    Nlite in Vista x64

@mara- i beg to differ..the nlite issue and wmp11 issue didnt start until i installed sp1 on vista.. [rant] as a side note, has anyone else noticed that 'search' is no longer in any context menu in vista sp1? and it's been removed from the start menu as well. Sure, the old quick search is still there, but where did the rest of it go? I find that i'm unable to search in a specific folder anymore, and it's missing whether sp1 is installed on top of rtm, or i use the sp1 pre-integrated iso from msdn. i'm not looking for a way to add it back, i'm just wondering what msft was thinking. Now the only way to get that search window is window key+F.. [/rant]

    Nlite in Vista x64

i get similar errors every 3rd or 4th time i run nlite, the file in the message changes each time. Vista sp1 x64 here, with .net 3.5 installed. it might be unrelated, but booogy's wmp11 slipstreamer hits a wall quite often as well. The source isn't hosed after it, as nothing had been modified yet, so i just exit and run the program again until i get a success. both the nlite and wmp11 slipstreamer issues occur regardless of whether i'm using xp, server 2k3, or xp x64 as my source. never had this problem before installing sp1. Perhaps a problem with .net?
  3. from what i've seen, there's no difference in regard to cpu/mem usage whether you disable or remove a specific service. If you just disable the service, it will still take up disk space, but that's it.
  4. i'd recommend spinrite. I've had success reviving drives i thought were dead, and keeping my other drives in good maintenance. -joll
  5. all i know is that it's not a vlite bug, it's probly something u either left in or removed that's causing it. i'll attach mine and let u compare it to what u remember when u ran vlite. other than that, i dunno what to tell ya. -joll Last_Session.ini
  6. yes, i did skip user creation on that. tested it in a vm too. i didnt get a prompt to create a new user. the last session.ini is in the vlite directory (it keeps a history of them), and a copy is also made in the root of the install, so if u still have the burned dvd or the iso, it's in there. -joll
  7. i havent seen that in the 1.1 vlite beta, and i just made a vlite'd ultimate x64 for my dad. it might help to see ur last session.ini. and please, post it as an attachment, don't copy and paste it all in ur post.. i really wish ppl would stop doing that... -joll
  8. i'm running x64 ultimate here, and the fix works for me and just so it's clear, is the problem fixed by integrating the hotfixes first, then running vlite on it? even if i remove a few of the components listed previously?
  9. @Inc0gnit0 I think it should look something like this...(the C: drive icon)
  10. @ThunderNor does it look like the attached image? cuz that's part of the visual style, i think...
  11. @ThunderNor I had that same problem. The workaround I found is to kill the drive status installer, then setup should finish normally. I thought that would mess that part up, but the status bars work just fine. Weird, huh?
  12. @IsLNdbOi that is correct...that account can be renamed once setup is finished using security policy... hit window+R to bring up the run dialog, then type in secpol.msc...the option's near the top of the Local Policies -> Security Options page.. note that this won't rename the Administrator folder in C:\Users, it will just be a superficial change, like in the start menu... it's also a very good idea to reboot right after; i thought i broke something cuz i couldn't get the control panel to open, but i rebooted and it was fine...
  13. an e6600 for $290? who the hell pays that much? now this is more like it! @XL-DJK95355 if cheap is the idea, go for an am2 board and a 3600 brisbane core... if performance and upradability are more important, go core 2 duo, anything that's a conroe core with 4mb L2 cache...
  14. i just got that same relocated DLL error...i hadn't had any problems til now...i'm running energize rc1 in my xp test vm, and got a shell32.dll error when i tried to install office 2000...uninstalled energize, rebooted, and setup runs fine now...i guess this is why it's not being called 'final' yet
  15. i hadn't made up my mind, actually...just wanted a bit of guidance...i make mistakes too
  16. i don't believe anyone's started one yet..but i was wondering this as well; i have a home server that i want to use x64, but i'm hesitating til i find an update pack for it... on the other hand, sp2 was released quite recently, so an update pack probly isn't necessary yet...
  17. because of the extra 60$...the object here is to spend less, as money isn't growing on trees... i do agree, a 7950gt 512mb is better, but i'm not sure it would actually perform as well as you claim...bear in mind that this isn't an athlon64 or core2 system...it's a socket A, so i doubt it will see any benefit of the 7950 over the x1950... i'm leaning toward the x1950pro, so i'll recommend that one unless i'm convinced otherwise...
  18. a good friend of mine has an older system, and wants to upgrade the graphics card so he can play cnc3 with me his current setup: biostar m7ncg 400 nforce2 igp (socket a) athlon xp 3200+ barton corsair xms 2gb (2x1gb) ddr @ 400mhz 2-3-2-5 ati radeon 9600xt 256mb vivo (powercolor brand) sound blaster live! 5.1 wdc 250gb ata100 (system) samsung 16x dvd burner he's fallen on hard times, so a new system isn't possible, but i found these on newegg... xfx geforce 7900gs agp his radeon x1950pro agp i did some googling, and it seems that the radeon takes the lead at stock speeds, though not by much; and it handles eye candy better... either of these would work i'm sure, but which of the two is better? thanx for any and all input also, he would overclock the cpu/ram, but it seems the jumper that allows for overclocking has been soldered in the 'off' setting...there are overclocking options in the bios, and they do save..they just don't apply at all...he wants to desolder it to enable oc'ing, but doesnt want to break his mobo either...anybody else done this with a revision 7.2 of this mobo?
  19. i've spent hours trying to figure this one out, and all i can come up with is that if setup2.exe is run during setup, it says that something put in for a reboot, and it won't install until after...i managed to put the r2 inf as part of the sysoc.inf, but never got it to do anything...no errors, just nothing... so i've come to the frustrating conclusion that only m$ knows how, and they aren't telling ...so now i just run r2's setup2.exe at first logon via RunOnceEx, and that works fine...
  20. inCD is nero's packet burning software...u format a disc, then copy-paste stuff on to it like you would a floppy or usb flash disk... IMO, inCD and all other packet writing softwares like it are a waste of time, primarily because there are compatibility issues when you try to read such a disc on a computer that either doesnt have inCD installed, or has some other packet writing software installed...that, and if i'm gonna quickly make a copy of something, it's much easier to just use a usb flash disk.
  21. i dont use all the nero apps, but i have used both express and burning rom, vision express, showtime, recode, and wave editor....of those, burning rom and express are nearly identical between 6 and 7 (not counting hd-dvd/blu-ray support, and obvious graphical changes)... vision express in 7 can encode to hd-dvd and blu-ray (again, pretty useless), and the nero digital codec (nero's mpeg-4 video format) is slightly improved in 7, but nothing major...standard definition dvd support is identical... showtime and recode only had hd-dvd and blu-ray support added in 7... the wave editor in 7 doesnt support as many formats for opening and saving...they removed mp3 support for some reason, probly licensing...this may have changed with newer versions, but i doubt it...the 6 version of wave editor can open wave, aif, he-aac formats, mp3, wma, and ogg...if memory serves, 7 can only open and save to wav... one change that's aesthetic in nature but is a plus in 6 is the progress % that's shown in the taskbar title of express and burning rom...they removed that in 7, not sure why, it's a nice thing to have to see how far along the disc burning is without switching to the window... other than that, i'm not sure of any differences, as i dont use much else...
  22. i believe it's still possible to buy nero 6, and as it doesnt have any of the annoying crap they put into nero 7, it might be worth your time...the only thing that nero 7 has that 6 doesnt (besides that scout program) is support for blu-ray and hd-dvd burning... if you ask me, blank discs in either format are too expensive to even consider...and at 15gb (hd-dvd) and 25gb (blu-ray), it would be a waste of money for me...an external 320gb hard drive can be had for around a hundred bucks... i tried nero 7 once, and decided i hated what they did to it after one day of using it...i went back to nero 6, and wont go back.
  23. Won't the lvllord patch work anymore? i don't believe the lvllord patch ever did work on the x64 version of tcpip.sys...then again, i've never tried it, so i could be wrong
  24. i'm not 100% sure these are correct, they're just what i've got...extracted both with winrar, and it reported no errors, so i think all is well 46D05CE174437A224C8A77047D010AE9 (WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe) BA0DCD626B79BCE598ABD9D0ACA2F64F (WindowsServer2003-KB914961-SP2-x86-ENU.exe)
  25. here's the reply i recieved today: i downloaded the january podcast, and it covered vista extensively...but no mention of 64 or 32 bit with either vista or xp...i'll e-mail back and see if i can get a definitive answer...
