  1. Okay, this post is relevant only if you're thinking of changing how the guide is formatted.... (on second thoughts, this request can co-exist with current formatting) Basically, the java-script drop-down menus are quite fidgety. Some browsers can't display it properly. And at other times, the menus take a long time to load on slower connections. Plus, I'd like to have an offline-readable guide which is not easy with the current format. Of course, if the entire HTML source dirs of the guide was with a person, then he can see the Jscript menus offline too, but it'd better not be given away (templates, and all... ). Currently, I have only 2 ways to take entire guides in offline-compatible form: 1. Print page-by-page to PDF form (too much effort needed) 2. Using Offline Explorer to download all pages as it is from a site. The second option is worse than the first, but still its better than nothing. Now, in both cases, the java-script menus won't work. So having navigation through direct links is a good idea. Each page could have a link at bottom to the "Next Page". So that one can start at index.htm, and then keep progressing through the pages with "Go to next page". Moreover, the "next page" approach is newb-friendly as well. SUMMING UP: Give a "Next page" link on each page of the guide. So that absence of the JS-driven menu on top should not become a handicap.
  2. eh? What are you running, anyway? I don't ever get to such high memory consumption. Of course, when running VMware or UT2004, lot of RAM is used, but otherwise usage is very less. Try closing the apps you don't use or don't need.

    xplode in Win99

@Wraith I can tell it with certainty, that XPlode 1.00 (its not the latest, I know, but I like it since it is "good enough" ) works properly with win2k. All functions work fine, and no bugs of any sort even at T-12. [note for those unfamiliar with XPlode: you would need gdiplus.dll to run it in w2k]
  4. lol, right. But I bet not all of the INF stuff in gosh's pages is readily recall-able. Oh well, I guess we just need a surfeit of trigger-happy PDF-dudes. Because there's so much of pages and so little of it readily formatted in such a way as to read offline. (forget about the forum - forum pages are far cooler with the ability to "print topic") B) But the guides.... I think I'll ask alanoll to format the new uA guide so as to be easily "offline"able.
  5. Its really pathetic that so many guides and satellite/spin-off sites are created by MSFN members, and its not present in whole form, for anyone to read. So here's the plan - list out whatever good guides we have. If I've left out anyone's site, please add it in. If you know of other members of the forum, who have/maintain guides, add it in. Just a short-and-sweet post (without chit-chat) please, lets not make the thread too long to be useful. http://unattended.msfn.org Unattended CD/DVD Guide - The big-daddy of 'em all http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com Multi-boot CD/DVD guide http://gosh.msfnhosting.com Very comprehensive info - for advanced unattenders More resources: XPlode page's not working right now, will add later. http://www.kalytta.com/wihu.php Windows Installation Helper Utility http://nuhi.msfn.org nLite Home-page http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com XPCREATE, plus more info http://b0r3d.msfnhosting.com winnt.sif creator tool http://maxxpsoft.com Unattended XP creator, and XP Tweaking System http://btsunattended.net/EN/DriverPacks Driver Packs maintained for various classes of hardware http://ryanvm.net/msfn Switchless app-installers and update packs The list above is not in any particular order, its just at random - so if your page has somehow been missed out, I request that you make a post with the link and one-line description. List only pages that aren't linking back into the forums.
  6. Its working, but my connection is the one not working all the time. So I needed an offline version. Anyways, that's what I ended up doing. Used Offline Explorer to dl the entire thing. But the Java-script menu is not working (offline) now...
  7. Does anyone have a complete offline-readable version of gosh's guide ? Has anyone made either PDF or has a html mirror of the site? Because the site is very informative indeed, plus he says that The site I'm talking about, is this - http://gosh.msfnhosting.com
  8. Foxit reader looks good, its biggest advantage being no need to install, and small program foot-print, and quick running. So if I'm distributing a PDF on CD and am not sure if the recipient will have a PDF reader. including this one an attractive option. But it seems to crash on any PDF that is 8 MB and above. If speed of opening PDFs is what is being considered to move to Foxit, check out Adobe Reader SpeedUp. You can even have it run silently (by using a file called deployment.ini inside the ZIP file). My Acrobat Reader v6.02 now loads in under 1 second, and yet the plugins (which make it slow, actually) are available if any PDF uses advanced features provided by the plugin. Under such circumstances, alternatives look ugly.
  9. Are you looking for this? WMP Tray Control (after minimise to tray)
  10. The nero release has already been on software news section since some time. Thanx for the omega update, though.
  11. Well, now there is no such thing as C:, D:, G: etc. by itself. It is all relative drive-letter assignments, with respect to what partition you are booting from. Now, if you used PartitionMagic 8.x to set the (what is currently) G: drive as the active partition, it will become C: again. And then PartitionMagic has tools to assist in data-migration of the sort you describe - just use the add-on for that, to convert all references to G: to C: (but *PLEASE* do it carefully, because probably what is currently your C: might become G:).
  12. I have seen that if you have any hot-fixes/updates being installed for IE or OE, the access=off setting becomes useless. As for #2 (your wallpaper tweak), don't use "./DEFAULT" key in registry. Convert that tweak to HKCU, and apply it at T-12 (thru cmdlines.txt).
  13. Well, I don't know if there's a more direct solution to this. A workaround is possible - idea below. The flash install would need to be invoked in an account with Admin privileges. So if you want to avoid having anyone seated there while this happens, you could have the machine auto-login with the admin-account (or a domain account with similar functionality) - this is do-able by using temporary registry tweaks, lets keep it such that it gets applied once and then after flash is done, another tweak to set it back to require user-login. Now, after the admin-login (as per above), just running the MSI installer with a switch of "/QB" should be enough. If you have any special build of the installer that needs user-input, you can use VBscripts (with sendkeys) or Auto-IT scripts for that. After that's done, just reboot (after applying reg-tweak to restore to non-Admin user-login as said above) and it should be over.
  14. I think MS checks for the PID (productID) - the series of numbers that you see below the "Registered To:" details in System Properties. @cyberthug How did you slipstream? Did you use nLite along the way? And if so, then what components did you remove? (you should not remove OOBE if you don't have a VLK CD).
  15. Integrate SP2 into XP CD, disable unnecessary services, cut-out the effects, (and use nLite to remove useless components like WMP, WindowsMessenger) - and then you see XP is one hell of a **** fast OS. On my home PC, XPSP2 installed takes up just about 60 MB of RAM normally. Applications/games when running, will of course use more - but I've not found it to be slow at all!
  16. Create a FAT32 partition for housing Win2k source Create a FAT32 partition for Win2k installation Boot from regular FAT floppy load a memory manager like EMM386 for quicker install Run WINNT from DOS command line After install run from CMD - convert.exe c: /fs:ntfs (to make C: into NTFS ) That's more like it.
  17. Hi eighto2, Welcome to MSFN forum That's a great hardware config. But also telling what version of DirectX you have would help. If you don't already have dX9c, download/install it. And then enable hardware graphics acceleration to "full". But seriously, you shouldn't expect much for gaming on win2k3 - XP is more suited to that sort of task.
  18. Why do you want that much of trouble ? Just place an autorun.inf file in the root of your partitions. [AutoRun] icon=%windir%\icons\HDD.ico
  19. UltraISO creates a folder called "backup" in the folder of whichever ISO I open. This can be very irritating as you can well imagine. Strange thing is.... ultraiso *USED* to do that, then I moved to the 6.5x versions and it did not do that anymore. Then now I moved to v7.2.5, and it has started it back once again. I've been constantly upgrading to newer versions as they get released. So why does it act strange, then stop, then act strange again? I believe it has something to do with a configuration option. Since there's lot of ultraiso users here, hopefully you'd know what's causing this? Thanks in advance.
  20. Well, I'm thinking its a wonder he did not hack the "leet" post then. Ha ha...Right, that correction was needed.
  21. I have that tweak listed in the attachment which you can download from first-post of this thread. Try it, you'll find many new ones.
  22. Oh, so that is all? I thought you had discovered some *MAJOR* problem. Well from what you say, there is not any problem with the *METHOD*. Just that the "wxp.bat" by easyboot was missing some file-names. So just add the files that Incroyable HULK mentions, and all is fine.
  23. Its compatible just as well, with WMP9. Overall, its a nice skin. details
