  1. Having looked at the source file, I found at the bottom of the source file this appeared <script language="javascript" src="http://tomshardware.uk.intellitxt.com/intellitxt/front.asp?IPID=2403&MK=5&kwpn=2"></SCRIPT> I therefore added 127.0.0.1 tomshardware.uk.intellitxt.com to my hosts file Closing IE, then reopening (for changes in HOSTS file to take effect), and clicking on your link again, the intellitxt green underlines had disappeared as have the popup ads. Presumably you would need to do something similar for each site that uses these.
  2. I doubt that you can do so. Whereas the custom dictionary is a simple text file, the MS Office dictionaries are not. You could try to open the appropriate .lex file in a hex editor to examine its structure, but whether you can add to the file I don't know.
  3. In the right pane, expand the Name column so you can see the full entries (drag the right edge of the column to the right), then scroll down until you find the entry with the path and file name (%systemroot% is equivalent to C:\Windows); when you find the correct entry right click on the name, click delete.
  4. Nice, but I just told NAV to ignore CMDOW
  5. Possibly http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822430/en-us
  6. I use it for Analysing experimental data and making graphs General maths (in combination with Mathcad) Budgets and financial control for meetings Membership/attendance lists CD catalogue Household inventories and purchases (e.g. wine cellar) I dare say much of the non maths uses could be done better in Access, but for my needs Excel is easier. ASAP utilities is a very useful free addin to extend Excel functionality http://www.asap-utilities.com/
  7. They show in lighter shade on the screen, but will print in full colour (well, they do if you have a colour printer).
  8. Thought of looking in Word help? :-) About backgrounds and watermarks Backgrounds are used in Web layout view or in a Web browser to create a more interesting background for online viewing. Backgrounds are displayed in Web layout view only and aren't designed for printing. Watermarks are text or pictures that appear behind document text. They often add interest or identify the document status, such as marking a document as a "Draft." Watermarks are intended for printed documents. Use gradients, patterns, pictures, solid colors, or textures for backgrounds. Gradients, patterns, pictures, and textures are tiled, or repeated, to fill the page. When you save a document as a Web page, the textures and gradients are saved as JPEG files and the patterns are saved as GIF files. You can see watermarks in print layout view or on a printed document. If you use a picture, you can lighten, or wash it out, so that it doesn't interfere with document text. If you use text, you can select from built-in phrases, or enter your own. Document backgrounds are designed to be viewed on the screen and not printed. The background that you create by using the Background command on the Format menu will not print. To add a printable background, borders, or shading to your page, use the Printed Watermark command (by pointing to Background on the Format menu) or the Borders and Shading command on the Format menu. My suggestion: If you want a solid colour watermark, use a graphics package (paint will do) and make a picture of the colour you want, the same size as your printed page and use that as the watermark picture, with scale set to 100%. Or you can make it some other size and use auto, but that does not fill the page.
  9. System requirements do not mention Media Center as anh OS on which IE7 beta 2 will run http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/ab...qs/default.mspx
  10. If you have problems with the validation tool not recognising (what you think is) your genuine OS or Office, try http://forums.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?siteid=25 I had a problem with my Office validation, which the MS people there sorted out very quickly (turned out to be a corrupt data.dat file; deleting that and reactivating Office fixed it). There is also a link in one of the posts for a diagnostics tool.
  11. Well if you want the latest version it's 3.1v2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en
  12. You probably don't need .NET Framework 1.0 (which runs alongside 1.1 and 2.0) as pretty well all apps built using 1.0 will work with 1.1 installed. However I have several apps built on 1.1 which will not work with just 2.0 installed. So I have 1.1 (with its SP1) and 2.0.
  13. No, not disable, but use details view, they don't show.
  14. As you're in UK, you would not get urge, nor any music stores with this beta. Only in US.
  15. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm click on R, scroll down to 'run command missing'
  16. No need to add another one from another PC. When you delete Normal.dot, it gets recreated next time you open Word.
  17. One possibility: If you don't have or uninstalled Windows Messenger, then in Outlook, Tools, Options, Other tab make sure 'enable instant messaging' is unchecked. If checked, that can cause Outlook to take a long time to load.
  18. You can add other search engines, for example Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; add search MS Knowledgebase by KB number (just type the number in the search box) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\MSKBnumber] "DisplayName"="MS KB number" "URL"="http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid={SearchTerms}" ;add search MS knowledgebase by string (type the string in the search box) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\MSKBString] "DisplayName"="MS KB String" "URL"="http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?query={SearchTerms}" ;search using Dogpile [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\Dogpile] "DisplayName"="Dogpile" "URL"="http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl/search/web/{SearchTerms}"
  19. Have a look at the Free MS Shared computers toolkit. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx A good discussion thread with some comparison with deepfreeze is at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15352689~days=9999
  20. At least for Office 2002, not everything is installed by default, but in add/remove, Office, click Change, you get the option of installing additional components. I don't have Office 2003, but I expect it's the same, in which case you could try that.
  21. For Sagem modem, which I also have (F@st 800 840), I found a long time ago (September 2003) on a French site, a fix is to change the start for the service from automatic to manual. As it does not appear in services.msc, you need to manually edit the registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Services\ADILOADER] <---- service that starts adildr.sys "Start"=dword:00000002 <----- automatic change to 3 for manual. You should no longer get the messages, and the modem functions normally. According to one poster there, adildr.sys driver seems to be important only just after you plug-in fast 800 modem and is required only for proper hardware recognition. So if you unplug the modem, you may need to start the service before you plug it back in (not sure, I always keep mine plogged in).
  22. WD Help, About WD: there is a check for updates button there.
  23. I also got an empty player, but then I noticed in the ZA icon that the video was being downloaded. This took an age, but then clicking on play, the video played
  24. Do you happen to have Roxio Easy Media Creator site 8? If so, this thread: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=151 The other thing you could try in WMP 10, Tools, Options, Player tab, check connect to internet
  25. According to http://www.freelists.org/archives/wintips/...4/msg00000.html you can add a /q switch to the shortcut target line (but for Office XP, at least you need to make your own shorcuts to the exe files rather than use the default ones, which have the target line greyed out) Example for Word XP to open without splash screen, target is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE" /q Tested this, it works.
