  1. Do you admin rights on this machine? You should be able to change properties of folders/files w/o a problem. It almost sounds like something is still using those files and they are in use which is why can't change the attribs? I use Office 2003 as well and haven't even seen anything like this. Can you 'Repair' the install ?

  2. On the XP machine, in windows explorer. Tools > Options > View Tab > Uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'. Make sure you can ping the router, dns server and the 2003 machine. You may want to setup shares, do this through the console in admin tools. Be sure on the network connction of the XP machine you also have file 'File and Printer' sharing enabled. Be sure the Server & Workstation services are also set to manual.

  3. I agree... sounds like a sector of the disk may have gotten corrupted when the power was cut. Check for diag utilities on the manufacturer's site.. also see if you can get into DOS and run scandisk /checkonly first to check and see if it finds errors. If so, then run again with scanndisk /autofix. If you're not familiar with scandisk already, check here for all the switches. Hope this helps, good luck.

  5. I understand your pain man... I went through the same thing for a while, I thought I was on crack or something when it started moving all around by itself. Seriously though I'd give the vendor a call and let them know whats up and maybe they can offer you some suggestions. You may end up have to delete or move all the porn to an external drive and send it in to be fixed, LOL. If it was that new though I'd be p***ed too.

  6. Wow... thats odd for such a young laptop. If its still under warrenty I'd give the reseller or Acer a call and tell them whats up and maybe they can offer you some suggestions? Mine just simply went out and I replaced it w/o a hitch and its worked fine ever since. Have you been bad to your laptop?? LOL

  7. Welcome Ted! I would suggest deleting that frontpage folder first of all. Next I would run CCLeaner for the registry benifits. Next I'd use regedit and first export the registry so you have a backup, then search for and delete all Office keys and entries. Restart and try the install again. When trying to install on top of a current instlalation do you have the option to repair? Are you logged in as admin or a user that has admin rights? Also, try here and here. Hope this helps. Let us know.

  8. I had the same problem however my mouse was all over the place. It would go from corner to corner and all around the screen w/o me even touching it. I would try replacing/updating the driver for it, remove it from device mgr and restart. I would also open it up and check all the connections for the mouse. I ended up having to replace mine. Good luck man.
