Hello!
I brought my home computer here in the student hall. It runs Windows 2003 Standard Edition. At home we had an ADSL connection and it used the RASPPPOE client which I uninstalled now.
Here in the student hall we each get an external static IP and the speeds are about 5MB/s.
The problem is that when using Internet Explorer or Firefox or even WU the speeds start at 12KB/s and then it lowers to 2KB/s or sometimes even lower.
But uTorrent works without problem with the speeds of around 400KB/s.
What is the problem?
The computer is spyware, virus free and fully updated.
SOLVED:
I changed the adapter from force 100full duplex to auto negotiation and upon restart it started to download normally and the connection is 100Mb full duplex.

Win7 build 7000 does not have the taskbar. they took it out.
if U really want it back you would have to replace some files using Vista's files. Can give you a tutorial if you want?

On my home lan I have 2clients plus a server running Win2k3 where all of the needed files are stored.
Lots of times I bring home computers which need fixing and it is annoying to having to always input the username and password to access the network shares.
Is it possible to modify Win2k3 so that it doesn't need a password/username for the network shares?
ps. I know this is possible in linux and since Windows also uses SMB I hope it is possible in Windows also.

Hello!
On my server which is running Win2003 with 512MB ram I would like to set so that Firefox would not get swapped like you can do it with the kernel files(disable paging executive). So that after 4days when I will re-connect to the server via RDP and maximize Firefox I will not have to wait for the data to be read from the page file.
And the task manager says that about 300MB of ram is still free

S3 mode works fine with a startup time of about 4s. BUt hibernation startup is a b***h. During start up 3/4 of time the disk will not do anything.

I also ran this on my main machine with 2GB of ram where I loaded a handful of application together with Windows and Linux running in VirtualBox both set to use 512MB ram.
Here are the numbers in MB

I see the error now.
But what I do not understand is what does this ~8MB mean? Does it mean that only 8MB of RAM is left for the machine or what?
ps. If I also launch Firefox, uTorrent, Excel than the number comes down to ~1MB.

I do not understand Windows XP memory management.
1.In TASK manager under the MEM USAGE if I were to sum it all up and then subtract it from 2GB of my RAM I should have much more RAM free than it says under the Available Physical memory.
2. What is the system cache also in the task manager?
3. what is the peak mem usage also in the task manager?

first I had Win XP x64 installed and after that I installed Win XP SP3 x32 on the second partition, cos I needed to work on some 16bit apps for school. and for a few days both OSes worked normally. But since yesterday the Win X64 OS will not boot giving me an error:
<windows root> System32\NTOSKRNL.EXE missing or corrupt
but the Win XP 32 works normally.

in that case would it be ok if I were to delete the partition where Win x32 resides and also delete on c partition Windows folder, Programs&Files, Docs&Settings. And then put a a Windows cd in and install it to this partition?

Hello! I've been using Win x64 as my main system for about 4months now. And even thou drivers are all 64bit compatible for my system I have to go back to Win x32 simply because I need access to 16bit application which I cannot run in Win x64. These 16b application I need because our college for Computer and Science uses them alot.
This is the situation:
on my main partition C I have Win x64 installed. And since I needed Win x32 for school I installed Win x32 on the second partition which gets the letter F.

the only .ini file is called layout.ini and that one is full of strange code.

bootvis does exist but only works in 32bit Windows XP.

i got a 4GB usb drive.
Would it be faster to format it as FAT16 or not?
And if it is not possible, how would I use the FAT32 driver from Win2k which is much faster?
