Error after sysprep, during reboot
Tripredacus replied to Tripredacus's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
I'll keep that info in mind, but as noted above, I can't recreate the issue using a duplicate system. Its only with the one system, but I am wondering if sysprep is doing additional steps when the image is being put onto a "different" hardware. -
Error after sysprep, during reboot
Tripredacus replied to Tripredacus's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
I have tested out this config with another 7 image that uses the same driver as the custom one. It does not occur in this way. So either it is caused by a problem during deployment or the client changed something to cause this. I even tested using the answer file and had no errors. I was led on a lead that it is a problem with the BCD but we write the BCD during deployment and have no problems with other images. -

Xper fixed a problem with the front end, let us know if you still show up as someone else. Yes, we are on theplanet, that is normal. There have also been some server problems that Xper working on yesterday. I sometimes cannot get to MSFN last week but that issue was not with the forum but something else along the way to theplanet. -
detect CD/DVD writer unattended
Tripredacus replied to derniwi's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
I'm not sure how you can tell in Win7. Mine is just installed as a generic CD-ROM, but it still burns properly. No device info could say that specifically, so using HwID might be your only option. However there may be some info in WMI, you'd have to check msinfo32 to see if there is anything in there to say its a burner. If this is not for Windows 7, let me know, I'll move the topic. -
Do you at least get a mouse cursor? If you do, you can get access to the system again by pressing WindowsKey+U to bring up the Accessibility panel. With those limited options, you should be able to find a browse button which should allow you to open notepad, if not explorer.

help offlineservicing error

I bet the reason I don't have it in mine is because of policy restrictions, ie my company probably not allowed to disable that. -
I've noticed that since yesterday, my screensaver hasn't turned on like it used to. Its set for Mystify and to turn on after 7 minutes of inactivity. I know exactly what was done since it worked and didn't: - installed dosbox - installed Warcraft II in dosbox (it doesn't work anyways) Since then, it does not come on. If I do the preview button on the Screen Saver window, it does come on, so I know its not a problem with that. Obviously there is something stopping it from running. I checked my processes and they appear normal, and my av is running fine and has not found anything. Any ideas how I can see what's keeping it from turning on? Oh uh Windows 7 Professional x86

Raid Driver Woes on Tyan S5351 MB
Tripredacus replied to n3tg33k's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Just to make sure I understand you: You created a RAID1, installed Windows on it, and in Windows you see 2 separate drives? BTW, the F6 driver does not have anything to do with how Windows sees the drives. For example, if you have a RAID1, you can't write a driver to make Windows ignore the mirror and think the drives are JBOD. The F6 driver just allows Windows to see the devices on that specific Mass Storage Controller. I'd reload it as a RAID1, and once in Windows install the Adaptec RAID program and see if the array is still healthy. There are some circumstances where a software mirror will break for no apparent reason. I've seen it happen on reboots! -
I wanted to follow up that I do not get to experiment like a lot of you guys can. I need to make sure everything is current in order to obtain support for any problems I encounter. I could do things like this (like changing the boot rom) on my dev server but I wouldn't ever get the time to do it!

help offlineservicing error

Does your file validate in WSIM? I cannot find any documentation for the component "Microsoft-Windows-LUA-Settings" that you are using. I understand that you are using it to disable UAC. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Search/en-US?query=%22Microsoft-Windows-LUA-Settings%22&ac=3 -
Oh I've found a dandy error in which there is NO answer from The Google! Well there is 1 result but a case of "posting in the wrong place" so no answer that way. I've sent along an email to MS about it, but I'll post it here in case anyone has any idea or it helps them as well. As per usual, I cannot post all details, suffice it to say, here are the errors: 1. During boot after sysprep, during the "Setup is starting services" phase, I get: 2. So I go reboot into WinPE and read the log in Panther. It tells me this: Basically, I deployed Win7 on a PC to Audit Mode. I installed a program (Intel Matrix Storage Manager/IATA89ENU.EXE) and run sysprep /oobe /reboot. I create a user, password, name the PC all that fun stuff. Then other changes are made to the PC. I use an answer file for OOBE settings, use this: sysprep /oobe /generalize /unattend:sysprep.xml. This XML has been tested and works fine. I then capture the image and redeploy on a matching system (or reboot the Master PC) and then get the above errors. As I understand it, this DLL is part of the Intel SoundMAX software package for the Intel integrated audio. However, I hope I am not stuck with a busted up image and I can service it offline to correct the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Should a newbie wait until an expert has replied to a post
Tripredacus replied to AnnieMS's topic in Site & Forum Issues
Yep just go ahead and posts. A lot of the time, I will respond to a topic where I do not know the subject matter, but may have an idea. Sometimes, asking a question will lead the person in the correct direction without you really doing anything. Or else you can also be like me and post stuff that's inaccurate or based on rumors. I feel like such a goof when I do that. -
Everyone said there was a bug in the new forum version. It has become self aware and is now attempting to communicate with us!

Well I'm not really sure how BitLocker works, that is the details of what it does. I also cannot find any detailed information about that process without looking up how to crack it. I talked to a couple people and the best idea that came up is that perhaps these duplicates are the locked copies? I am also still thinking that WinPE is likely missing something to make it work properly

It looks like that site is all about booting via Nix hosts. I am not sure what you mean by bootmgr being slower in 7 but honestly I never used RC version of PE. If there is a significant increase to bootmgr time, it seems to be offset by total client boot time. For example, our WinPE 2.1 images take about 5-6 minutes to boot, but the WinPE 3.0 images are more like 3 minutes. Also, I am wondering if there is a speed difference between using Server 2008 vs a PXE Linux solution.
-
You will also get a bunch of warnings in the event viewer.
-
Perhaps there are additional files needed in the PE to run that service? I don't know why you are running it in the first place.

There's Windows Home OEM media floating around on the net. Get on one of the torrent sites and download it. As long as it's a OEM version of Home it should accept the key off the computer. As well you shouldn't. This type of discussion is not allowed here.

Try this site: http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp I managed to get a proprietary DIN cable from there for like $2 that Radio Shack told me that it 1. Isn't made anymore 2. They don't carry it 3. I could pay $80 to get it online

Well I'm not really talking about slipstreaming. I had no problem servicing Vista with SP1 without recreating the image.

[GUIDE] Creating WIM images of Windows XP for system deployment using
Tripredacus replied to IcemanND's topic in Windows PE
Looks like I jumbled up my words again. Support of XP through the OEM channel ended last April. So Microsoft does not support the XP my company uses anymore anyways.
