  1. Ok so far fine on the 8.5.0.1032, the samsung f1 drive I moved to the jmicron controller since it isnt liking the intel.
  2. 8.2.0.1001 is now latest on intel site hmm so what did they do with 8.2.3.1001
  3. fernando I will put the troublesome drive on jmicron controller for now probably and then go back to the newer drivers.
  4. it might be a false alarm, I noticed only one drive seemed to be playing up, my newest one the samsung f1 hd, a quick google indicates this drive doesnt like command queueing which would explain why I have had problems.
  5. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver package v8.2.3.1001 is not a Beta version. It has been officially released by Intel and digitally signed by Microsoft. If you want to use the older textmode drivers v7.8.0.1012, just look into my guide. Whithin the chapter "1. Preparation" take the drivers of point c) instead of a). ok thanks, I navigated intels site as you said and it does show that version, their site I find a nightmare. Of course that version is unstable tho on my system with write caching enabled, I dont know about when write caching is off. So be careful. These 8.x versions are the first ones that allow write caching on non raided drives so is a new feature in the matrix storage drivers. had a look at the known issues file and it included this so I wonder if this was it. "2554680 File write performance degraded with Gen II drives and Cache On Vista, Windows XP"
  6. yeah dont need usb support, I am not a fan of vmware after last time I used it, the network driver stuff it puts on killed my entire lan. O_o virtual pc I find very fast it runs almost as fast as a dedicated pc.
  7. guys some more feedback on thse drivers, although the 8.x versions are much faster and utilise write caching for single drives, they have hit stability problems on my machine. I first got random pauses when copying large files, sometimes the pauses became hangs and I had to reboot. Upgraded to the very latest driver which fixed the pauses but then after a few days got a iastor has timed out in my event log, this coincided with another hang. When I checked the intel website the latest driver they have for download is 7.8 so it seems these new drivers are not release quality but beta drivers, so if I am right can the OP please have links for the 7.8 and 8.x floppy files so can use the stable version if want to? thanks
  8. sorry I misunderstood yes it wont be sold for much longer, but will of course be supported long enough in that people can go from XP to Windows 7 bypassing vista.
  9. XP is around for some years yet as I understand it. Have looked into XP64 is there any downsides, compatability for example?
  10. I use virtual pc, what am I missing by not using vmware?
  11. interesting, time for MS to put the kernel on to xp 32 then although I guess not that simple.
  12. As topic says basically microsoft made a hotfix for XP 64bit to enable compound tcp feature, also the same for windows server 2003 however XP 32bit has no such luxury, hotfix here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949316 I am gutted as is a very nice feature, is there some technical reason why the hotfix is 64bit only?
  13. I use nlite, RVMi seems to be held in higher regard but if you use nlite to do other stuff to cd such as removing components you effectively remove a step from the process as nlite also handles integration. Since I am used to nlite I always use it and cannot think of any specific problems I have come across that are caused by nlite alone. Occasionally people will make addons that are not compatible with nlite but I dont use those addons so not a problem for me.
  14. Hi, this isnt probably anyway related to nlite but I post in this section as lots of people making cds here. Basically I noticed this behaviour on a SP3 cd, which I happen to make via nlite and testing in virtual pc. Although the SP3 is from the msdn image. If I try to close a command prompt with the top right X it doesnt work and says command prompt not responding, yet command prompt is working fine and can close via typing exit. This doesnt happen on my desktop SP2 pc. Any ideas? is this a known SP3 or virtual pc issue?
  15. these 2 hotfixes are not listed but once were can I ask why they removed from list? they both not superceded KB944110 and KB942264
  16. My sisters computer which was only freshly installed last week with a integrated SP3 cd now cannot run windows updates. She said she only last ran it a day ago and evidently this is true as I see IE7 is on there now not IE6. When I ran windows update there was an error code and when I googled the code I was told it meant BITS and auto updates services not running. BITS is running and auto updates set to disabled even tho in control panel updates are set to automatic. Now for something even stranger. If I set auto updates to either manual or auto and then start the service it fails with error 1058. So another google tells me one of 2 scenarios. 1 - Service not enabled for hardware profile - checked this and it is enabled in the only hardware profile. 2 - possible virus. I googled the virus and did manual checks for tell tale signs of that particular virus and they were not there, plus there is up to date firewall and anti virus on the machine. Right now I am leaning towards a virus diagnosis tho as there is some other things I noticed. I tried to start a spybot sd scan to check for spyware as a cause, but the scan refuses to start saying I need to run a update, when I run a update it says no updates available is already up to date, again something I never witnessed before. Plus computer is more sluggish since I last seen it.
  17. wow thanks for the update info, even navigating intels site normally I couldnt find the 8.3 drivers, I had to follow the link you provided. I will try these out but I am so happy with the 8.0 right now.
  18. I can tell you that latest driver is finally acting how it should. I started using my ich7 controller about a year ago and I think was a 6.7 driver then, the driver actually turned off all write caching for all drives connected to the ich7 controller and also for all drives on my jmicron controller. So basically the pattern was write cache if you using raid otherwise the only way to use write cache was to use the ide compatible mode which uses microsoft generic drivers and no sata features. The 7.8 driver stopped turning off write cache on the jmicron so was an improvement and I think forced on the basic write cache mode for drives on the ich7 controller bit still could not be toggled on/off via device manager. Finally this 8.0 driver allows full control of write cache in device manager and if using dskcache tool can enable power protected write cache on all connected drives. So intel finally got a proper functioning driver, if you google ich7 +write cache you see what I mean in the past people complaining ghosted out write cache tick box when using ahci/raid mode.
  19. not tested it yet on the pc that has the intel controller only in virtual pc to make sure the cd actually works, the first time I downloaded your 64bit drivers ooops and I got a corrupt sys error on the driver, but now with 32bit that error is gone. I should be testing on this pc (different drive but on intel controller) before end of the week hopefully. Thanks for having the drivers as it would have been a pain to extract from intels floppy iso.
  20. thanks for this, I used the divshare link, rapidshare has to be the worst place for file hosting I have come across. I will put up a proper link if its allowed, no anti robot, delays etc. just click and download.
  21. Nice guide even tho its an old post I will raise some points. Intel controller in raid mode does not need a raid array and intel actually reccomend this for single drive configs as well as raid since its the same as ahci except it will support future raid use without an OS reinstall. I added my intel drivers on my new sp3 cd and I notice nlite is telling me I should disable the use of OEM Preinstall $OEM$ folder which I have always been using fine in the past and I dont remember nlite having this warning before, is there a known real problem by integrating text drivers at the same time as using OEM preinstall? --edit-- I misunderstood it says not to use it when using f6 method, I wonder if thats the problem the other poster had then.
  22. cluberti not multiple people same person logged in twice on same desktop. Windows server supports that?
  23. this may be it googled for it http://www.tweakvista.com/article39124.aspx setting the orientation to 0 if its not it I will try and find on my vista box when I next login.
  24. I do like cleartype but I disabled it for performance reasons, some apps such as mirc slow down badly with it on.
