  1. This sounds pretty cool. Is everything just as compatibible?

Why doesn't Microsoft just provide a patch you can download to update Windows XP to the newest NT 5.2 kernel? So that way, both the most current 32-bit workstation and server versions of their OS would use the most up to date kernel?

I mean Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server both use the same kernel?

I believe this would be M$ unofficial statement:

    I NEED $$$

  2. On Win2K & XP you have to use the command line, on 2003, XP x64 & Vista you can specify a console connection through the UI by adding " /console" after the server name to connect to.

Any way to have the same behviour with Win2k & XP? Since its annoying having to always type:

    mstsc /v:servername /console

When on different computers its quite annnoying

  3. WHenever I restart the computer or do

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

I get the following error in event viewer

The Network Address Translator (NAT) was unable to request an operation of the kernel-mode translation module. This may indicate misconfiguration, insufficient resources, or an internal error. The data is the error code.

This computer has 1NIC used to connect to ADSL modem.

  4. Heres the even viewer log:

Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. To install the updates, an administrator should log on to this computer and Windows will prompt with further instructions:
    - Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 SP1 (KB823353)

Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 SP1 (KB823353)

But although the update is installed Im still constantly getting the new update thru WU.

  5. If I have WU on AUTOMATIC then it will automaticly download and install the updates. Which is OK 4 ME. But the thing that gets on my nervs is the updates requiring a restart. Because those updates will constanlty annoy you every 10min to restart the computer and if U dont abort it it will restart the computer. How do I disable this annoying feature?

  6. So in essence it is still better to be using LINUX! Since my experience with dealing with DEBIAN distro I only had to restart it if there was a kernel change for security reason. Which RARELY happens. But the UI is so much better in Win2k3 server..

  7. So how can magazine and surveys even compare LINUX vs Windows UPTIME??

Since apperently if you would want a secure WINDOWS SERVER U would have to restart at least once per 2month.

  8. havent used pg in a while now but it could be that the driver has locked up, try running the fix driver thing that comes with it. also it might install itself as a service in which case u will have to end the service in order to close it.

tried all that nothing worked. And the FIX drivers just says that it is unable to terminate it.

  9. My WIN2k3 has the following:

    ASUS A7n8x NFORCE2 >using XP drivers for NFORCE3

    NVIDIA TNT2 >using windows drivers

And the server is rock solid. Only the onboard NIC gave me some BSODS when transfering files to client PCs. So I've configured the onboard NIC to be for ADSL and the 3COM 100MBIT NIC for file transfers to client PCs

  10. sweet. I like the idea that BFILTER has.

But am still not fully satisfied.

Is there a way that I could achieve that without setting PROXY on the CLIENTS?

Since PROXY breaks the GOOGLE's LUCKY GUESS in FF :(

ps. PEERGUARDIAN2 which I have on the SERVER disables blacklisted IPs for the entire network. Something similar I want also for ADs

  11. On my W2k3 server I would like to set up some sort of ADBLOCK. So the client computers all running FIREFOX wouldnt need the ADBLOCK extension or the hosts file.

    Can this be achieved??

ps. I have OUTPOST firewall installed

  12. At home I have 4computers. 3 of them are clients running WinXP,Win2k,Linux. And one is server running Win2k3.

The server has the following roles: ICS,File Server, has direct ADSL connection(no router present), FIREWALL.

ATM I have my network set up as workgroup because Ive never tried DOMAIN B4.

But now I would like to set up a DOMAIN. So I would ask U all if U could help me out as to what I will have to do and change... Or perhaps a guide would be great too

    network.jpg

  13. Server has the following roles:

DNS SERVER, ICS, DHCP SERVER, file server(since it hosts lots of files for the 3client computers)

    my network diagram:

Now I wish to know which services can be disabled, since my only point of references is the WINXP services guide. I cant find anywhere a W2k3 services guide
