Core 3 Duo?

When is the Wolfdale supposed to be released? And what type of socket will this little monster require?

Haven't found much news. All I found is that its supposed to be out in Q4 2007, but that's it.

And will this require a new chipset too?

Mobos with the P35 and G33 are ready for those P1266 45nm process CPUs, FSB on 1333MHz and also supports DDR3. And those mobos will have a new voltage regulator as well...

Core3Duo must be a typo , or I missed something ?

This seemed like the most logical name for it.

Core Duo -> Core 2 Duo -> Core 3 Duo.

It is, but as you know, iNTEL still is using the Pentium name as well (2xxx series CPUs). For sure they will use Core2Duo for more time... Look at the Quad Core for example...

i cant imagin them keeping teh Core X Duo name forever tho... that will just get of stupid in my opinion

ANd it´s not that stupid, why change a name that is known by the people? Marketing, just think about it .

ya its all marketing, i personally like the core names, it takes me a while to start talking about them as their marketing name.

for ex, the barcelona has been talked about for 100 years now, when it finally comes out, its marketing name will not be barcelona... instead it will be something stupid.

I think you're confused as to what the "2" represents in Core 2 Duo. "2" in that case represents the second iteration of the Core family. "Duo" denotes the number of cores. That's why the quad core's are called Core 2 Quad.

So, given Intel's past history in naming products it would stand to reason that the next iteration of the Core family would be Core 3 Duo and/or Core 3 Quad (who knows what the 8 core versions will be called).

However, I don't see them going from Core 2 to Core 3 just for a die shrink and some new instructions. The underlying architecture will still be largely the same. Take for instance the Pentium 4. There are many, many different versions of the Pentium 4, each one building upon the previous.

At this time, there are no plans to rename the Intel processor lineup.
