derhans
hi all,i try to slim down win2008 std. serverusing vlite v1.2bfor now i reached this one (gives me an 716mb iso) with areo theme working:but, there are about 19 hidden components.how can I get access to them?the command 'extreme' like this:"D:\Tools\vLite\vlite.exe" -extremei try'd it via shortcut and cmd.will not change anything.cualice Edited June 13, 2008 by derhans
Innocent Devil
@derhansthe hidden componets might due to compatibility issues (if u click halo2 in compatibility tab, secondary logon goes hidden and so on for other components, chek them individually)@shahed26its not bcoz of file access issue, but how to locate the stuff in the wimdo u know were the "Windows-IIS-Webserver-Addon2-Package" files reside in the wim ?(der r more of that sort of componets)ofcoz once u know the files and its location it dey can be removed with or without unlocker(am too a core user of unlocker)@aviv00found a clue:the just above Packages in the software hive is PackageDetecti think this determines the package dependenciesits subkey Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~0.0.0.0has all the package dependenciesmay be removing the package name from der allows removing of the packages.most of them have a value 3 and few of them have value 4 (REG_DWORD)i didn't got enough time to verify this.plz check it. Kralik
This is an excellent resource -- thanks for taking the time to research this and put it together. I got Server 2008 down to a ~400MB ISO and ~1GB install with WAIK and vLite, and I'm able to use Desktop Experience (I only preserved Windows Photo Gallery as it's needed for Picasa) and Wireless LAN support. Also kept .NET.

kr0nx
Thank you so much aviv00 ! 716 MB of server 2008 set up & it took only 2.5 gb of hdd space (without paging file and hibernate).I was surprised to see performance improvement...it took only 7 mins to install SQL 2005 Developer Edition. On vista and xp it takes approx 15 - 20 mins Special thanks to nuhi for nLite and vLite

aviv00
i think saving "help" and winsxs is enuf for saving the add/remove feathertry run on vmware or any other app for that and test it im not surebut why do that while u have waik to pre install what u likeu could then make iso much less and the install size much smallercos then u delete the backups files = like 500mb [ just by pre install it]and the backup files to feathers = like 300mb or even more to install size [ with winsxs removal using vlite ]its the best waybut 2.5giga is not small enuf for u ? why?Thank you so much aviv00 ! 716 MB of server 2008 set up & it took only 2.5 gb of hdd space (without paging file and hibernate).I was surprised to see performance improvement...it took only 7 mins to install SQL 2005 Developer Edition.
