  1. Hey, AllUsers > Start Menu > Programs > Startup laze.
  2. Hello, Place the registry file and a batch file to add it to the registry in the startup folder of AllUsers. laze.
  3. Hello, What if you stick them in AllUsers? laze.
  4. Hello, To reiterate what I said earlier, all 'HKEY-USERS' references should be removed. They do not apply the tweak to 'all users', to do this remove all references to 'HKEY_USERS' and apply the tweak within cmdlines.txt at T-12. laze.
  5. Hi gugutz, I'm not, only because I'm at the 'testing' stage but eventually I will - yes. I don't actually understand what values I need to change in order to enable/disable certain tweaks. The example I posted was taken from another source and is not my own. Can someone please explain the values, 1 = enabled? 0 disabled? That would be my best guess, but why do certain visual settings have more than one value in the example I've used? I like Sonic's method as his tweaks are applied to the local machine, meaning they can be set at any point and tested too but it isn't 'quite' what I'm looking for and needs tweaking slightly, although I wouldn't know how. laze.
  6. Hello! I will explain, however, it's the holidays right now and I'm a bit short on time. I promise I'll explain as soon as I get a chance, but to sum it up 'for now', it's just basic batch scripting. laze.
  7. Hello, Does the nLite developer browse these forums, perhaps he'd be willing to share the registry tweak I seek? laze.
  8. Hello! Thank you, worked perfectly. laze.
  9. Hello, If you'd like this tweak to be applied to all users created, apply it at cmdlines.txt and remove all references to HKEY_USERS as they're redundant. This is not a response to the problem you're experiencing kandurak, but there must be a program-specific tweak to disable sounds in the application you're installing. This tweak is for windows sounds. laze.
  10. Update: Rather than delete the offending shortcuts, renaming them has the same effect - they're removed from the Start-Menu's frequently accessed list. laze.
  11. Fantastic - thank you very much. laze.
  12. Hello, We have "%AllUsersProfile%", I don't suppose there's an equivalent "%CurrentUserProfile%"? laze.
  13. Hi, The effects I'd like to apply are: Your registry file would be perfect if it included/excluded the above. If you have time, could you modify it and re-post purely for my selfish benefit, heh? laze.
  14. Hi Sonic, Thank you for your reply. My installation initially logs in as Administrator, a cleanup.bat is ran and the system is rebooted, at which point it auto logs in as User. If i run the effects.exe from cleanup.bat, the settings will not be applied to the User account when I reboot, will they? And I don't want to add them to a batch file in the User's startup folder, because then I'd need to add a second reboot before they took. I'm happy to apply the tweaks through cmdlines.txt (you mean runonceex, right?) but what are the disable/enable values for those I've listed if it's impossible to test them once Windows has been installed. laze.
  15. Hello, The only material I can find on doing this is here: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects] "VisualFXSetting"=dword:00000003 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\CursorShadow] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DragFullWindows] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DropShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\FontSmoothing] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListBoxSmoothScrolling] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewAlphaSelect] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewWatermark] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\MenuAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\SelectionFade] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TaskbarAnimations] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\Themes] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TooltipAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 And none of the above work. Does anyone have some updated tweaks that allow you set the visual effects one by one? Thanks. laze.
  16. Hello, I've looked at the collection of registry tweaks in "Registry Tweaks PT 4 beta update" but cannot find what I'm looking for. The attached file includes a tweak to remove 'Search...' from drive icons, as well as from folders, but no tweak to remove 'Search...' from My Computer's right-click menu. This tweak is available in nLite but I'm trying not to use it, purely because, I'd rather not as the tweaks applied are somewhat permanent unless you create a fresh source. Does anyone have this tweak on file? Thanks. laze.
  17. Hello, With further testing I've been able to determine the only part of the above tweak needed in order for it to work is: ;Adds "Empty Recycling Bin" to the right click menu (conflicts with 7-Zip cascaded menu) [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Empty Recycle Bin] @="{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" When used alone, it does not conflict with 7-Zip's cascaded menus, hooray. laze.
  18. Hello, None of the solutions suggested in this thread worked. I decided it must be down to a conflicting registry tweak having experienced a similar problem with the right-click context menu before. I've identified this tweak to be the cause: ;Adds "Empty Recycling Bin" to the right click menu [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}] @="Empty Recycle Bin" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Empty Recycle Bin] @="{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Empty Recycle Bin] @="{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Empty Recycle Bin] @="{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Empty Recycle Bin] @="{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" When applied after or before an installation of 7-Zip the cascaded menu no longer works. My next question is this: Does anyone have an alternative method to add "Empty Recycling Bin" to the right-click context menu that doesn't conflict with 7-Zip? Also, I've noticed that my installation of 7-Zip doesn't associate itself with *.rar, *.7z, *.zip etc. automatically, what hive are the file associations of 7-Zip stored in and does anyone have a pre-made file-assocation registry tweak for 7-Zip? Thanks guys. laze.
  19. Hi Marthax, I have done as you've described, I will test my installation and report back. Thanks - laze.
  20. Hey jbm, Thank you very much :-). laze.
  21. Hello, What value would result in 10 frequently used programs being listed? laze.
  22. Hello, I'm not at home, so do not have access to my source (including my registry tweaks) but I can confirm a number of IE6 registry tweaks also work in IE7. Your best bet is to install IE7 and apply your tweaks, noting down which tweaks work and which don't. laze :-)
  23. Hello, Applying it to the current user if done through cmdlines.txt will apply it to all users created from that point onward. The reason being, at the point it's applied, the current user is in fact the Default User as no other accounts have been created and each new user account is based on the Default User account. :-) laze.
  24. Hello, After further investigation I have more information to share. With Event Manager open (System), I recieve the following errors each time I open Windows Live Messenger. DCOM got error "193 is not a valid Win32 application. " attempting to start the service usnsvc with arguments "" in order to run the server: {736F8997-C651-4C45-BC43-8AF8369890F1} For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. And The Messenger Sharing USN Journal Reader service service failed to start due to the following error: Messenger Sharing USN Journal Reader service is not a valid Win32 application. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Each error occurs twice, in the above order, one after the other (I imagine this is because Microsoft have coded it so that messenger makes a second attempt if unsuccessful the first time). Can you shed some light please Shark007? As Windows Live Messenger continues to report "Your sharing folders aren't yet available, please try again in a minute" and the problem is clearly related to the above Event Manager entries. Thank you. laze.
  25. Hello Yzöwl, I am, and always will be, a polite member. From the beginning I've been grateful for all the help I've recieved and continue to recieve from MSFN and it's members. I will not respond to your provocations any further. Kind regards, laze :-) Ps. Please close this thread as my problem has been addressed, thank you.
