  1. the trace doesn't show any spikes except this small nVIDIA spikes: Total = 2524 for module nvlddmkm.sys Elapsed Time, > 256 usecs AND <= 512 usecs, 173, or 6.85% Elapsed Time, > 512 usecs AND <= 1024 usecs, 5, or 0.20% Total, 2524 You use version 9.18.13.1407 - 314.07). Try the latest Beta driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-314.21-beta-driver.html Also, please don't run this ugly tool. This DPC checker was build for XP! Use LatencyMon instead!
  2. try to capture the xperf file.
  3. MS disables Aero Glass when you play games. I think he will also try to implement this.
  4. you must use the uninstaller from here to get rid of the driver: http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads/
  5. do you use Demon tools? The driver causes this UNKNOWN usage. Remove it. If possible, give me the xperf file.
  6. do you have a different SSD which you can use for testing purpose? Maybe the SSD has an issue that no tool can detect.
  7. I posted here, how to use xperf:
  8. run the xperf commands I posted and upload the zipped ETL file.
  9. the old Visual C++ 6 works in Win98.
  10. The KB2770917 fails if you run a software called nlsX86cc (Nalpeiron Licensing Service) runs in background. YOu must first install this update: KB2792476 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2792476 If the Iarge works for other VMs, your Crucial M4 SSD has an issue. Update the Firmware and test it with a diag tool from Crucial.
  11. ok, the Kernel, SMSS.exe, WinInit.exe and are all busy loading all CAT files and generating the hashes (ci.dll!CiValidateImageHeader) from the folder C:\Windows\system32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\. I've seen this in Windows 7 where you have too many MUI Packs installed . How many do you use?
  12. no, your delay comes from Entering the Password. Your HDD is fine.
  13. the CPU is busy all the time because the the Kernel is doing some wired things. Run this command: xbootmgr -trace boot -traceFlags BASE+CSWITCH+DRIVERS+POWER -stackwalk profile this captures more data, so that I can see what the kernel is doing. Zip and upload this new file.
  14. try to avoid this. Use the fastBoot as much as possible. Windows Windows is so slow, it is often a damaged HDD. Add -postBootDelay 300 to the command line and try to start the applications after boot. After you have captured the hangs, stop the bootlogging, zip and upload the ETL file.
  15. So you only get the net fastStartup when using the command? this is wired. The startup ties should be now fast all the time (unless you need to do an old reboot after installing Updates for example).
  16. make a new trace and upload the ETL file (zip it to reduce the size)
  17. but it looks like you use a virtual DVD drive or a software which adds GEARAspiWDM (CD filter driver). remove this Gear driver and look if the boot is faster.
  18. Create a new shortcut on the desktop with this commandline: C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /hybrid /t 0 now, make a rightclick and pin it to startscreen. When you try to shutdown, click this link on the startscreen. Is this faster?
  19. By default Windows 8 will always use the new fast boot. How do you shutdown the PC?
  20. The GTX5XX cards get very hot. Try to add a 3rd party cooler to the GPU.
  21. you're in the member group so I would say you're already verified.
  22. Windows uses the new startup when you select Shutdown from the UI (charms-Bar -> settings->On/off). If you use a custom tile which calls shutdown.exe make sure you add the /hybrid switch to the command line.
  23. fastBoot is fine: <timing bootDoneViaExplorer="3278" bootDoneViaPostBoot="20778" osLoaderDuration="0" postBootRequiredIdleTime="10000" postBootDisturbance="7500" 3s to the UI and fully booted in 10s. Try to avoid the traditional boot (only select reboot if you really need).
