. Sync is seperated in both Horizontal and Vertical. Separate H/V, Composite,SOGVideo SignalVideo SignalInput signal that Monitor can get from devices such as PC, Audio, AV devices Analog RGB, DVI D-sub, DVI-Dmy mistake, i remember, i couldn't find the kworld 1680ex, or the 1440 for that matter. unless google product search is useless.(if i find a good tuner/vga box i won't have need for native composite inputs) Edited January 7, 2008 by clidx
puntoMX
ebuyer says dvi and vga only but the samsung website ( http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/...&fullspec=F ) says...I think you get it wrong, it’s just VGA and DVI. I would hate it if you buy the screen and came to the conclusion when unpacking it that it doesn’t have the connection you want. Other then that, it’s a perfect screen. Nice design and the technology is what you expect from Samsung.
jcarle
There are only TWO types of connections on the Samsung 2232BW, D-sub and DVI-D! The other specifications are for the SIGNAL not the connections, as puntoMX has repeated several times.
ideas
so what about Hanns·G HW-223DPB Black 22"
clidx
@jcarle, ok i see my mistake, but the data on samsung site is confusing for an uneducated one (such as yours truly). accepting a signal, but with no physical ports to accomodate it?btw, i guess it would be possible to get a composite signal over the dvi or vga (preferably vga, no need to switch cables) port? wouldn't that mean all i need is a simple composite to dvi/vga adapter as there's no signal conversion needed? that's logical at least.the trouble with the HW-223DPB is that there's no professional reviews from it, and how it compares to other monitors. but it's **** cheap, so i'm not taking the risk. samsung's are overpriced in comparison but i want a good monitor.EDIT are they right, or did CNet make the same mistake i did?http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/samsu...7-32631891.htmlConnections - RGB, - DVI, - D-Sub, - DVI-Digital, - Composite video inputisn't it also funny that they include a VGA cable but there's no vga port... (according to cnet again) Edited January 8, 2008 by clidx
Zxian
A "VGA" cable is a D-Sub cable. D-Sub refers to any plug that you see with the socket-and-pin type connector (VGA, serial, parallel, etc).
clidx
thanks for the info about d-sub and vga, guess that clears that up.if there are no other takers, in maybe a week or so i will be ordering the 2232BW. it doesn't have composite inputs, unless Cnet is more trustworthy than samsung's site, and though it would be a nice feature, i don't NEED it.
