  1. I just nlited my Win2k and removed as much as possible including IE CORE since I need every spare free RAM I can get.

I knew B4 removing IE CORE that SFX WINRAR archives will take a long time to open without IE CORE

My question is is there a workaround for this?

  2. Thus far I have never used a theme on XP. I just disabled the themes in SERVICES.MSC and used the Win2000 style.

But this VISTA theme I kinda dig.

My question is if I install this pack how much would it slow down my PC. Since my primary objective is speed.

    System:

    ATHLON XP 2800+

    1024MB RAM

    160GB HDD

    RADEON 9800PRO

  3. I live an a resident of hall.

We students here get internet from the router using DHCP. And we even see each other's computer DNS name when online.

I personally have hooked up another computer something like this:

###internet line### -------> ###connects to NIC1 on my computer 1 running Win2k3### --------> with the help of routing and remote I share this internet connection with my other computer lets call it computer 2 which has WinXP.

On computer 1 which is directly connected to the internet socket I can see other computers names and different workgroup's in Network Neighbourhood and even connect to them if I have the password and the username.

On computer 2 which is connected to computer 1 I can only see computer 1 in network neighborhood. Although by typing in IP address I can also connect to other computers in this resident hall. But if a type the DNS name of the computer it will not resolve.

Is it possible that on computer 2 I would also see other computers when I click on network neighborhood or at lest would be able to connect to them by typing in a DNS address.

  4. I did some managing in

    C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Start Menu\Programs

And accidently deleted the STARTUP folder. I have recreated it by copying it over from ALL USER but it just won't function anymore.

Anything I put in it it won't work in it even isn't detected by MSCONFIG utility.

  5. Since the server doesn't have a keyboard or mouse or Monitor connected I connect to it using a WinXP workstation by this command:

    mstsc /v:server /console

But to my surprise this doesn't connect to the username which is already logged in localy on the server 'tom'. but creates a new session for user 'tom'. This works great on Win2k3.

I have set Windows 2000 Server to Remote Administration mode.

    What else could it be?

  6. I am using DiAL UP ADSL for internet meaning I have to click on the icon for the computer to get connected to the net.

On normal reboots I have put the shortcut in the STARTUP and set it so it doesnt ask me any questions and thus when the computer boots up it automaticly connects to the internet.

But latelly I have started to use HIBERNATION mainly because of the faster startup. But with the hibernation I do not know where should I put the INTERNET shortcut so it would also automaticly connect back to the internet once it boots up from the hibernation.

  7. Ran the SP2 installation again with the switch "/log:c:\sp2-install.log"

And I attach it in the hope a solution will be found:

ps1. I've read the SP2 needs to regress some hotfixes prior to it being installed. Since I have removed from the harddisk all of the post SP1 UNINSTALL HOTFIXES could this be the problem?

ps2. U just have to extract it and underneath hides the real file.

    sp2_install.rar

  8. I just mounted in windows the Linuxs EXT3 drive thru the following utility:

    http://www.fs-driver.org/

As all of Linux users know that every file/directory in directory starting with a "." in front of the name (.kde) is considered hidden. Since windows doesn't do this by default I wonder whether it is possible to change the Show Hidden Options or Hide Protected Windows system files or any other setting so that it would also hide all file/folders starting with a dot(.kde).

  9. On WinXP SP2 workstation I would like to index the network with UNC path

    "\\server\d"

So I set up the indexing options as per this guide:

    http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...ice-Useful.html

But I am getting the following errors in event viewer:

I have entered the correct UNC path and also the USERNAME and PASSWORD to the UNC drive.
