  1. If you own a retail version of Ultimate edition and you're located in the US or Canada, you can purchase up to two additional Home Premium licenses for $49.95USD each. Details here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...nt.mspx#qualify Sorry to our friends who live elsewhere, but I imagine that this may be offered at a later date to international folks.
  2. Not sure it was released to MSDN yet.
  3. I had this problem. It drove me mad for about 2 weeks and then I started reinstalling drivers. Sure enough, M$ had updated my NIC driver and it was makeing everything go to s***. The stutter effect on the desktop was a particularly nice side-effect. Hope this helps.

    Build 5219

How the hell is post beta2? Beta 2 isn't even scheduled to be released for another month or so. It's post beta1.
  5. If they install off of the Dell CD, it does a bios check and skips the screen for key input, using a different key than the OEM key printed on the COA on the outside of the case.
  6. Did you try slipstreaming SP2 without slipstreaming SP1?
  7. Does anyone know where I can get bootdisks for Server 2003 SP1? I'd like to update my AIO DVD, but it won't install 2003 with the RTM bootdisks. Thanks!
  8. Hey 'Felix', Sorry for the delayed response, but things got a bit hectic around here. I was able to reproduce this, but I have not had sufficient time to come up with a working solution. It sounds like you have something in the works tho, albeit somewhat painful. I'm interested in seeing what you've come up with.
  9. Do a google search for cdimage.exe and use that to create your .ISO. It will optimize the DVD and only use each file once, should there be duplicates, using a sort od symlink for the remaining files.
  10. Ahhh... I see now. I was assuming that the user base was already populated. Let me do some investigating for you today.
  11. Right click the Desktop.scf and drag it to the task bar. When you let go, it will ask you if you want to copy, move or create shortcut.
  12. When you sysprep it, did you tell it to generate a new sid (only required if the restore is going to another machine)? If you are generating a new sid, that would cause this problem. -nosidgen - Runs the Sysprep.exe file without generating new SIDs. You must use this parameter if you are not duplicating the computer where you are running the Sysprep.exe file or if you are preinstalling domain controllers.
  13. Check out Mobile Net Switch. It may help you manage your connection better when you switch between wired and wireless. If there is a conflict between the two cards, you can use this to disable one, switch back and forth between the two, etc.
  14. Are you running sysprep before you make your ghost image or are you just imaging the drive?
  15. I'd say that the possibility of generating and using a random password is a lot greater than the possibility of it dumping the password to a text file. I know you are thinking of security, but look at it form another angle. Why would you EVER want your admin passwords dumped to a cleartext text file?!?!? If that were case, just imagine how many more systems would be vulnerable to attack.
  16. You might want to start with the unattended guide.. it should answer most, if not all, of your questions. You can find it here.
  17. Perhaps it's a driver issue. In a case like this, I would disable everything that is onboard and try and boot. If it boots, start enabling devices one at a time. I did see this issue once with out of date drivers and the AC97 onboard audio.
  18. I answered this exact question yesterday. Search for it.
  19. Reinstall the video drivers off of the driver CD that came with the laptop. Then reinstall the latest video issues. This should fix your problems. My Toshiba laptop does the same thing.
  20. I've been using sysprep/ghost for years. The biggest issue I've seen with sysprep and XP is dealing with the HAL. If you sysprep a box and drop an image into a box that uses the same HAL, 99% of the time, you'll be OK. If the HAL type is diffferent, you're screwed. One thing I did was to drop the HAL to "Standard PC" before sysprepping. This solved 90% of the problems and I was always able to reset the system to the proper HAL after I imaged (if necessary). Sometimes you can disable ACPI in the BIOS and get past your loop problems long enough to get things working. I don't know all of your specifics, but I hope that will help you a bit. Cheers! If that helps, drink a VB in my honor.
  21. I don't lnow about your WinPE, but mine boots slower than XP itself because it's booting from a CD. Maybe he could do a dump of PE to a flash drive and boot that. That should be exponentially faster than booting from a CD.
