Hey, you got the idea right - you can delete those folders, if you'll only be doing a clean-install from CD of the english Windows XP SP2. See this page for more details - http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/space_saving_tips.htm.

Famer, true. All indications point towards that direction. You did put it in the best words possible. Well, I was actually typing the same thing, but you were minutes faster! So I ended up with just an "agree" post.

Mr. Spock, all the best for this project. Its pretty simple, and been done by lots of people here. There's even guides and a section of the forum (for questions). All Windows multi-boot DVD guide - unattended - by our member flyakite MSFN multi-boot forum - Important topic (to read, introduction)

Adding this MSI installer property, will do what you want- INSTALLDIR=<drive>:\<install_path>For example, JRE_SE_1.4.2_05.msi /qb INSTALLDIR="D:\Programs Folder\Java" ADDLOCAL=jrecore, extra IEXPLORER=1 REBOOT=ReallySuppress will put the files to be installed in there. For more details: Silent Installation documentation AppDeploy info for the JRE package Intranet deployment using MSTs Hoping this helps....

Hmm... Are there any updates to download after SP2? 'Coz there have to be available updates to get the notification... EDIT: OK, never mind, yes there are... the TCPIP.SYS update, I think. @ninnox I do get a notification by default - is it a slip-streamed copy of WXPSP2 that is having this "non-notification" thing? Coz those are normally the best ones - no problems.

How to set the default mail application
prathapml replied to Neoseifer's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@neoseifer If this is on Windows XP, the below is what I use, change the path-names and version number according to your version of Mozilla ThunderBird ;Set the Start Menu sticky for Mail [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\mail] @="Mozilla Thunderbird" ;============================== ; Give details to make Thunderbird the default e-mail client [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird] @="Mozilla Thunderbird" "DLLPath"="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\mozMapi32.dll" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe,0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe -mail" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\properties] @="Thunderbird &Options" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\properties\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe -options" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\protocols\mailto] @="URL:MailTo Protocol" "URL Protocol"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\protocols\mailto\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe,0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\protocols\mailto\shell\open\command] @="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe -compose \"%1\"" ;============================== ; general app settings [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7.1\bin] "PathToExe"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe" ;==============================That should make thunderBird the default mail-client, and set that for the start menu as well. -
Hmm... first you can get the adobe reader 6.02 (latest) made by reading this thread - ar 6.02 silent install. And then go to this thread for details on running Adobe Reader Speed-Up unattended - Adobe Acrobat 6 lite and fast.

@amoss This is what I do, and most others did - its the simpler option, and allows you to install OE later on if you want it. [Components] msmsgs=off WMAccess=off WMPOCM=off msnexplr=off OEAccess=off IEAccess=offYou need to have the above code in winnt.sif, and it will work only if you have merged SP1 or SP2 into your XP. The individual components above are self-explanatory, set it to off (to not install) and on (to have it installed). (in the code above) OEAccess is Outlook Express msmsgs and WMaccess refer to windows messenger. WMPOCM is Windows Media Player. msnexplr is MSN Explorer IEAccess is Internet Explorer Since I don't use OE as well, nor the other components I've mentioned above, I turn off all those, and those won't get installed during setup now. If you want it later on, you can go to "Add/Remove Programs" and get it installed back. If you want any more details, feel free to ask. Hoping this helps...

@mazin Is what I use for Indic languages, (with LANG folder deleted). I dunno the number for arabic, but yeah it should work only if you get that language's support installed thru winnt.sif like above.

The search function is your friend. Also, you can check out this thread to see it contains what you want - Registry Tweaks All registry discussion is happening there. Asking your question there could give you a quicker/better answer.

Hey, if upload is what you wanted, and 100 MB is all you need, put two-n-two together... you get: http://www.100webspace.com/ That's free hosting, though an account won't be free for more than a year. But that's ok, since you can make a different account then.

Sadly, no such for WMM is available. You could use nLite to rip out Movie Maker (and whatever else you don't want). nLite is discussed right here on MSFN forum.

@RyanVM & mazin No patches, and may not be either (coz of the massive extent to which v9.0 got pirated)! Gotta get it direct through sales channels (as of now, atleast ). @smc1979 If you already have 9.0 slip-streamed to include the latest patch, then don't worry about 9.0.1. It has (almost) the same patch, which permanently uses (additional) 5 MB of memory just for the sake of tying in with the Windows Security Center. Is that good or bad, I leave it to you to decide. @RogueSpear There ain't any separate thread existing for SCS. This thread welcomes that discussion as well.

@naji Nopes, no mocking or something involved. I was talking about a genuine thing which could help. No mis-understanding. Heck, we were all newbies once! What's the name of your infected REG key? "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Search Assistant/ACMru/5603/" What's the "Search Assistant" (the search pane on left side, with that annoying dog) in Windows XP called? - You guessed it - "Search Assistant". So the thought that occurred first here was, maybe the "Search Assistant" on your machine at work was kicked out in some manner and this virus took its place. So I said, change the "Search Assistant" back to the un-infected, genuine one (like maybe Rover the dog). Because, if its still using an infected "Search Assistant", that file will be "in-use" and can't be deleted. PHEW!!! Now you see why the term Genuine "Search Assistant" was used? We're here to help you buddy! Friends wouldn't mock while helping! (maybe after the issue is solved, but that's another matter huh? LOL).

Well, this seems to work for 7-zip package itself, and other SFXes created by it as well: -y /q /r:n There's the "-o" argument as well, to specify where you want it extracted/installed, for example -y /q /r:n -o%SYSTEMDRIVE%\install\Applications
-
I believe there's DMI for that - Desktop Management Interfacing. You can query it thru the OS, and the BIOS (if it supports) will return the values for what you want. This is if you want to do it unattended. The "attended" ways to find out MoBo version are many, as indeed mentioned above. I haven't tried coding for it, so I don't know, but googling should help.
-
You got it right. [Components] msmsgs=offThat in winnt.sif will prevent Windows Messenger links being created in StartMenu, Desktop, etc. (it WILL be installed though!) That's what you have to use to disable Windows Messenger. Having that there will not affect your MSN messenger in anyway - they are both different things! Any errors you saw when you used the above might just be due to something else, so no worries. So, using the above code in winnt.sif will do what you want - to disable Windows Messenger, and have only MSN Messenger.

Hello Mr. Spock. You're welcome to bug the forums with questions! (though remember to read the forum "sticky"ed topics, and the guides all over, and don't forget the search) You will sure like your time here.

Help with Windows 2000 [Components]
prathapml replied to Historic's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Some of the threads here had got their winnt.sif problems solved when they changed the position of the relevant section. So maybe a try could be given to that? This is the order in which I have mine: ;SetupMgrTag [Data] [Unattended] [GuiUnattended] [UserData] [Display] [TapiLocation] [RegionalSettings] [Branding] [URL] [Identification] [Networking] [Components] [SetupParams] [Shell] [GuiRunOnce]It seems that (for example) having the [Components] block before the Identification block would leave [components] unprocessed. Do tell us on how it works out. -
Hmm... Activate the Network Tray Icon - was being discussed until a couple of days back!
-
Much of the "Application Data" folder there is junk as well - just leave the "Microsoft" folder and can delete the others (but do take a second look at what you're deleting there).
-
he he... Its never too late, dare2001! Welcome!

How can anyone help you by replying if you made this a poll-only topic? *fixed it for you now There's a new link to the winamp MSI in the winamp thread, by Alanoll now - winamp 5.05. If you merged SP2 into XP, then you don't need to install MDAC 2.8 - its already there. But still, if you want to install MDAC, see this thread - MDAC silent. Not difficult, just a few minutes of searching!
-
You got it right. That's the best solution.
