  1. and if that doesn't work, try removing Everyone entry in your folder's Security tab. To access the Security tab of a folder or drive, disable Simple File Sharing (Professional) or boot to Safe Mode (Home Edition and Professional)
  2. Microsoft has this to say (based on Windows XP SP1)
  3. System specs Dell Dimension XPS D266, a PII 266 with 256MB RAM, the original nVIDIA RIVA 128 4MB AGP display card and a clean install using Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade.
  4. To remove Client Services for Netware, try open your network connection Properties, select the said component and click Uninstall
  5. In that case, allow me to elaborate: no problem with scrolling. I'm using the latest Zune theme from Microsoft.
  6. I have no problem running IE7 on my PII266
  7. Don't know if this is already too late, but there is a tool that allows WFP to be enabled/disabled (preferrably in Safe Mode) TechConnect Magazine Windows File Protection Switcher 1.0
  8. In addition to the above, this could be caused by .NET Framework 1.1 (especially if you installed Dell Media Experience, DMX, which requires it) - there is a bug which treats ASP.NET as a user even when not visible on the Welcome screen. This is fixed by version 1.1 SP1 or by installing TweakUI and disable ASP.NET account from being shown in the Logon section.
  9. Not sure if this is an OL or OE problem. There is a lot of details so please bear with me. I'm using an OL 2003 SP2 client (upgraded from OL 2002) with all security patches installed. Email is received and sent through my ISP POP3 and SMTP servers. Using HTML format email but not using Word as an email editor. Lately, even before August patch Tuesday, many of my email recipients using OE are complaining that I have not attached any files to my HTML format correspondences. In fact, when my email arrives the email size is the same as if there is an attachment (e.g., if I include an 1MB file, the email arrives showing 1MB in size and if they save the email to the hard drive as a file, it shows 1MB in size). I have been trying to duplicate the problem on my computers without success. I've tried sending test email with attachments to my other OL and OE clients, to Hotmail then retrieve it using OE - attachments visible. I also tried reading the email via the web interface on Hotmail and Gmail - both showed there was an attachment correctly. It wasn't until I helped reinstall my sister's computer last weekend that I managed to duplicate this issue using her OE (all patches installed), so here's what I've found: HTML format: no attachment visible (email size = with attachment) Rich Text: no attachment visible (email size = with attachment) Plain Text: attachment visible! When I receive the same test email using my own OE, attachment is visible with all email formats. Furthermore, a friend uses a free webmail service with IMAP access, and when he checks email online as webmail, my attachment is shown as a winmail.dat attachment, but not when he sends a test email to the same address using his own OL 2003 client! I setup an account with the same webmail service but the test email attachment is shown correctly. It looks like my OL is at fault, but why is it that my OE clients (on other computers) and webmail account are not exhibiting the same problem? My temporary solution is to switch to Plain Text format when composing, but I don't want to do this in the long run. Where do I go from here to troubleshoot this? Thanks. Thank you for taking your time in reading.
  10. You mean something similar to what this guy is experiencing?
  11. Yes, Office XP and OL 2002 will run in Windows XP Home Edition as well as in Professional. Run the Mail icon in Control Panel, then click on the Data Files button, do you see a file called Outlook.pst as the default Personal Folders?
  12. Try disable a particular update by hiding it on Windows Update or Microsoft Update website - of course you'll need to run an online check to see the update.
  13. Have you tried resizing the new window and close it?
  14. Why not create your signatures directly in OL?
  15. In addition, there are also OEM versions without the mods - those that are bundled with desktops and notebooks from small system builders. (Yes, there are notebooks that are assembled/built to order and sold by small system builders) Both Home Edition and Professional (OEM, Retail, VLK, etc.) have the ability to delete, create, and format partitions in FAT32 and NTFS file format during setup.
  16. Ahh.... forgot to mention you can configure OL to only check email with one account (personal) and not the other (Rotary). (For OL 2003) Tools > Send/Receive > Send/Receive Settings > Define Send/Receive Groups Highlight the group (there should be only one by default), click Edit Select on the left the icon/account you don't want OL to check, and uncheck "Include the selected account in this group" For OL 2002 the procedure is the same but the menu layout under Tools is different. There may be another solution but you will need to experiment. Is there anything special about the header of the messages you receive through the Rotary server? You can also create a message rule that will move these email to a specific folder (I'll let you work out how to format the rule, but I'm sure "move email received from one account" won't work). Once OL has been setup to do that, try a plugin called RealAccount to see if it can assign account to your Rotary replies automatically (I haven't tried it).
  17. Can you retrieve your email directly from that server by creating a 2nd email account setup in OL? That way any email retrieved from that server will contain the Rotary email address by default when you reply. Failing that, you can create a 2nd email account in OL with the same email settings as your personal email account but using your Rotary email address. When you compose your reply, you can also choose which account to use to send the email. A quick alternative without creating a new account setup is simply to type in your Rotary email address in the From field when composing a new email or reply. This also works with all previous versions of OL and Windows Messenging, except OL2000 (IMO). The From field is not shown by default, but you can make it visible by going to VIEW > (tick) FROM FIELD on any new message window. There is a drawback to this. Anyone recipient using OL (not OE) and Windows Messenging client will see two email addresses in the From field in the form of: Your name [personal email address] on behalf of [Rotary email address] Their replies will be addressed to the Rotary address Hope this helps.
  18. English version (both Home Edition and Professional) has built-in support for Chinese/Japanese/Korean, including IME, without having to change operating system or GUI. Have you enabled East Asian Languages support? MUI only supports English Windows XP Professional so you have no option but to reinstall using a Chinese version of Windows XP if you indeed want a language change.
  19. Tools > Rules and Alerts You can manage incoming messages and where to place them using Rules. Not sure you can disable notification individually.
  20. I haven't tried it, but give RealAccount plugin a try
  21. You can also use a tool: Empty Temp Folders It's written for Windows 2000, but I have been using it on Windows XP since the beginning without problems.
  22. Reinstall only when my Windows dies
