  1. The question, why would this guy be asking for a d/l link for vista in the first place if he was already a beta tester??
  2. You can play around all you want in bios, setup any drive to be the primary bootable in bios, you are still gonna end up getting the ide drive as hdd0. What this means is bios identifies your ide drive as the first drive in your system just because the ide channels are given first preference. Nothing you do is going to change that, this is built into the bios. The only option as you said is to physcially disconnect the ide drives in your system or just disable all ide channels except the atapi ones and install your OS.
  3. You can get it from here
  4. What kind of raid controllers are we talking about over here? IDE, SATA or SCSI?
  5. Just an update. M$ released build 60 of 5308 on connect today which I hear has some bug fixes and such. Hoping to get my hands on it soon and see if it solves the problem. I spoke to another buddy of mine and he has a similar setup except its a gigabyte nf4 chipset along with a 7800gt. He has the same problems that we'll have been having. I will keep my posts updated after an install of this latest unstaged build.
  6. Well! I stripped my main pc of all the raids and unwanted stuff is disabled. The only thing enabled is the ide drive, 2 atapi devices, my sound card and thats it. I even disabled raid in the bios! The only things I can think of is either chipset incompatibiltiy or the video card! For that matter I even removed the second 7800 and it still wont load. I have a MSDN subscription. I even checked and posted in the BETA newsgroups and I actually saw quite a few people have similar problems but no solution so far. I am just taking a shot at every place possible to try the understand what the heck is going on over here?
  7. Is it necessary to load the drivers when I am installing Vista on an IDE drive which is automatically detected? I dont think so! I installed the same build on two different computers, both having nforce chipsets and that too different ones - NForce2 (Abit NF7-S) and NForce3 (MSI Neo2 Platinum) and Vista installed perfectly without a hitch. I did not have to load any drivers at startup plus I was able to install Vista on an IDE as well as a SATA drive on the NF3.
  8. Hmmm...and i thought I was the only one having the issue! Almost similar setup to yours: Asus SLI Premium Opteron 146 2*7800 GTX I just cant seem to get vista installed on my main system no matter what. I have vista isntalled on my mce box and my 2nd rig without a problem. But for some reason or other I just cant seem to get any versions of Vista installed on the above setup.
  9. Main rig - Opteron 146 @ 3.2 ghz 320*10 (1.525V) (Mobo - Asus A8N-SLI Premium, BFG 2*7800gt) Second rig - A64 3200+ Venice @ 2.6 ghz 325*9 (1.55V) (MSI Neo2 Platinum, Elsa Gloria Quadro DCC) HTPC - XP-M 2600+ @ 2.6ghz 200*13 (1.5V) (Abit NF7-S Rev.2, PNY 6600gt 256mb)
  10. Actually, there's nothing wrong with that particular model. I have two of them at home here. The problem lies in the fact that Linksys decided to change the firmware in these routers from V5 onwards. They got rid Linux and put some POS firmware on these routers. Call up Linksys, get an RMA to return the current one and ask them to send you WRT54GL.....WRT54GL. Its exactly the same as the one you have right now, but guess what the 'L stands for?
  11. I don't give a hoot about benchmarks. Show me where it proves that a 4:1 ratio gives a performance boost in real time applications.
  12. DFI forums dont prove crap. The only thing that goes on over there is basically comparing one's e-d**k to another.
  13. The reason most people leave it alone is because its a royal PITA to install an OS on a 16/16 unless you already have an existing OS on your system. And please show where it mentions a 4:1 stripe/cluster betters a 16k/16k or a 32/32k.
  14. Setting a cluster size different from the stripe size would be totally retarded and it basically negates the point of having raid 0. Your stripe size always has to equal your cluster size. It also comes down to what you are going to use your raid partition for. For audio/video editing where you use fairly large files go with the highest stripe/cluster size. For day to day applicaitons where you tend to use smaller files go with either a 16k/16k or a 32k/32k partition.
  15. LMFAO!!! Look on Newegg or ZZF for hard drives!
  16. NO! Socket's cannot be interchanged.
  17. If the HDD is making wierd noises, thats a warning sign that the HDD is about to die. Try to salvage whatever your can from the HDD ASAP. You never know when the HDD is gonna bite the dust.
  18. Oh God! Not you! I am surprised you been in this forum for almost 2 months under the same username and haven't been banned!
  19. Comparing an AMD 2.8ghz proc to an Intel 2.8ghz proc is like comparing apples to oranges, let alone an FX57 to an Intel 2.8. With your knowledge I am actually surprised you ended up doing such a BS comparison. Its a well known fact since the Athlon XP days that there is no possible way to compare an AMD to an Intel in terms of clock speed. The Athlon FX series is top of the line for AMD just as the Pentium EE is to Intel. Comparing those 2 is more or less like comparing equivalent CPU's. So given the prices for each of them, the prices are almost at par for both AMD and Intel.
  20. I really don't know how you could come with an asinine comment like that. Its proven over and over again that AMD chips beat the living hell outta Intel chips when it comes to Cost vs Performance ratio.
  21. And tell me again in what way does DDR2 prove to be better than DDR???
  22. Go down to your local walgreens or walmart and buy dry lens cleaner. They cost about a buck or something. They are anti-static. You use any credit card or plastic you gonna end up scratching the bottom of the heatsink
  23. You can try but I doubt if its gonna work since each unit is tuned to a particular frequency. Anyway the other option is to use the Logitech setpoint and that way u can use either of your mice. For instance I have the MX1000 and the G5. I use the G5 for gaming and the MX1000 for everything else. Once I start gaming I just put the MX1000 back in the cradle and use my G5. Its pretty neat!
  24. I was the one who had posted the solution at ABIT forums. http://forum.abit-usa.com/showpost.php?p=6...8&postcount=508 This might help you. If you have a dos hex editor or a dual boot system you might be able to edit the mbr on the raid partition. ....Just to let ya'll know - NTDETECT.COM and NTLDR has nothing to do at all over here.
