[solution] Progress bar while extracting driver packs
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Device Drivers
Yes I have. gospeed The problem is in your presetup.cmd file The "showing the progress bar" section must go AFTER the "finding the CD/DVD drive letter" section. It has not determined the %CDDRIVE% variable yet for it to work before. Also the original "Decompressing the DriverPacks to the harddisk." section can be commented out as it's not needed any more (add REM before the line) or you can remove the section. The whole thing should look like this. REM +==========================================================================+ REM | | REM | This presetup.cmd file was dynamically generated by the DriverPacks | REM | BASE, to work with the DriverPacks without any further editing. | REM | However, if you would like to add some custom functionality, you can | REM | edit this file without any problems. [solution] Progress bar while extracting driver packs
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Device Drivers
I use the driverpacks from BTS as well as the fake setup.exe from driverpack base but I do not use the driverpack base installer. I just do it manually instead. Do you have... FOR %%h IN (%CDDRIVE%\OEM\DP*.exe) DO "%%h" x -y -aoa -o"%SystemDrive%" in you presetup.cmd file (notice the changes to reflect your info) Is the OEM folder in the root of the CD? eg. D:\OEM after running my batch file are all the .exe files created? they should be put in your OEM folder instead of the .7z files. Did you put them in the OEM folder? If still not working show me the contents of your presetup.cmd to better help you. -
[solution] Progress bar while extracting driver packs
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Device Drivers
Any way around this? My driver packs were renamed along the way Simple fix. In the batch file change the line dir /b /a-d DP_*.7z > temp.txt to dir /b /a-d *.7z > temp.txt and in your presetup.cmd change FOR %%h IN (%CDDRIVE%\OEM\Drivers\DP_*.exe) DO "%%h" x -y -aoa -o"%SystemDrive%" to FOR %%h IN (%CDDRIVE%\OEM\Drivers\*.exe) DO "%%h" x -y -aoa -o"%SystemDrive%" I don't like using *.exe just because any .exe in that folder will be executed. If they all start with DP like your example without the underscore "_" then just delete that from the two locations. IE... change DP_ to just DP On another note if you find the progress bar too large you can make it smaller by changing >>diag.rc echo FONT 10, "MS Shell Dlg" to >>diag.rc echo FONT 8, "MS Shell Dlg" I hope that helps. -
Well said! Or buy a big spool of DVD-R and spend a day burning it all. That's what I do.

More info if you still want RAID. (RAID 1) The two 120Gb hard drives you have will act as one drive. You will no longer have 240Gb of storage. Since one acts as a backup of the other they will be one 120Gb drive. (mirrored) After converting to a RAID you will loose all data on the drives and have to reinstall Windows. You will need the owners manual of the motherboard to know which sata ports to plug the drives into (assuming it has a raid controller on it). If you don't have it download it from the manufacturer. Read it! Read it again! If during boot up you do not see a screen describing raid then it is disabled in your bios. You will need to enable it in your bios. If enabled and connected properly you should see a raid screen during boot and it will say to hit a key to enter the raid configuration. Do it. You will have two choices raid 0 (stripped) or raid 1 (mirrored). Choose raid 1 and read the screen for what to do next. after the array is configured you will have to reboot and reinstall windows. good luck

On the page where it says install, on the bottom left there will be a link that says repair windows or something to that effect. Click it and it should show the Vista instal -- click next and the top option will be to repair the boot loader. :EDIT: I just realized that option should only be there when booting from the DVD. DVD burners are so cheap these days why not just spend the $40 or so to get one

I don't understand how you could put a 7Gb image on a 6Gb partition. Could you not load up XP, emulate the image again and try a bootloader repair from there? It sounds like you need to use bcdedit.exe which is located in your Vista system32 folder. I doubt it will run from XP but you could try. bcdedit /? or... bootsect.exe which is in the boot folder on the Vista DVD. bootsect /help read about it before you try it. not my fault if you brake it anymore. just trying to point you in a direction good luck Sorry if off topic but you can resize partitions and drives in Vista. It's a built in utility.

If you don't know much about it why do you think you need it? anyway..... You will have to provide information of the hardware you use. Do you want speed? raid 0 or data safety? raid 1 Do you have a raid controller? You will need two equivalent hard drives. Do you have that? It is fairly easy to do. If you google "raid" you will get a tonn of information. wikipedia

This is a line from the Windows Vista Product Guide available here Each test results in a capability score between 1 and 5.9 for the component. Since a PC’s performance is limited by the lowest performing component, the overall test result, or “base score,” for the PC is determined by the lowest of the five scores. So yes 5.9 is the max.

Maintaining a certin level of hype helps companies attract investors and drive up stock prices. It's just marketing.

Because of the lack of Vista drivers for my Promise controller I switched from a raid0 back to IDE. My primary hard disk score went from the 5.4 to 4.3. Who ever said raid0 had no benefit? Details: in Vista 32bit two IDE WD 40Gb in raid0 partitioned to 60gb = 5.4 (using XP 32bit drivers) in Vista 64bit one of the same 40Gb drives no raid =4.3 I think I'll have to try my XP 64bit drivers next

This lite version did not work for me in a fresh Vista 64bit install. The full installer forces a directx9.0 install (Vista has dx10 out of the box). There must be something needed from 9 that's not in 10. After using the full installer then deleting Nero and using your installer it worked. Unfortunately I did not write down the error message when trying to run 'lite'. sorry I would love to use the lite version and not the full but.......... hp38guser do you have a Vista box to try it out and see what's up? It installed fine but would not run just an error message. The next time I reinstall I will write down the error. maf I sent you a PM with a download link. It should not cut out. Let me know.

I've been having grief with the new boot loader as well. First had XP on both drives- loaded Vista on first drive and all worked well but..... Reloading XP on the second drive kills the boot loader... no problem just fix it with the Vista DVD then... Reinstalled Vista by deleting the first drive and reinstalling- I have now lost XP... tried restoring ntldr etc.. and boot.ini... no go... tried adding the {legacy} entry with bcdedit but to no avail. Even easybcd didn't fix it. In the furure I won't reformat the first drive but do a clean install and delete the extra windows folder. It's all a new learning curve. ciao EDIT: while in Vista ran bootsect then restored bcd with vistabootpro and all is well again

Here is a temporary mirror untill the main download site is up. link removed - main links working again I will delete the link and file when hp38guser gets the main link back up. I wish he posted a md5 or sha1 of the file so I could confirm it's integrity but... I hashed the file I have which is; File: E:\Vista\Apps\Nero-7.5.9.0_eng_lite.exe Size: 41386902 bytes File Version: 1.6.0.1 Modified: November-26-06, 2:01:25 AM MD5: CE524521B0BD31AC622EC03A90C62C1B SHA1: 54F1A433B1C68FF6591C222AD22559279BFA880C CRC32: E53BCC72 I have not had a chance to test it myself yet. enjoy

You didn't put VMware Player in your list. It's my choice. It's simple but all I need. It works perfect in Vista as well.

[solution] Progress bar while extracting driver packs
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Device Drivers
For some reason I write my batch file with... STYLE DS_FIXEDSYS | DS_MODALFRAME | DS_CENTER | WS_POPUP But the final result always ends up like this STYLE DS_FIXEDSYS | DS_MODALFRAME | DS_CENTER | WS_POPUP | WS_CAPTION The script is written correctly but gorc.exe when compiling is adding it. The difference is the addition of the title bar. It works without it and that's the way I like it but........ Is it improper not to have the title bar? Should it always be there? Is it bad code without it? Should I add it back in to the code since it get's put there anyway? Or should I not under protest? Based on the lack of feedback maybe I should just let this project fade into obscurity. -
How to make lite versions of Real alternative and QT alternative?
jaws75 replied to chikky's topic in Application Installs
It's media player classic not windows media player. Try this here they also have the QT as well -
The Nero main page Here Says "Windows Vista™ ready!" I just installed 6.6.1.4 The installation says that it is incompatible with Vista and running the program gives the same message but it seams to work fine. I just burned a DVD iso at 16x and it verified. Buyer beware I guess. Anybody else try v6?

[solution] Progress bar while extracting driver packs
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Device Drivers
Here is the original -
Just installed Vista today for the first time. I had to use the XP promise drivers for my raid controller but they work fine. For being a first time user I have to say I like it so far.

[solution] Progress bar while extracting driver packs
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Device Drivers
Thanks for the feedback. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve this or advice on cleaning up the code please offer it. Thanks. I modified the above extraction code to... FOR %%h IN (%CDDRIVE%\OEM\Drivers\DP_*.exe) DO "%%h" x -y -aoa -o"%SystemDrive%" from FOR %%h IN (%CDDRIVE%\OEM\Drivers\DP_*.exe) DO "%%h" e -y -o"%SystemDrive%" While the original did not seem to present a problem I figured this makes it more robust. It tested fine the new way. ciao -
Ok I really disliked the fact that during driver decompression using the drivers from CD or driverpacks.net method the screen would stay blank for up to 5 minutes. It looks like the installation is frozen. The solution is here. If you use a self extracting 7zip file with the right switches it will display a progress bar during extraction. code for the self extracting archive is DPdriverpack-name.exe x -y -aoa -o"%SystemDrive%" put the command FOR %%h IN (%CDDRIVE%\OEM\Drivers\DP*.exe) DO "%%h" x -y -aoa -o"%SystemDrive%" in your presetup.cmd file and the driverpacks will extract showing a progress bar. no more blank screen. Make sure the path reflects the path to your files. Note: Your driverpack files must begin with "DP" for it to work. Or change the batch file. To take it one step further I wrote a batch file to convert your driverpacks (.7z files) to sfx files (.exe). It modifies the dialog for each file so it will say "Extracting 3 of 10 > DP_driverpack_name..." Example How it works is... 1) makes a list of all the .7z archives in the current folder 2) counts them 3) creates a resource script (.rc) based on file number and name 4) compiles the resource script (.rc) into a resource file (.res) 5) uses reshacker to update the .sfx file with the new dialog (.res file) 6) converts the .7z file to a .exe self extracting file (via copy. NO recompression) 7) repeats 3-6 until all files are converted The original .7z files are not deleted and the creation of the .exe files is very quick. Note: NO recompression is done to the driverpacks. All it does is add the sfx module via the copy command. It runs as fast as your PC can copy a file. About 10 seconds or so for the 10 archives I used (223mb). After conversion just put the .exe files in your OEM\drivers folder and add the above line to your presetup.cmd file and that's it. Download the DP_files.zip file and extract it. put the files in the folder with your .7z driver files. you will have the modify.bat file and the bin folder in there. Run the modify.bat file. You no longer need the .7z files, just the .exe files. Download files modify.bat @echo off set x=1 set z=0 dir /b /a-d DP*.7z > temp.txt for /F "tokens=* delims= " %%h in (temp.txt) do call :count for /F "tokens=* delims= " %%J in (temp.txt) do call :sub %%J del /q temp.txt del /q bin\ResHacker.ini del /q bin\ResHacker.log goto :eof :sub >diag.rc echo 500 DIALOG 0, 0, 195, 30 >>diag.rc echo STYLE DS_FIXEDSYS ^| DS_MODALFRAME ^| DS_CENTER ^| WS_POPUP >>diag.rc echo CAPTION "Extracting" >>diag.rc echo LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US >>diag.rc echo FONT 8, "MS Shell Dlg" >>diag.rc echo { >>diag.rc echo CONTROL "Extracting %x% of %z% > %~n1", 69, STATIC, SS_LEFT ^| WS_CHILD ^| WS_VISIBLE, 5, 2, 185, 8 >>diag.rc echo CONTROL "Progress1", 1000, "msctls_progress32", PBS_SMOOTH ^| WS_CHILD ^| WS_VISIBLE ^| WS_BORDER, 5, 12, 185, 13 >>diag.rc echo } bin\gorc.exe /r diag.rc bin\ResHacker.exe -addoverwrite bin\custom.sfx, bin\custom.sfx, diag.res,,, copy /b bin\custom.sfx + %~nx1 %~n1.exe del /q diag.rc del /q diag.res set /A x=%x%+1 goto :eof :count set /A z=%z%+1 goto :eof Tested works with Pyron's, ile5's and BTS's setup.ex_ I use the program gorc.exe to compile the .rc files to .res files from below Source The background in my pic is achieved with this method here Any feedback would be great. Thanks. :EDIT: I removed the underscore "_" from the batch file to match the way BTS renames the files.

[solved] Batch file echo "|"
jaws75 replied to jaws75's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
Works perfect. thanks guys! -
I have a problem. I'm making a batch file to create a .rc file for a list of files in a directory. The only problem I have is I can't echo a "|" character. The ascii is 124. this is one of the lines I would like to echo >>diag%x%.rc echo STYLE DS_FIXEDSYS | DS_MODALFRAME | DS_CENTER | WS_POPUP How can it be done, or is there a vb alternative I could use? Thanks in advance.
