It looks like its a DirectX 10 only game, and will not run on any (older) versions of DirectX. There had been some projects to get DX10 to work on XP but I don't think any of them ever worked well enough for anyone to swear by them. Note, Windows 7 comes with DirectX11, DX10 started with Vista. Your best bet, since there seems to be BIG news about this compatibility, would be to see if the game developer ever releases a patch to let it play on XP or not. http://kotaku.com/5478830/just-cause-2-wont-support-windows-xp

Server 2003 setup behind a router
Tripredacus replied to smallsoldier's topic in Networks and the Internet
You can use any IP range on the NIC, say 192.168.0.1-254. Just remember that the computer can't have more than one gateway. You'll be using a gateway on the WLAN to get to the internet, so you won't be able to use a Gateway on your LAN port for the server. Do you need your wireless clients to be able to access the LAN clients as well? Or do you mean you want to use the Server as a Proxy Server so your lan clients can access the internet through the Server's WLAN interface? -
Changing windows version in Autounattended
Tripredacus replied to MobileTek's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Yes, the WinPE related passes go in the WDSClientUnattend.xml, the other passes are attached to the install images. Here is an example of my unattend file that is for the boot image. Yes it is for Vista but the passes are still the same. -
Do you get this error on the client? I've gotten this error only when there was a network bottleneck OR if the Server (well my old server) ran low on memory.

Yes those Radeons do work in 98, but it can be tricky. There are no 98 drivers for the X series, I tried the X1650 PRO HD and no luck with drivers.

For both COMPUTER SETTINGS and USER SETTINGS, The values of "Group Policy was applied from" and anything under the "Applied Group Policy Objects" section. It may either have content (including a domain which you can edit the name of if you wish) or it may say N/A. If you do not see this, use GPRESULT /R. For example, I am using a computer that is a domain member, but I am logged on as the local administrator. Under COMPUTER SETTINGS, the Group Policy Was Applied From shows the domain controller. My Applied Group Policy Objects are: However, under USER SETTINGS, I have N/A for both of those. Even so, since I am using a computer that is joined to a domain (even if not using it) the Computer Settings GPOs still are in effect.

Once you get a hang of it, you'll see how easy it is.

What's The Language
Tripredacus replied to jjmeme's topic in Web Development (HTML, Java, PHP, ASP, XML, etc.)
The download doesn't really have anything in it, which is kinda odd. Let's forget that it even has typos in it. I can only find an OCX file and it appears to be written in Delphi. Two DLLs created in Temporary Internet Files, one written in Bordland C++, the other written in Delphi (or Pascal) but exports JavaScript and HTML. The "registration" part is written in PHP and you can see it if you download it. Unfortunately, they don't really have any documentation as to what to do with the stuff in the installer. EDIT: I deleted the duplicate thread. -
The only place I've seen an option for this is in BIOS. Is that not an option?

Well I just finished up all the maps in Heroes V. I downloaded a random map generator but either its going to take hours to make a map, or it just isn't working. I'll check it tonight (left it running) I'm thinking that 24 hours should be enough time to generate a map! If that doesn't work, I'll try out Europa Universalis III and then keep an eye out for the two expansions for Heroes V. Update: I hope to win the Heroes V expansion on Ebay. I installed Europa Universalis III last night but I have no idea what I am doing. The music and pictures are cool. I think I'm going to raid the resources of the app and then uninstall it. I will stop by the store today hopefully find something I can play. Next week I'll have to see about getting a video card.

vLite can work, but so can DISM. Check out the vLite forum for more info: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/153-vlite/ Any further vLite discussion in this topic will result in it getting moved to that forum.

We have topics about this in the WinPE forum, which is where I am going to move this topic to.

OK so you have noted there are "multiple" administrators. There is likely a security policy affecting you, what does GPRESULT say?

Can Windows 7 shutdown not block all the windows behind it?
Tripredacus replied to PlayWithFire's topic in Windows 7
I'm not certain, as I do not get this. But I changed a Local Security Policy, the one that is for the protected desktop for the UAC. You could try disabling it and see if that makes any difference. Or you could SAVE OFTEN and set Firefox not to prompt when closing. -
AOL used something like this, but I think it just went to something within their network. I also think this still does exist, I read in a document somewhere that said to go to a URL, but it wasn't a domain. I didn't try going there but I bet it would work.

Yup you are right Tripredacus. I've used /apply many times to reinstall a computer and retain the user data. It wipes out the registry tho so any programs require reinstallation that are not part of the image. Right, because the registry is actually a physical file, so it will just replace those. However it IS possible to not capture the registry into your image. This may not be something you'd want to do, but you could add the config folder into the capture exception list.

some stupid song on the radio that keeps repeating "say what you need to say" over and over through the whole thing. Who comes up with this stuff?

Pin a folder shortcut to StartMenu or Taskbar?
Tripredacus replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Windows 7
I have a similar request (enough not to make a new topic) to this one. Say I have an existing icon in the Start Menu, but it shows up under the cut. I want to get that shortcut to be pinned to the Start Menu so that you see it right away without having to click the Programs bar. Any ideas? EDIT: Third party software need not apply. -
Suggestions for type of solution i need for Backup/NAS
Tripredacus replied to jiewmeng's topic in Hardware Hangout
WD Greens run at 5400rpm (although some advertising reports it as 7200rpm) and that is going to be too slow. I know that Greens are cheaper but if you are going WD and going RAID, you should get some RE2 or RE3 drives. They are more reliable than Green or standard drives. Other companies make RAID Edition drives too, but I haven't used them. RAID5 has an overhead where if you go over 3 drives you "lose" a drive. You don't technically lose it, but you won't see the size, as one would/should be used as the spare. RAID0 is very fast but no data protection like RAID5. Wiki isn't known for always having the best info, but their RAID article is fine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID#Organization Oh, thanks for this post as I forgot I have to get our NAS up and running! Ok maybe I will do it later, its making a really loud beep that won't stop. Anyways I found out it has 4 1TB WD RE3 drives in a RAID5 on an Adaptec card, max capacity is 3.633TB. OS is kept on 2 80GB RAID1 WD RE3 drives on the motherboard. This is probably too overkill for you, but this NAS actually just does (or will once I can get it to turn on without that beep) do its job over the network, as implied by the N in NAS. It is not a NAS if you are transfering data via USB. -
Yeah, I think my PE 2.1 has no time limit because of how I made it. I originally had a Win PE 2.0 and then did a "servicing upgrade" to v2.1 on it. I do not remember exactly how I did it (this was in Vista SP1 RTM) so I couldn't tell you anyways. Too long ago! Anyways, so yeah my WinPE 2.1 is a WinPE 2.0 that was updated incorrectly offline instead of doing the right thing of rebuilding the WIMs altogether. I think the behaviour can be discussed but no methods of changing it is allowed.

I was reading this blog here: http://blogs.technet.com/office2010/archive/2010/02/23/understanding-64-bit-office.aspx About reasons why you would want to consider going with Office 2010 64-bit version. I'm thinking... OK I am a lead designer on a project to build an aircraft carrier (this is a weird example by them as it is) and I need to use 2GB Excel spreadsheets... My first thought was... how long would it take to open a 2GB Excel file? Ever try to open a 10MB text file with Notepad? Ever a 100MB file? Usually it sits around for a REAL long time before giving you an error. OK, maybe Notepad is not a good example, but still... Then a co-worker said that if you are dealing with 2GB spreadsheets, you probably shouldn't be using Excel.

Ok just want to make sure you are running Windows XP. Also is it Home or Pro, or are you on a Domain or is this computer part of a domain but logged in locally? Are you having problems opening any other programs, such as Task Manager or MMC.EXE? Some viruses will do behaviour like this. Also if you are just trying to get at the startup list, you can also get there with CCleaner. That being said, I'm not advocating that CCleaner is a workaround if there is a problem with your system, but if you are troubleshooting an issue, this may be a quick fix and then work on fixing the MSCONFIG problem after.

WD4000AAKS, hard drive running and STOP
Tripredacus replied to cuudulieu's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Here are the specs for the drive in question: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16822136076 Have you run WD Tools on it yet? Do you get an error in your Operating System? -
*Fixed* Problems with fresh install on new build
Tripredacus replied to the_vandyl's topic in Windows 7
Oh you should probably change it back to S3 for Windows 7. THis would definately appear to be a problem with the HDD and not the other components. Unfortunately, I do not know much about installing Windows (any version) on an SSD. -
Yes plus the printer at the office is way better anyways!
