  1. And if you do press any key, does it boot again from CD with no hardware error ?
  2. Citation needed. I'd hardly call it that. Not even near. Was it even an OS at all? More like a GUI.
  3. If all is as you say (exactly same files used), that might be the relevant difference. Maybe introducing a short pause before network setup can solve that problem ?I must say I've had strange problems with network cards being sometime recognised sometimes not booting BartPE on the same system more times in a row. I never investigated if it was a hardware or software problem at the time.
  4. If the adress displays and he selects copies the text, then it should work. If he just copies the "object" then he migh have a different output in an other type of window.
  5. And nLite doesn't install updates on systems. Google for "WSUS offline". You are still going to do them one by one.
  6. You can still change it as we now have 2 identical meaningless titles next to each other and it's getting ridiculous. Please edit your first post then click on the "use fuill editor" button to change the title.
  7. The rest of the name or the rest of the email adress ? If only the name appears, right click and choose "Properties", then copy/paste the entire email adress.
  8. .Well, I was the one that pointed you to the jumper error in the very 1st answer and that solved your problem, so I'm not that bad. You can thank other people for that, I don't mind. I'm slightly annoyed by the fact you you don't seem at all bothered to understand the very simple explanation we give you about the card that is "not working" and 5 days on, your conclusion is still that the card is "not working". But maybe as you say, I should have the decency to accept that decision you have made ...to not understand. Which I admit, I don't understand. I stop here for good. I swear.
  9. Was there any point trying to explain your mistake ? Please don't bin that card, give it to a friend with a copy of this thread. "1+2 > 2" is not rocket science.
  10. That's where you're wrong guessing when we tell you 10 times, the terms are different because the concepts are. Read this again now you have (or had) 2 cards 1 controller on 1st card 2 controllers on 2nd card total: 3 controllers, this is more than "one plus one", thus one too much. On two controllers, you can have potentially four master/slave devices, 2 masters and 2 slaves. Having just two, the choice is yours to have 2 devices on the 1st card keeping 1 controller or have 2 devices on the 2nd card, keeping 2 controllers and a free IDE connector (that can support a cable for potentially 2 more devices).
  11. I really need some sleep.
  12. Thanks for enlighting me big time on this small subject. Seems (well, I knew that) I have an old version that is comming of the Win2000 Ressource Kit. What I did not know is that forfiles now comes included in Vista and Win7 and so copying the old file next to by batch was sabotaging myself. That old version (I've seen loads of remark about that on the Technet site but not any explanation) has quite a different behaviour; ,i.e. - is using only hyphens before switches, - doesn't accept a space between switch and argument - is picky on having variables in uppercase (@PATH is ok, "@path" is not). - the @PATH only gives a full path when the newer version gives full path including file name. - does not pick up "directories with extensions" (see 1st post) - returns variables without quotes. Using the newer version, forfiles /P KB /M *.exe /C "cmd /c echo @path" returns the list of "C:\temp\KB\KBxxxxxxx.exe" , but unfortunately, it still doesn't pick my /integrate switch so I've done that thing manually now. And unsurprisingly, MS "prevents" you from using the newer version under XP. Thanks.
  13. Yes, I know that. But still you're trying to have TWO Primary ATA controllers (one on each card) and one secondary on the 2nd card. No, the Master/Slave thing is for 2 devices hooked on a same cable, doesn't apply in your description of the problem.
  14. I corrected my typo. @path will not launch the exe file, it will just report its path (which is the same for all the exe). Or should I from that line launch an other batch launching the exe with the exe as argument? I don't know how or why, the version I have needs dash instead of slash and no space after switch. I don't kow where to get a newer version if any. I think I'll do them by hand, it'll take me 1/2 hour.
  15. Hi, I'm not a programmer, more like a "one liner". I'm trying to integrate a bunch of KB (in KB directory) to an XP source (in c:\temp\ris\) under Win7 using FORFILE. My batch file reads FORFILES -pKB -m*.exe -c"KB\@FILE /integrate:c:\temp\ris\ /quiet /passive" once started, it tries to install the 1st KB onto my running system (and fails of course which is better so) then goes to the next one. The lines "KB\KBxxxxxxx.exe /integrate:c:\temp\ris\ /quiet /passive" do work when typed manually. so the KB are found and launched but not with "/integrate". i've used switches before for other tasks (like -c"deltree /y c:\blablabla\@file\blablabla" ) but it doesn't seem to like it here. Am I missing something ? Yes. Also unrelated; FORFILES doesn't pick up directories that have extensions. I mean you can't process files that are in c:\directory1.aaa\.... c:\directoty2.aaa\... it simply can't list them even using mask "-m*.". Any known workaround ?
  16. Recheck all connections (screen, fans, mem slots) Any reason you went the hard way ? Damaged bodywork on the eBay laptop ? Emotional value of the old one ?
  17. I just did. Surprising. On two pc looking at the same 4 files in the same folder, one has Winrar installed and the other has IceOws (other archive manager) and guess what, ... for the zip and rar files, the hovering and tiles do no show same info on both pc. on PC1: ZIP; hovered; "Type Winrar zip archive", tiles; nothing RAR; hovered; "WinRAR archive", tiles; "WinRAR archive" on PC 2; ZIP hovered; shows amount of files in archive, no date, no size, Tiles; "IceOws document (ZIP) RAR hovered; shows amount of files in archive, (no date, no size), Tiles; "IceOws document I also see that IrfanView shows in "Tiles" the dimensions of the jpg file which seems to indicates that the application sort of gets the info it wants in the file. Files that are not handled by any application might not show any "file type" when hovered and display nothing in "tiles view" even if in detail view, Explorer displays a file type according to the extension. And sometimes the "file type" when hovered is not exactly the same as file type displayed in the explorer "file type" column. Bizarre. I don't consider this a big problem (do you ?) Cheers.
  18. I've used it 2 years ago and it worked (and nLite has NOT moved on since then). Do you do everything in 1 go ? Is the starting cd unattended ?
  19. Yes but that's not what Explorer is asking for. I just tried that in "tiles view" and it obviously reads something specific to the very file, not the "file type" Explorer shows in "Details view". For instance I have two exe files, (file type "application"), when hovered one shows "Description: program" the other one shows "Description: Kernel driver installer". Most files do show the file type but some show nothing. There is something in the file that reports a File type (not direct link to the the extension), Description (I think that is what you're after), Company, and File Version. If the field is empty or the structure of the file doesn't provide the field, no info is shown (only Date and Size read from the file system). Possibly the Zip file you're showing is not build by Winrar but by an other archiver, which might make the difference or Winrar does not fill those fields for Zip but only for RAR files, in which case those people at Winrar should have known.
  20. I see HWinfo32 has a field for that serial but mine (a flat panel on an old portable) says "unknown". Not sure if the device has to be able to report it as well. It's free and portable.
  21. Device ID and Vendor ID are reported by the device's firmware/ROM and can be read in the device properties in Device Manager. http://www.pcidatabase.com/search.php?device_search_str=3249&device_search=Search Have you checked the jumpers on you drives ? Depending on the manufacturer you can have more available settings; master /slave / single/ "cable select". If 80 wire cable used (I suppose you do), always put master device at end of cable ( =2nd connector, usually black) ort set devices to "cable select" and system will see end of cable as master. Badly jumpered drives will sometime cause boot problem or not appear at all.
  22. If this is what you meant... Open Windows Explorer, menu Tools / Folder Options/Files Types, scroll down to ".zip", select it, click on Advanced and "Change Icon". Select the application or Icon file from which to get the icon you want. As for why it happened, probably a program that handles that type of files, that you tried then removed ?
  23. Can you try an other RAM stick ? I suppose it only has one slot and 1stick so you can't test by removing one module.
  24. "Plop boot" could solve that. Extract plpbt.iso from the 1st download package and that cd can chainload a boot from USB.

    Boot error

yeah, right. yeah, right. Yeah right. Please step back, take a deep breath and stop this.
