Already requesteed in the topic "Suggestion Box"

As I stated for compatibility. Windows XP uses Documents and Settings and it is to support programs which require those folders.
-
The File protection button will pop-up a window with all information needed. For current installation you can check the original dvd for extraction of sti.dll or ask someone to post if, if that is allowed?
-
For sti.dll it is already known that it is required for several other applications as well. It should be kept, when there is a protected file option (or files to keep?). Security Centre And Windows Firewall are seperate components, which can function independant of eachother (Security Centre only monitors that your computer has Anti-Virus running, ad-aware protection and that it has a firewall enabled). I would like the firewall to be removed as well, but all in good time.

@jamieo It is late now, but as I quickly review your changes and check out the screenshots, I come to really like what you did. Seems my no is the same as yours.
-
Documents and settings is now only used as a junction to Users folder for compatibility (as there are many others junctions as well). I would like to have Users under %SystemRoot% and ProgramData under %ProgramFiles%\Data, but it is mere cosmettic. The structure as it is, is rather clear if you know how the junctions are used.
-
I could have said it differently but I totally agree
-
I understand the issue, but the screenshots in the article are not clear enough to let me judge it properly. I have not had problems with it though.
-
Would love to help and check it out, but I only have the goto Photo Gallery button and this is greyed out.
-
I can not confirm the functionality under point 1, however I can agree that I also would prefer this. Now I keep Windows Photo gallery just for quickview. Maybe a tweak/setting quickview enable/disable, which is available if Windows Photo gallery is selected for removal. Enabled makes sure all related files are kept. A thing that roma could verify is, if any options from "quickview" can be selected which lead to Windows Photo Gallery and therefore give errormessages?

@3aces, I can think of several thigns what WLM stands for, but can you tell me. The files that you miss are removed when selecting Tablet PC I think. Maybe these files you mention need to be protected as well. @Cronner. I had a similar error with a previous build of vLite. Only had it once, next run with same version was ok (not that useful, but maybe a bit comforting). @Innocent Devil for me it is around 1,5GB with 0.5 beta (1,3GB with 0.7). Maybe if the files are not used runtime, that the folder can be compressed by default (brings it down to 0.85GB) ? Otherwise it would be costly to performance @Nuhi, I do have some files related to Windows SAT in my global Temp-folder WinSAT_DX.etl, WinSAT_KernelLog.etl and WiSAT_StorageAsmt.etl (0.7 beta off course).

@Mcfly000 Without knowing the exact error, there is no link to start and help you. If you do not know how to create and post a screenshort, tehn with all due respect I do not know what you are doing here in this beta-section (some computer skills can be expected). Only Idea I have is that you might overclocked your pc and that 0.6 worked by coïncidence or it was less stressful on hadware and performance of the whole operation has been improved. Then you can get strange errors, but without the exact error, there is really nothing to say about it.

I asume that this is not that different from the 0.7a10 that I tested., which works nice, no issues during installation and Help works like a charm. I asume it is correct that Help is removed from the Start Menu even though Online Help is kept.
-
Are you referring to some Summer of Code you attended (was itfrom Google?). In any case, it all sounds a bit like jibbarish, but seems we have some nice help from somone who know his business.

By buying and installing the Business or Enterprise edition Put a post in Suggestion box.

I do not think minimum requirements will change that much. There is off course some performance and disk space to be won. However maybe you can run Vista with lower requirements, but if it will enable an easy user experience, I doubt it?

Everyone has replied to this comment up to now so I might as well too... "They're there for a reason." Yeah to be turned off because they use RAM. I did a bit of an experiment - exported the whole Services hive, replaced "Start"=dword:00000002 with "Start"=dword:00000003 and you know what... it actually didn't make much difference in the RAM usage at all, but there were a few errors here and there though. In VMware with Vista you can power it off and adjust the RAM down to 224Mb (no less) then boot it up again and it uses less than 150Mb RAM. Sounds impossible, sounds like a joke, but its true... if you have VMware and Vista, try it. It runs pretty smooth on 224Mb RAM too! I would not recommend doing this exactly like this as there are services in this key that do not show up in Computer Management Services. Check that you only do this for type 32 (dword 20), these are the actual services. This might give you a good indication of what services are needed, but some services do not start-up in manual mode by themselves when needed. If this should occur for RPC service, then you could be in trouble. I can however confirm memory usage went down to around 330MB for me as well. This was however on a fully installed system, with Virus scan enabled in the background, so say around 300 to 310MB without AV.

Thanks, I however also reasd in a post below: Not that I buy that, but it seems controversial. I will leave it enabled for now. Also some dubious tweaks to Diagnostic services, having them active, helps you when problems arise. So then your sacrificing useability/funcionality over a possible performance increase
-
I love disabling services, but how do you connect Application Experience to the Aero interface? Do you have a source where you got that information?
-
You miss the point indeed. We try to disable and remove as much as possible, to gain a smaller, faster, easier installation-source and an intalled Windows Vista which only contains the parts you need to gain performance and disk space.

A topic for all these would be appreciated: UltraVNC requires auth.dll for MS Logon (I; W9x) and authSSP.dll for New MS Logon (II; NT4/200/XP/Vista) functionality to work. Maybe these should all be included in UltrVNC but only authSSP.dll is

I think vLite takes up a lot of CPU power and also a lot of memory. It is a heavy application . Maybe nuhi (vLite creator) can add option for priority. Priority says how much cpu power vLite can use (lowest, low, normal, high, real-time)? It needs so much memory because data from Vista DVD is changed. DVD is 2,5GB and so 256MB of memory in use is not so much.
-
Do not but too much effort in this one, because it is beta program causing and issue on a Windows Vista installation by vLite alpha 7, but I encountered the following error: Product: Paint.NET v3.0 -- Error 1904. Module C:\Windows\system32\wiaaut.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024770. Contact your support personnel. Maybe it is because I removed Windows Image Acquisition? I do not think it is a critical error. Just have it verrified by you nuhi.

If you mean, does Vista upgrade check if your Windows XP is legal, then I could not say. If you mean to purchase Vista upgrade, do you need a valid Windows XP license to make it legal: rather rethorical, but I think the answer would obviously be yes. Fact is that I doubt that many people here have a valid Vista (Beta's and RC's excluded). Legally we might be at fault (or are we does evaluating?), but I for 1 will purchase Vista when it comes available in my language (even though it will cost 40% more than US version ), which makes it morally acceptable for me (not legally).

After selecting my DVD and while copying files to HD, I went on surfing. When it was finished, the selection screen appears strangely and unmovable in the topleft. The topleft has focus, but when, Firefox is open (not maximised btw) and I select vLite from the taskbar, then the main screen appears, but nothing is selectable here. After that I select my Vista version and up to apply everything is in order, beside sopme cosmetic glitches I mentioned earlier. Saved my presets and will continue tomorrow with actual process.
