gsharad007 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 (edited) i think i made the installed disc space to 4.3 gb from 4.6 gb which is actually too much work for too little gain. also make me wonder what else is present in server2008 coz vlited vista sp1 (preintegrated) takes about ~2gb space. (both 64 bit)as in server 2003 adding removing roles didn't require the original disc meaning all the files were present on the disc i think the same thing is there in 2008 so i was wondering if/how i can remove all the stuff from the hdd which i might never use. all those server stuff. i was thinking maybe waik did that but if i am gaining only 300 mb after removing just about everything it probably isn't cleaning it all up.something worth looking into.also on a side note 2008 running in VM ( 1gb ram ) on my xp machine was more responsive than my xp (nlited very lite). :-P. i understand i was running a lot of stuff on xp then but still compared to vista running in that same VM it was multitudes faster. gsharad007 Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 check that link:http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=242891more info about ws2008 http://www.imagebam.com/image/9786675364575had already seen those links and many more thats why i tried 2008 in the first place and now that i have tried it and viva-la-difference.well my company would probably move to 2008 as client systems from the current xp sometime in the near future. i know there is a large cost difference but if it helps productivity the cost can be overcome.a lot of people would be trying 2008 especially since their trial lets you run for 240 days.also 2008 disc size is just ~2gb compared to vista ~4.3 gb and still it takes twice as much disc space (plain 2008 install takes 12 gb) once installed. which only means there are a lot of duplicate files, not installed stuff resides on the hard drives.also i just tried to install .NET 3 on a plain vlited install and it didn't install is this what means breaking the add role/feature. earlier i thought the utility crashed and didn't show up the feature list.

aviv00 Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) its might be the same so when its vista the system double checking everything and make it slowerelse should be the DRM systemthat make vista slower Edited May 5, 2008 by aviv00
gsharad007 Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 its might be the same so when its vista the system double checking everything and make it slowerelse should be the DRM systemthat make vista slowerthe benchmarks reveal that disc and memory/cache access is much slower in vista which might mean vista is writing/reading from the disc a lot more in the background. could be indexing could be superfetch could be anything. might be worth it if someone took a bare bone vista and compared it to barebone 2008. then the real numbers would be apparent.
RamGuy Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 So any update on when we will see a component removal that supports Server 2008?What can I actually remove, without breaking the add feature option?I know I can remove languages and drivers, is that it?Are lots of stuff I want to get rid of
