Actually, .msc files don't contain any resources. So you don't need to modify anything in there. All .msc files are like plug-ins, which are read by the MMC console and displayed to you. Try opening any .msc file with notepad, and you will see what I mean. Now, I've tried XPize, and I think I know what you want to change...... Try to open MMC.exe with resource-hacker - that's where all the relevant resources are stored. Hoping this helps....

1. Use nLite (available and user-supported right here, on msfn forum) to merge the driver CABs. So driver.cab and SP2.cab will become one. Its better that this step be done, simply for the sake of simplifying later editing. 2. During the same time, I think nLite also allows you to integrate drivers into the I386 source (it will do all the required txtsetup.sif and drvindex editing by itself). I think this is what you want - to have the drivers as part of the original set of files in windows install (no need for $OEM$ tree). If nLite does not do the type of driver-integration that YOU want, you can manually do the driver integration yourself. Lastly, doing the above 2 steps and then upgrading, will work just fine. (just ensure that there are no *OTHER* mess-ups). Do post back with your results.

Hey, if a restart is fixing your problem, then you can do something alternative to fix it. Go into device manager, and disable the device. Enable it back, after 5 seconds. I've found that this normally has the effect of re-initializing the device (which is what a restart does) and has fixed many times, my DSL modem's problem as well.

@mendipjohn The merging of hot-fixes into base sources - that's indeed a main reason why I like WS2k3 SP1 (even if its still in RC). @Spaceboy Two probable reasons for your problem: 1. Slip-stream SP1RC1 into your CD, and do a fresh install, and see if its fine now. 2. Or its the TCPIP max-half-connections limit affecting you - that can be patched to get back pre-SP1 style unlimited connections.

Well, go get your disks then. Plus, one more reason you should not do this on win98, is that if you do the editing on XP/2k, you can install VMware and test out the result without wasting CDs.

Well, all I can say is, both VirtualPC and cdshell/BCDW are not very good. I use VMware for my testing, and EasyBoot for making multi-boot.

Hey, since the MSI is asking for the setup.exe to run silently, try editing the MSI to remove requirement for setup.exe. There was such a post in the iTunes 4.7 thread. Other than that, cuteFTP has *GOT* to work with the setup.iss setup.exe -s -k

If you'd need assistance to create it, then you need help to fix any problems that come with it as well..... Why not just use a proper XP machine, go to the forum link, and read through the topics there.
