  1. None of that worked, it gets past the ASMS part but now its doing the old reboot loop "setup is restarting". Sorry about so many posts, just trying to keep it organised.
  2. Heh, nope. Get the same ASMS error with v1.2 but this time the error log is not as long... You say check under the Hotfixes section but I am not integrating any hotfixes or a service pack, the section is never selected, but all the CAT, INF and MAN files are not compressed. The problem is I386\ASMS\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN I opened GDIPLUS.MAN (with Notepad2) on an SP2 ISO and get this code... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0"> <assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.Windows.GdiPlus" version="1.0.0.0" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df"/> <file name="GdiPlus.dll" hash="c62f993be17646ed23895955799841c0938d6c7a" hashalg="SHA1"/> </assembly> However if I open it on the SP0 one I get "NUL NUL NUL NUL" an unreadable file! I will simply replace GDIPLUS.MAN from the SP2 ISO with the one in the SP0 ISO and see if it fixes it... Nope - replaced GDIPLUS.MAN and now it says the checksum (which it had the courtesy to at least tell me is a SHA1 checksum) does not match up with GDIPLUS.DLL - because I am using a GDIPLUS.MAN from SP2 on an SP0 install, so I calculated the SP0 GDIPLUS.DLL file with HashCalc, it is... ede6c1ba261f35fff7a712d6633a88573a4a1129 (SP0) (not c62f993be17646ed23895955799841c0938d6c7a) (SP2) Pasted that into the GDIPLUS.MAN file on the SP0 install, lol, I will post back if this works. EDIT: Yes that worked changing the checksum to match but now I get the same error for the 5100 folder! It is no doubt the same error, the MAN file will be NUL NUL NUL NUL etc so I will do the same for the rest of the MAN files, there are only 5 of these MAN files altogether, its not so bad. I will post back if this works, I don't know why the MAN files on the SP0 install say NUL NUL NUL etc (unreadable) and the SP2 ones are fine. EDIT AGAIN: OK these are the .MAN files that are unreadable in the SP0 install... CONTROLS.MAN DEFAULT.MAN GDIPLUS.MAN MSWINCRT.MAN VCRTL.MAN They are in the various sub-directories of ASMS I copied the relevent .MAN files from an SP2 install (that used the same Last Session.ini) and had to change easch SHA1 checksum in each .MAN file by calculating the SHA1 checksum with HashCalc for the SP0 DLL files and changing this checksum in each .MAN file. Some .MAN files have more than one checksum, it was about 7 or 8 checksums in total. Hopefully I fixed it by doing this! nLite seems to make the .MAN files unreadable on an SP0 install The simple answer is "use SP2" but nah, this is an SP0 experiment
  3. Thanks for your response... None of the files are compressed in the ASMS directory, all are CAT, DLL and MAN files... I386\ASMS\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\ I386\ASMS\5100\MSFT\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DEFAULT\ I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\VCRTL\ I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\WINDOWS\COMMON\CONTROLS\ I386\ASMS\7000\MSFT\WINDOWS\MSWINCRT\ I only tried once with nLite v1.2 and got the "nLite had to close" in XP, pah. I will try again. Could it be because I am using a Last Session INI from v1.0.1 on v1.2? A few things are changed like where it used to be "Luna Theme" it is now "Luna Desktop Theme" although in past strips I have never had that pose any problem, like using an XP INI on Server 2003 and vice versa, its never crashed before. My fault for using full XP, knowing Windows I could probably remove Dr. Watson and it wouldn't crash. EDIT: OK I tried again with v1.2 and - no crash this time. It might have been because in the [MAIN] section it still said env = v1.0.1 etc and I am using v1.2. Just deleted the lines in the [MAIN] section and it is fine, it might also have been Kaspersky AV scanning everything that moves so I also disabled KAV whilst I stripped it. Still got to test it again now, see if I get the SXS.DLL error...!
  4. Hyar hyar! bledd, didn't you used to have "You're wrong" in your siggy? Thats still the best siggy you could possibly have, thats right! I found something about RC2: http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/10/03/mi...-rc2-on-friday/ Doesn't say much apart from, its not publically available. Whats up with them (M$) don't they want people to test it or what? Never mind, you're right bledd, it will just appear soon enough, ahem.
  5. I tried stripping XP Professional the original "no service pack" OS. I want to just make one without any service pack to see if it is any faster. I normally integrate SP2 and all hotfixes but I think this bloats it more than "fixes" security issues, yeah most people will disagree but this SP0 thing is an experiment more than anything. I tried with nLite v1.2 first of all and it crashed nLite saying "nLite has encountered an error and needed to close, you're screwed, sorry, you lost it all" like XP has a knack of doing, so I reverted to nLite v1.0.1, which is what I was using my Last Session from in the first place... Using nLite v1.0.1, I can strip it and make an ISO, but I get these errors when Windows is installing... I am sure nLite isn't made to not support XP SP0, or is it? Looking at the Last Session won't help solve it, but no doubt people will still ask for it so here it is... Last_Session.ini
  6. I was initially being a dumbass.... I found how to install PerfectDisk v8.0 silently, so rather than delete this I might as well tell peeps how, even though its very simple.... Get the "setup.exe" Open it with WinRAR. Drag out either x86 (32-Bit version) or x64 (64-Bit version) Inside that x86 or x64 folder you see "PerfectDisk.msi" The install command is as follows... PerfectDisk.msi /quiet /norestart So easy when you know how
  7. I never defrag and should, I know I know, which is why I have ended up here. Diskeeper wins the vote but people complain about "services" and VBS files to sort it if you use VMware and/or nLite? I use VMware and nLite quite a lot so, don't use Diskeeper? Will it interfere with nLite and VMware? I tried O&O, it was OK I guess but people's votes here say Diskeeper. I guess I could read all 24 pages of this thread to find out why Diskeeper is the most popular but that does not necessarily mean its the best, look at Backstreet Boys if you want proof that the most popular isn't always the best So whats the most effective, Diskeeper?! I am trying Perfectdisk (#2 here) and it apparently moves more commonly accessed files to the frint of the drive... O&O boasts features (they boast, not me) other defrag tools do not feature, sheesh, its confusing! I suppose Diskeeper is the best one. BTW I tried the free Auslogics one and O&O still said it was fragmented after using Auslogics, hmmmmm....
  8. Thanks, I really needed this! The older versions supported silent install but 3.5.1 does not? Hmmmmm, mucho appreciated!

  10. This is only for Kaspersky Internet Suite 6.0.0.300 OK I got it to install fine using an AutoIt 2 script, posted below. I still cannot work out why, I can copy the "Bases" (updates) to the right folder after KIS installs and it does not work, I guess these updates register with KIS? I am doing this to copy the Bases... IF NOT EXIST "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP6" MD "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP6" XCOPY "Bases" "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP6\Bases" /i /s /e /r /v /k /f /c /h /y Don't bother with that though, it does not work! To install KIS - this AutoIt 2 script DOES work, however, AutoIt 2 will not run an MSI file so first you need a CMD command script with this... start Kaspersky.msi start /wait install.exe Where "install.exe" is your AutoIt 2 script - this is the script... WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Welcome to the Kaspersky Internet WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Welcome to the Kaspersky Internet Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, End User License Agreement WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, End User License Agreement Send, {TAB} Send, {UP} Send, {ENTER} WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Select destination folder WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Select destination folder Send, {TAB} Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Choose Setup Type WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Choose Setup Type Send, {ENTER} WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Windows Firewall WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Windows Firewall Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Ready to install WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Ready to install Send, i WinWait, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Installation complete WinActivate, Setup Wizard Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Installation complete Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, License key info WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, License key info Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Auto WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Auto Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Run on system start WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Run on system start Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {SPACE} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Enable password protection WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Enable password protection Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Add WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Add Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Applications WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Applications Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Basic protection WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Basic protection Send, n WinWait, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Restart computer WinActivate, Setup Wizard: Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Restart computer Send, {TAB} Send, {SPACE} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, f This assumes you have already put your .key file alongside your Kaspersky.msi installer. The gap in the script there is between the two stages of install screens. Try it - it worked for me!
  11. Nothing works. I used the KIS .mst file with the transforms command. I used Orca to remove the line that makes KIS reboot on its own (after installation when you run KIS for the first time) If I do not remove the line in the MSI file with Orca, KIS will silently install, but it reboots the PC without warning the first time you run KIS. If I do remove the line in the MSI with Orca, then the silent install will not even work, but it will install manually so, its not like Orca has corrupted the MSI or anything. I tried making an AutoIt script, this also does not work but I think I will go back to trying that way again and try to work out where it is going wrong, I did have it working until I put the key file with the MSI, then I had to rework the AutoIt script a little bit and messed it up somehow, it ticks a box where it shouldn't, doesn't untick a box where it should. This Kaspersky is unbelievable - why can they make the best AV but they cannot address this silent install issue? Beats me.

  13. Eureka! So in simple terms..... uid[pn]=['1']; excl[pn]=['2']; AND uid[pn]=['2']; excl[pn]=['1']; So the excl[pn] gets its instruction directly from uid[pn] Thanks for this, it is a great help! B)
  14. BUMP Sorry to be a pain. So is there no way to configure WPI so that if you tick one box, another box will automatically be unticked? This is so - if you have say two firewalls on your WPI, you cannot accidentally install both firewalls? Please help! In C# code this can be done, its like this: if (checkBox2.Checked == true) { checkBox1.Checked = true; checkBox2.Checked = false; } if (checkBox1.Checked == true) { checkBox2.Checked = true; checkBox1.Checked = false; } This is basically saying, there are 2 checkboxes side by side, if the 1st one is ticked, the second one would automatically untick if the 2nd one happened to be ticked and similarly, if the 2nd one is ticked, the 1st one would automatically untick. Of course this is only in C# and WPI is written in Java. I am sure this is just a matter of Java code! Please help!
  15. Sorry for asking what is probably a stupid question but lets say, for instance, you have these two firewalls on your WPI... Sygate Firewall Tiny Firewall Now, if you install two firewalls - thats just silly, but in the WPI you could in theory tick both boxes. So my question is - how can you set it so "IF" one firewall is ticked, the other one will automatically be unticked? I am sure WPI does this, I vaguely remember it being able to do this but I can't remember the code! It could be 2 firewalls, 2 antiviruses etc etc. How could you do it if you had 2 firewalls, 2 antiviruses? It isn't even firewalls and antiviruses I am planning to use its just the question of how can you set it so if a box is ticked, you can tick another box and it unticks the 1st box to prevent you accidentally installing 2 firewalls or 2 antiviruses?
  16. Make sure you can see your hidden system files... Boot into XP and... Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View [tab] Click the button (its a radio button) next to Show hidden files and folders Untick the box next to Hide Protected Operating System Files Now go onto the root of your C drive (or the drive Windows is installed to) Open the file boot.ini You should see a section called [operating systems] NOW, BE VERY VERY CAREFUL! Just to make sure in notepad, click format at the top and make sure wordwrap is turned OFF. You should have 2 lines under [operating systems] - one will say "Windows XP Professional" and one will say "Windows 2000 Professional" Remove the line (only the LINE) with Windows 2000 Professional on it. I have to warn you, if you delete the wrong line your system will not boot! Close the boot.ini file, saving the changes. If you have XP Professional it would be something like this but don't copy this code... [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
  17. If you remove IE that happens when you click an URL. To fix that (to open with a browser of choice like Firefox or Opera etc) do this... 01 - Start > Control Panel > Folder Options 02 - Click the "File Types" tab. 03 - Highlight the fourth IE icon in the list, it is called... (NONE) URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol 04 - Click "Advanced" button 05 - Highlight "open" in the Actions list 06 - Click "Remove" button and click "Yes" 07 - Click "New" 08 - Type "open" into the first box 09 - Click "Browse" 10 - Navigate to your browser of choice in Program Files (Firefox or Opera, etc) 11 - Click OK on that box and OK on the next box. I don't know of any registry tweak to fix this but I am sure thats possible (pre-configure for Firefox or Opera). ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're opening a file and it says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." Thats wierd if it is not happening with URL's then what file are you trying to open and getting that message? You don't get "Open with..." on right clicking URL's, thats whats so annoying about it, thanks M$ Thats why you have to do all those steps above. If it is not an URL, I can't help you! I have never seen that on anything other than URL's when IE6 is removed.
  18. Did you remove "User Account Pictures" under "Operating System Options" in nLite?
  19. Maybe ERD Commander works in Vista? That can reset permissions far quicker and easier than Windows
  20. Sorry I can't answer the NET Framework 2.0 question but how did you fix that 0xc0000142 error? I am not making a PE but a stripped out XP and it keeps saying "Setup is restarting" in an endless loop. Even MS say the cause is unknown, typical MS its their OS, if they don't know then who the hell does! You do, so tell me! Please B)
  21. I used the Custom INI file from the first post, all goes well apart from this at the end of the install.. Is there any INI setting I could add after the serial like REBOOT=0 or anything?
  22. This is for people who have been using nLite for a while and are used to what each component is/does, but beginners can also use it too! I spent a while to make a directory maker that creates a root directory called [nLite Size Comparison] on your C drive (%SystemDrive%) with every nLite option contained within it, like so... Then, inside for example the Applications folder, you have this... So, if your aim is to get XP down to a small size, by using this code (that makes the directory [nLite Size Comparison]) you can quickly just click inside a folder and see right away by sorting the directories by name, biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest. You can have this directory open with nLite on 1024 x 768 it fits OK at the side. I did not include "Languages" or "Keyboards" because most languages are the same size (about 1Mb each?) and keyboards dont really take up any space at all and might as well be left in. Just copy this code into a new Notepad file and rename as a .CMD file, then of course, run the file... 23. Not sure how AutoIt3 works but in AutioIt 2 if you run the "AutoIt Reveal Mode" it shows all the window titles and window text. Doing this is far more reliable than using the mouse, at least ov v2. I think on v3 you're OK because it can lock out the user from the mouse, I mean in v2 if you moved the mouse that was it, it threw the whole thing out. Something like... WinWait, Window Title v1.0b, Welcome to setup WinActivate, Window Title v1.0b, Welcome to setup Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, n WinWait, Window Title v1.0b, Please choose the destination WinActivate, Window Title v1.0b, Please choose the destination Send, {TAB} Send, {TAB} Send, n etc etc (or in some cases etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc, lol) Where tab just moves to the correct button and sends "n" which would be "Next" button. I never use the mouse but then, I never use AutoIt3, was too scared of all that new code Yes, just use the v2 to v3 converter I know, but it never works!
  24. Thanks for the reply, I thought this was a no hoper, I didn't search hard enough it seems! Found this... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=432732 This is all I need to do, somehow get this crazy 7z archive to extract the theme Because its 2Mb compressed or 30Mb if its not, big difference huh. Then apply the theme unattended so after reboot (which it does anyway) it will be set up that way with the theme already as default, fingers crossed.
  25. I can already install WindowBlinds unattended, so all you have to do then is double click the .WBA file (the theme) and then double click the WindowBlinds system tray icon and it applies the theme, but is it possible to add the settings to the registry as Windows is installing (and copy the theme over simply by putting it in $Progs) to set the theme file up as default so Windows loads that way? I tried it by exporting the whole stardock folder from the registry, but it has entries in the users CLSID which is random and besides, if you export these it does not export the numbers anyway, just exports an exact copy of the entries in HKCU It seems impossible to integrate a WindowBlinds theme as default, but so far I think I have always found the solution somewhere here on MSFN I am only asking because I have searched Google, searched MSFN, it seems to be one of those things no one has managed to work out... yet
