  4. right click the my computer icon and select properties, then select the advanced tab, now in the performance sections click settings and then advanced tab and finally click change now set your initial and maximum size to 1.5 x your memory(in your case 256) so that would be 384 and click set, this should solve the problem for you

Hi all i have 2 xp pro machines connected via crossover cable, and if i type in the path of an admin share (\\192.168.1.1\c$) i get up the authentication box that has the guest account in it and a password box so i enter the guest password and it lets me connect to that share for as long as i want, providing i dont restart my machine. i was wondering does anyone know how i can do this automatically in a batch file please? (that i would run at logon) thanks in advance

    windows mode

if you right click on an exe you can tell it to run in 640x480 i think, which would be windowed i think try it and let us know what happens
  17. you say you tried using the same account on each machine to eliminate permissions as a possible problem, but did this user have domain admin rights? if not make the user a member and try it again, i fail to see no reason why it shouldnt work
  18. hey personally i would disable dhcp on the hub and create a dhcp scope on the server and that way the server can handle address leases
  19. hi sparkie_be do you know what DHCP is? im not trying to undermine you if you do but if you dont please read below: it basically gives you an IP address automatically, so to check if your laptop has DHCP on or off do the following to check: control panel -> network connections -> right click on local area connection -> properties -> TCP/IP -> properties if "obtain an IP address automatically" is highlighted then DHCP is on if there is an IP in there then it has been manually entered and therefore DHCP is off ok now the problem: in order to get around this try giving your laptop the IP 192.168.1.103 this should bring you onto your network now try to "ping" another machine if you can then you know you have a connection, if not check firewalls they often block pings now try to ping beyond the internal range of (192.168.1.x) e.g your isp's dns servers or a website and see if you get a reply hope this helps you out
  20. could you explain a little better please, from what i understand you brought your laptop home and cant connect to the internet with it, is this right? if so check it doesnt have a static ip, open command prompt and type ipconfig and check if DHCP is enabled if it isnt then go to the network settings and properties of the device and then to the TCP/IP properties and tick "obtain ip address automatically"
