  1. Use BCDW2. It will allow you to boot the ubcd iso image.
  2. Forgort to sk you. When you start a new copilation are yopu selecting Data-DVD & not DataCD ? It may sound like a stupid question but that is howero works If you try to burn a CD image to a DVD blank it throws up an error. Even a <700 mb DVD image will not burn correctly to a CD. No such problems with Magic ISO.
  3. What you are facing is a hardware problem. You have different lasers to write Cds & DVDs. Even reading lasers are different. So you have 4 different operations taking place. Reading + writing CDs & Reading / writing DVDs. I have had difficulties with different combinations of errors. The first thing you could try is cutting down on the writing speed. I have stopped using CDR & DVD-R long time ago. The RW versions are so cheap it saves me bundle. If I can reuse them 3 times & have recoverd my money. The next thing I would suggest is use a good drive cleaner, not one of those chinese cheapos. Get a good Japanese one. Mkes hell of a lot of difference. As a final remedy borrow a dvd writer from a friend. I can almost assure you that the error in not with any release of Nero 6.x.x.x.
  4. There is also a floppy boot image on the net that will furnish ntldr, ntdetect & boot.ini with something like 10 different options to boot a system that has one of these errors on the hdd.
  5. Open Nero Burning Rom. On the opening screen select cancel. From the menu select Recorder -> Burn Image. Select your ISO. Select your options on the next screen & click burn. On the next screen of teh actual process you can select verify if you wish to. You must keep in mind that Nero has a problem in burning a CD image to a DVD. It treats both differently.
  6. You can use a batch file for loading a wall paper changer/ slideshow software for normal daily use or on specific days set your own wall paper. You may not be able to do this with 4dos but could try 4nt. You can also replace cmd.exe with 4nt.exe as your command processor.
  7. Exactly my point. If your firewall was turned on & spyware/malware signatures up to date you wouldn't get this message without warning from Firewall. would you? Since it happens during the boot precess itself, it is on the pc aready. Just to make doubly sure disconnect your internet & then boot. You will know where it is.
  8. Visit MagicISO site & download MagicDisk. Its a free software that can mount your iso image. It can also compress the iso to save on disk space. Works very well.
  9. Reading the text under the OEM licence it just goes on to show that one can buy the single copy, assemble own pc & install it. He has no recourse but himself for support.
  10. i try ur way But it don't work i googled alot (for 5h) till i find that there is no DOS driver for Realtek AC97 But i find a DOS player that can define ur sound card it (i dunno how it do this action) all u need is that .exe file and ur songs to play them but this player play music and no video or pic check this ================================================================= Mpxplay is a DOS based (32-bit) audio player, developed in OpenWatcom C v1.3 . Perhaps it will then work under dos.
  11. You should have opted for Bing. It has all the functions of Image + it can create incremental image sets. I have been using it for 4 years now. It has saved my b**t on many occassions. I can do all the experimenting I want on new OS / Installations without disturbing my current working partitions.
  12. Does this "Lite" version allow you to add boot image? My experience tells me that lite versions are the ones included by the oem drive manufactureres & do not have provision for creating bootable cd/dvd.s I am happy with Nero 6.6.x.x. Compilation files are very small but unfortunately it cannot deal with extra long file names or path. Magic ISO does not have this limitation but only creates ISOs & takes up a lot of HDD space.
  13. I use BCDW 1.50 z and 2.01a with a variety of boot options available. I compile these to 200 mb 8 cm CDs which I can carry in my shirt pocket.
  14. So long as you want a specific wallpaper on specific days you can do it with a startup batch file. Downlaod free 4dos version 7.5. Look up the month, date, day, year functions & variables. You can set your specific file as wall paper when your conditions are met.
  15. Download free "4dos 7.5"" from JP software. Go through their help file. What you want to achieve would be a child's play with it.
  16. This is not a simple matter. Apart from everything else the frame rates for the 2 formats are different. How would you add extra non existant frames ? Fortunately for us here in India most of the TVs sold can handle both formats without a problem.
  17. What you need will depend very much on the reason of not booting XP & the error messages that you mey be getting.
  18. The problem is very definitely with your card reader /writer. What I am wondering about is why are you connecting your PPC to the usb port on theis reader inplace of the PC itself? For the card reader to have a downstream usb port it has to have usb hub chip. On cheap cards they use dicey chipsets which can give you problems. Secondly the drive power required may not be available through this downstream port. If you need to frequently plug/unplug the PPC cradle/cable you might as well get an A male to A female extension cable, about a couple of feet long to bring up the connection up front. I have been handling PPC with USB interface for more than 5 years. This kind of problems have arose on non powered hubs & extra long cables. Never when directly coinnected to the PC. It has never been ActiveSynch.
  19. You are mistaken. Here in India Microsoft is very definitely selling OEM version of windows to be installed by independent pc assemblers. This is a very standard practice in UK where you can walk into a store, selct all the components & the shop will deliver a fully functional Windows machine. The limitation is that Microsoft does not provide any support but one has to revert to the PC selling store. When you talk about specific OEM like Dell, IBM or HP the customosation is done by these OEMs, not by Microsoft. You can't buy these CDs either. For all you know they might be lecensing the software ar something like US$20/= to US$25/= per PC.
  20. One thing you must remember when installing fresh copy of xp is to download latest firewall, antivirus & malware protectors which should be incorporated in your installation itself. Before visiting any web site you must update the malware & av signatures & activate all protections. This is definitely a scare tactit type of message. The best way would be to get ewido spyware protection & scan your system. You will find the culprit.
  21. Try clone_maxx from convar germany. Will also run from floppy. There is another old time one called PHDX if you can find it. It can clone even over notework of parallel port cable.
  22. Something isnt right. If you have filesystem error you can't defrag until you run "chkdsk /f". What you might try is non destructive hddregnerator if there are intermittent problems with reading some sectors.
  23. You are a perfect candidate for a 2 window file manager like Total Commander. In move mode it will halt where it detects an error in the source file. You can manually deselect it. In copy mode on the first error it will prompt for your response offering you 9 different options. If you select "skip all" it will copy all files where there is no error on reading the source. After this copying process is completed you simply run "synchronise". It will show you the files in the source directory which have not been copied. I hardly ever use the built in file explorer except in very typical situations where I need a second copy of the same file. Try it you will love it.
  24. The above command will give you the syntax for using the set command. You can redirect this to a text file for printing out for ready reference for using in batch files. The see all the values, correct command would be simly set -> enter in a command window. To get all the variables simply run "set >> set.txt". Then youhave all the variables & values in a text file which can be printed out for easy reference.
  25. They are environmental variables but not leftovers from the DOS era, they are used even today by most systems working at the command prompt, even Linux & Unix where they originated. You need them because your %systemdrive% may not necessarily be "c:" if you chose a different partition for installation. Same holds true for other variables too.
