Control Panel: Display as a menu
prathapml replied to McoreD's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Here's what you want: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "Start_ShowControlPanel"=dword:00000002All the other start menu configuration is found there (in that key) as well. -
Ha ha ha...... That's what I meant RyanVM! The actual thing needing to be done, is simple enough and is described on the first page. But those trying to explain using the command switches and using winrar to those who aren't bothering to read the documentation that comes with the apps themselves - THEY are the ones tearing their hair out. Because you have a few posts there asking exactly WHY you gotta bother with slip-streaming (in which case why did they bother posting that question in a thread that deals with that), and others who haven't properly understood the process declaring that it doesn't work.

Hey, see this page to know what setupp.ini does: http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/setuppini.html STATUTORY WARNING : That page link is purely for educational purposes. Actually using the processes described there can render your license for windows invalid. This is not the place for discussing warez - so no questions regarding warez will be entertained.

Well, those are a known thing - been around since a long time (YahooPOPs! for yahoo mail). Its Gmail poppers which are new.
-
(^^^^ your most recent post ^^^^) That's EXACTLY what you'll get - you don't need batch files when you use the above described methods. Search the forums for WIHU and XPlode.

Moving the XP Marker Folders (New Member)
prathapml replied to futurity's topic in Multi-Boot CD/DVDs
Yes, Do post that little util - will be nice to have.FYI, I don't use gosh's method to get the BOOT folder - I just extract the boot-install floppy-disk images (which you can download from MS's site). -
That page you have linked to above, shows a screenshot of the XPlode install method. You can get a selectable list if you use the WIHU tool instead. And the "registry tweaks first" is not a problem at all - just change the commands appropriately to get the tweaks apply first.

How do you music cd's with windows server 2003?
prathapml replied to jca2004's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
The purpose is not very clear please, could you clarify? Do you want to play, or rip, or burn music CDs on WS2k3? And then by music CDs, you mean Audio CDs or even MP3/WMA CDs. -
People have been tearing their hair out on the same subject (since some days) at this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=70&t=26304 The "Search" function is your friend.

Yes, open setupp.ini (found in I386) - and check for the last 3 digits on the second line. Retail XP Pro has "000" as the expected string.

Because if it was possible, they would have said so somewhere. They haven't, so its implied that they didn't mean to have it pre-integrated with XP. And I think I found the reason for that - have you noticed WMP 10 is far slower, and sluggish to start up, and UI freezes up sometimes, and uses more memory than WMP9? SP2 and above have WMP9 integrated by default. So now you have to replace wmp9, not v8.@evilvoice That link still doesn't work for me.
-
Nah! I haven't yet got it either. But then, I got it downloaded VERY LONG AGO (well, my sense of days passing is skewed - I downloaded it only a month ago). So I'm okay with waiting.
-
Possibly both would get in trouble.... Its like most other vices you see in people - both the victim and the provider are at fault. Volume Licenses are normally also viewed in terms of open-ended site licenses that are limited by the number of machines specified. So its again not within the terms of agreement to offer anybody a "take-this-home". VLKs (or corporate editions, as they are more commonly known) also normally are offered only to businesses that have a few thousands (or hundreds) of PCs in possession. From that angle, your boss is a big guy I suppose? XP Pro (which is what the corp. edition is) supposedly has terms in its license that allows you to have it installed on a desktop and a laptop, but only use one of the two at a time (I don't know if these terms were changed with the release of SP2). In that case, you can legally take that copy your boss is offering you and install it on your laptop.

About the replies that recommend moving to a different browser instead: Thoughts for the sick of IE This initially is what I wanted to submit in this thread, but to avoid deviating from the topic at hand, I decided it would be better off having its own thread.
-
The voice commands feature was already mentioned above.... Clarification to moderators: Please don't move this thread to the poll center. The poll being attached in this topic is only incidental, and a secondary feature. The main topic content is more "non-Poll related".

About the articles that recommend moving to a different browser instead: If you are REALLY done and tired of IE, its understandable that you'd want to move to some other browser. But before you do that, evaluate your options: 1. IE is pretty much receding now after having had its day (its too widely used for its own good). 2. Firefox is modelled a lot after Netscape Navigator - and that's a bad architecture indeed in this day. 3. I accept that firefox has its advantages, but I've seriously not found it to be THAT MUCH better than IE. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. The reason its looking attractive today is that it doesn't have as many exploits as IE, and that's because it doesn't have as many FEATURES as IE, lol. As more ppl start using it, the mozilla/firefox inadequacies will become all too obvious, and you'd want to change browsers once again. 4. Opera (the browser) is on far more solid ground. It was built from ground up 3 times. And its latest version is very compatible with 99% of sites - for the rest you have the inevitable IE (and firefox isn't 100% compatible either). Opera is TRULY standards compliant. 5. Opera bundles a good e-mail client, a very good UI design, an amazing degree of control over what you want (which other browser allows you to "show only cached images", or the action of "undo closing last tab" ?). 6. The latest version has integrated voice command ability, and its compatibility with keyboard-only browsing with keyboard shortcuts for everything (for "keyboard warriors) is legendary. Its suitability for quick browsing is proven too - its the fastest in most (not 'ALL' - I hate generalisations) real-world conditions. (who has ever believed the results obtained "under test conditions" anyway? They are doctored to suit whoever is paying for it) 7. It is a paid-for software. Not that free software are in any way short on motivation, but reality has proved that people who are paid to do something are far more interested in seeing benefits for their customers. Those of you in the IT-services field can see the merit in this argument - What level of support do you (expecting to be viable) give a friendly neighbour who calls you, vis-a-vis what you give your clients? 8. Opera has unlimited trial on their browser, if you don't want to pay for it. Just a single line ad, far smaller than the google "Ad-Sense" syndicated Ads - they gotta have revenue inflows to keep the operations running you know.... And all indications are that they won't stop offering that free-to-use option anytime in the near future. The same time it takes you to get accustomed to firefox, put it in with Opera Browser. Supporting a well-meaning and competent alternative is ultimately beneficial as it keeps options open for you. STATUTORY WARNING : This is not a proxy advertisement by Opera Software ASA. Just an enunciation of facts by a long-time user. Note for firefox fans: Please don't get me wrong, I like firefox and that's what I use on platforms that don't have a browser as good as firefox. I have a lot of respect for the mozilla foundation and the selfless service they are providing the community since many years. I don't say they are bad - a firefox user is every bit entitled to exercise his/her choice (and use what he/she wants) as is anybody else. Let's not make this thread a flaming bait for any group - Mature discussion expected.

aaaahg.. still seeing welcome screen...
prathapml replied to mccompunerd's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Is the welcome "animation" the only thing coming up? Are the screens also showing? If the welcome video (or animation as you put it) is the only thing bothering you, you can get rid of it by using the below - (this is by someone else, I haven't tested it) [Unattended] FactoryMode=yes And, if your winnt.sif is really as shown above, the problem is simple - a spelling mistake! Make that UnattendSwitch=Yes Now it should work perfectly. EDIT: jrzycrim has said the same above, that's what I get for not refreshing my page for half-an-hour, and then replying. lol -
@Bi0haZarD What browser do you use? And try clearing out all cookies and the cache, and logging in again.
-
Ummmm.......... Not to take away any from it, but this theme is SERIOUSLY old - ^^^^^ Says their home-page. And there's nothing "Jaguar" about it. Its just the normal OSX looks. Also, compatibility with SP2 is doubtful. Moreover, when our own member (flyakite) has a better (IMO) application for the same purpose, why'd anyone want the much older one. You can get Flyakite's Mac OSX 6.0 (for XPSP1 ONLY) from this thread: Flyakite SP1 6.0. Now flyakite's Mac OSX visual changer suite is far more updated and complete.
-
no, its not possible.

Open up the "Security Center" from Control Panel. Then at the left-side bar, look for the option (at the bottom) called "Change the way Security Center alerts me". Click that link, and you get the option you need.
-
yes. Especially when you change your mail address in msfn user control panel, to your Gmail account. (so that "topic subscription reply" notifications come into using "Conversations")And you CAN assign the other buttons on the mouse special functions (like close tab for middle-button as you said). But I don't use it since my scroll mouse makes it difficult to middle-click. And yeah, I have tried avant browser, its of poor design. MyIE2 (known now as maxthon) can flog it dead anyday! And Maxthon can be modded as well, to use the gecko engine for page-rendering.

@oftentired Thanks for the suggestion. Its actually easier in XP. Just start the browser you want, set it to takeover the link protocols (therefore becoming default browser) it should manage. And set IE to not ask to be made "default browser" every time it starts. But that's not the main topic here. @XPerties Yes, there are a few problems communicating between those components. The integrated components in XP don't want to play well with external software. For one example, is yours above (that outlook link error). Another is native links (NOT USER-POSTED LINKS) launched from the interface/menus in Windows/MSN Messenger which will insist opening only in IE. As for the main topic of this thread, XPerties, I see an "Image toolbar" pop-up whenever I take my cursor inside a picture (any format) in IE6 (SP2 also, before you ask). Then you can use the save Image function, and the beauty of WinXP shows up once again - you can save in BMP/JPEG/GIF. And just now for your sake, I double-checked the details (which I'm telling in this paragraph) on my US English, XP Pro SP2 - it works. About why it may not have worked for you: Maybe you have applied the registry tweak that disables the Image toolbar. Or some other .REG accidentally ran without your knowledge or was run by somebody. Hoping this helps....

Oh! Is it so?That sucks! Too bad for those waiting for it to go public. And yes, to their credit, their "beta" service doesn't look that way at all. All functionality is available, and works perfectly. But they just about have passed 6 months from the date of launch. I still remember - the first of April, the announcement of a 1000 MB mailbox, the shock-waves it sent through every-body, the "april-fool" allegation - yup, they've come some distance since then.
