  1. It may be explorer crashing. Have you checked to see if there is any errors or warnings in Event Viewer?
  2. That website doesn't show me anything. I was wondering if a site like that existed tho. It does not look right on IE 8 Beta 2 (2003), Firefox 3.5 (XP) or Firefox 3.0.10 (2003). See that screenshot I added in my first post to see what it looks like in IE6. I'll try that later! Thanks!
  3. Some malware create hidden blocking keys in the registry that stop programs from opening. Scan for rootkits if you can. This is especially a concern if the programs that can't open are utility programs, but not things like games or productivity software, or things like Calc or Solitaire.
  4. Welcome to the MSFN!
  5. I wanted to revisit an old website design I once made a while back. It was before IE7 came out. I made it in compliance with CSS and also XHTML for certain things. I have CSS v1.0 validation and would have XHTML if I didn't use the shortcuts I have. Anyways, the page displays correctly in IE6 but not Firefox (at that time it was Beta version). It does not display correctly in IE7 or IE8, or any Release version of Firefox. Any idea why not? If you do not have both browsers to test in, here is what it is supposed to look like: 1. main layout and copyright should be centered under the main layout. 2. the menu on the right should be in the box on the right Oh, if you look at it, don't bother cliking any of the links. They will not work. http://tripredacus.net/test/tpx7x/index.php This is how it looks in IE6 if you don't happen to have it. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k63/Trip...ns/tpx7xie6.jpg
  6. Memtest stopped? The longest I ran memtest for was 3 weeks! ok ok, so I didn't do it on purpose. Someone turned the monitor off and I forgot about it until I needed to move that PC to make space for others.
  7. Verify that you have all updates for .NET Framework, all versions. I seem to recall getting these types of errors before I removed CCC and just went with the driver only package. I'm not sure about your first error, but the second one with "Could not find Type [ATI.ACE.CLI.Component.Wizard.Wizard]" is a library error. Either portions of your CCC program are not all the same version or it a linkage is broken. That link is typically the .NET Framework. I know newer versions of CCC require .NET 3.5 but if you'll need .NET 3.5 SP1 because there are bugs in the first version.
  8. The HP recovery discs are not designed to install onto hardware that is different than what came with the computer. There are different versions of the recovery software. Perhaps you are the one that looks for the data string installed into the hard drive and it won't install for you?
  9. Well look at the "First Mobile Phones" section. Look for footnote 42. One thing about Wikipedia, they always want to cite everything.
  10. You can do this with WinPE 2+ http://www.msfn.org/board/wds-winpe-and-ha...ta-t115243.html http://www.msfn.org/board/6-t101383.html
  11. I've never gotten a BSOD on my XP computer. @JustinStacey.x: You know you're flame-baiting as well as I do. And I don't like it at all. @all: Don't let yourselves be drawn into yet another OS war. We've already had enough of that! Indeed. Who really cares what OS someone uses? We can all brag about what we can do with our computers, such as: - 3 month average uptime on my Win 98a pc - never BSOD or reformatted my XP since 2002. But who cares really? What is important is that we all use the same stuff. If someone has better success at something that me, that's my cue to find out what that is. Because I am mostly interested in making things better and more efficient. I couldn't care if you use 98, ME or OS/2 3.0. I've never understood the "wars" because nothing can ever come from it. It is fine for a technical discussion, especially considering what some talented people have been able to do with old OSes. Remember, you use what you use because of whatever reason you have. Maybe you don't have a lot of money, maybe you play around with it because you happen to have another computer, or maybe you use it because you don't run anything that requires an upgrade. Those are all fine answers. This topic is to say why you still use 9x. It isn't "why do you use 9x, or if you don't we get to tell you why you are stupid". I still use 9x for things that work better in 98 than in other OSes. That doesn't mean I don't use other OSes. That is something to keep in mind. Many people who still have Windows 9x systems also run other stuff too.
  12. I have some questions... 1. Can the server access any network shares? Can the clients? 2. What roles does the server have? 3. Can the server access the internet? 4. What is your network topology?
  13. Can you post the error you get exactly? Also check the Event Viewer, it may provide additional information.
  14. If you are not familiar with programming, or just starting out, you may want to look into AutoIT. I have found it is, by far, the most versatile and easiest to learn, scripting engine. You can create programs with it that can run on computers that do not have AutoIT installed. There are other alternatives, such as KiX but it is limited in function, or WSH (Windows Scripting) which isn't quite as easy.
  15. I am not aware of such a thing, but it seems to me that you would be better off using a backup program that offers a Differential Backup option. Differential backups only save files that are different, be it filename, file size or modified date from the files it has already backed up.
  16. Project Pitchfork - Existence I always thought this would be an awesome song for an Hyundai commercial.
  17. You need to register the DLL in the 7.1 version. V9.0 and 9.1 never fully passed development stage and should be considered alpha or beta versions. I have never gotten 9.x to work properly and still use a 7.1. Make sure your PE is using the HTA, Scripting and XML packages at the minimum. Also this works with WinPE 2.x x86, I have not seen or tested it in WinPE 2.x x64, or either build of WinPE 3.0.
  18. Hi Tripredacus, Thank you for the reply. However that will not serve what I'm looking for. Nevertheless, really appreciate your reply. I mentioned it because it has been brought up at multiple companies for an intranet training solution. All the early demos for it (when it was still run by Macromedia) and tutorials were all geared towards using it for training purposes. I know the Wikipedia article makes me think it is for other sort of web development, so may Adobe changed the focus for that product.
  19. Replaying Strife. Wish there was a graphics mod for it tho. update: Civilization III. Found the CD in my basement and realised I never played it yet. I have a bunch of games like that.
  20. Indeed, but honestly, your ripping program should be automatically tagging your files for you so you don't have to go this extra step.
  21. Haven't had the time to back to this project yet, sorry.
  22. Where do these DVDs come from?
  23. Presuming that a USB drive connected to the computer would always be drive d: ... Write a program that would be your shell app... generic code example if exist d:\music then custom.exe else normal.exe endif
  24. There are very few ways to fix this: 1. Change to manual resource allocation in the BIOS if you have this option. 2. If the device is a hardware card, try it in another slot. What resource is it missing exactly? If it is a Memory resource, upgrading your RAM may help. Not sure about I/O ranges. Hardware IRQs you can't help, virtual ones you might be able to, but I haven't had this problem since Windows 98...
