  1. I do know that your script will always generate an error if there is no username given. You need to make it so if no username is given, then it doesn't attempt to connect to the share that requires it. You can set up audit rules for both the client and the server. Have it audit failed logon attempts. Of course you can only do this if you have access to the Group Policy Object Editor, which only is in Vista Ultimate and Business, but should be in 2003 or any other OS you might have on the server.
  2. I have also seen this problem in Vista in another configuration. Any computer with 2 Lite-On dvd burners in it... Although, sometimes it does work.
  3. I use Yahoo mail since 1997. I have unlimited space and the spam filter is great. It also has a virus scan in it. I never bit on Gmail, It doesn't offer anything i don't already have.
  4. Why do You have two different default gateways.... Are you using a router?
  5. And to help you out, this message you are getting simply means that the computer has lost it's IP address, or it can't see the router or the network cable.
  6. If you have the ability to view an offline NTFS disk, you might try enabling boot-logging.
  7. This may be something that needs to be done after the reboot or after the image is loaded. You will have write access to the drive after the image is deployed, so you can batch something together that way. The only real method I know is to use a management program, such as Altiris, which you pre-qualify the device (computer) and it labels it properly. The other option is to insert the Asset Tag into the DMI in the BIOS, which can then be read by Windows in System Information. Your logon scripts can take that number and do whatever is needed with it, such as renaming the computer. I wouldn't recommend that your users have a direct input into your inventory system.
  8. Make sure to use the 32bit Devcon if it exists! Regular Devcon won't work in WinPE 2.1. It will say it can't find the file because its a 16bit app!
  9. Have you already tested it in the WinPE 2.0? Its not exactly Vista, so it might work just fine.
  10. Using an unattend, you can specify whether or not to format the drive, so yes.
  11. What we do for XP is an unattended install, then during the GUI Mode Setup, we map a drive and execute a batch file on the server that installs our updates that way.
  12. Check this out too: http://www.msfn.org/board/WinPE-20-GimageX-based-t97512.html
  13. If it crashes again, hopefully it can give you a different error.
  14. Your computer has requested an IP address from the DHCP server. Your computer is telling you that you did not get a valid response (but a response was sent). This can be caused by various reasons. - The container object (aka the Computer as it has been registered in AD) is corrupted. You can delete this object (in Active Directory users and computers) and wait 5 minutes and try again. - there is an IP reservation for the client's computer name and the IP is already in use. Check for IP reservations in the DHCP cpl. Also you can delete the lease for that computer if you find it. There is also another issue. I originally couldn't get DHCP and PXE working on the same computer. If you see the guide in my signature, I had used two computers to handle the PXE boot process because I was not able to solve the PXE-E55 error when using 1 server. Since then, with no cfg changes being made, the computer I used for DHCP had died and I merely changed my WDS Server to be authorized to use DHCP and it magically worked, so I don't know. Anyways, here's this also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257579
  15. Oh ah, i've seen this before... I want to say its caused by an Office Component... Well, searching for for the XP search doesn't work on MS site made this happen: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=gp;en-us;kbdown
  16. Our MS rep said all future OS will be 64bit only. But they are just spokesmen really, MS might change their mind and not even tell those guys until it comes out.
  17. Yes, unfortunately its really hard to troubleshoot this kind of thing because it could virtually be anything. When the computer locks up, when you press the power button (just once) does it start shutting down by itself? Can it go to sleep, like if its a notebook you can close it or if you have one of those keyboards with the moon button on it... OH, how much free hard drive space do you have?
  18. Neither of the two messages you reported should cause your computer to lock up. I doubt that either are the issue. Where your event says "<PC NAME>" is this computer on your LAN? Worst case would be that you wouldn't be able to access the network or internet, not lock up the computer. Is there a server on your LAN?
  19. 1219 is a credentials error. Make sure you are using the correct password. Also make sure you aren't logging onto the same server with two different credential sets. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/98724
  20. Won't changing that now change his HAL? Would sysprep need to be run or will Vista survive chaning the HAL?
  21. There are a lot of recent things on TV and radio saying you can save your gas mileage by driving below 40 and staying off the highways. I was always confused about science until i learned about money. To think about how fast we've gotten our processors in our computers in the past 20 years! Think of this one! My first car I got used in 1998. It was a 12 year old car called the 1986 Subaru. It had no name. It was a 2WD/4WD (switching) station wagon. It got 32MPG highway. I know it got this because at some point during my short owning tenure, the gas gauge broke and I had to keep track and determine how many miles I needed to drive before I would run out of gas. In 2001, I bought a BRAND NEW car, a Hyundai sedan. It only gets 29MPG highway. Is this a step backwards? Don't you think they can make cars get better gas mileage by now? Well, yes they can, they do but you can't buy one. My college professor told me a story he had when he was buying a car in 1978. I forget the exact name (he told me this story like 8 years ago) of the car, but it was one of those larger models like a Lincoln or Cadillac. He had bought the car at the dealer, but they had to order him one and said to pick it up in a couple of days. He came back later and he got the car from them and drove it home. He said that it felt different for him driving it and when he got it home he opened up the hood to take a look around. Inside he said instead of the normal air filter (you older guys remember those big air filters right lol) he had seen on cars before, this one had one that was very large and thin. He didn't really think about it but noticed other parts in the engine that looked strange to him. He soon realised that the car got very good gas mileage. I can't remember how much he said that model originally got, but it was between 8 and 16mpg. He did some testing and determined that the car got 80MPG! He received a phone call about a week after getting it and the dealer said that they had given him the wrong car. They said his car was supposed to go to someone else and they got his real car in. He brought the car back and switched it out. His replacement car was different and did not get the same good gas mileage. He also said that the engine looked like normal engines do. He used this story (for us in class) to explain why some parts of computers (err mainframes) were more advanced than others, secretly complaining about money slowing down technology. He had previously been an engineer for Lockheed before becoming a college professor. Those HHO coolant systems look pretty cool, but I just don't understand how using HHO instead of standard air is so much better for the car.
  22. Yes I notice you staff types always get your names in there like XPer and Cluberti but other people it doesn't show it.
  23. There are plenty of forums like this. It happens because many threads (especially old ones) are brought up in google searches. If you don't want threads to be bumped, admins can do this: create archive sub-forum. Mark as read-only for member mask (all options available for staff) then move threads with no replies in say 6 months in there automatically. IPB has this automatic ability built-in, or at least it did. But really, does it matter that much? You just have to pay attention to what you are doing. Sometimes I forget to look do but its no big deal.
  24. Thanks, but you pointed all this before. You know,a couple of months ago,I was able to click on My Assistant, and I did'nt get this error thing!Something happened to screw this up,and I'm convinced someone has a simple fix for this! Let us say, for example, that this site uses a code feature that wasn't adopted into the standard at the time your browser came out. THis can cause this type of behaviour. You should be able to find old versions of browsers, like Firefox or Opera, and try using the site with those and see if it works properly for you. Also, if you have the "error on page" thing down there, you can double-click on it and it will tell you where the error is. Another reason to get this when the website is perfectly fine and the browser is working properly is that the entirety of the page code is acquired during the GET action, which can cause this. Or, for example, IE is using an outdated locally cached include file (like a JD or CSS or anything) and the one on the website has been revised. if these two files (the new website files and the cached files) do not match up (such as making calls to elements that have been renamed, removed or added) you will get this message as well. EDIT: there is no simple fix. Recommended steps: 1. Clear temporary internet files (with ie closed). 2. Clear history 3. Clear cookies 4. Reboot (to remove possible session data) 5. go back to the page 6. Post your error (if it comes back) to this thread. But all in all, this isn't a site issue as much as a software problem imo.
