PerfectDisk 7.0 !!!

As far as the mobo I wouldn't be of much help. I am actually in the process of building my first machine right now. However, I went with the ASUS P5WD2 Premium, socket 775 intel board. I'm going for an intel based system. I would just do some googling and keep checking back here for an answer on a suggested mobo. We have some very informative people here Sry I don't know more about AMD boards....

Try out this CPU Comparison Chart from Tom's Hardware. I just learned of this yesterday, pretty informative.

Thanks turkeyshoot, just what I was looking for

Completely possible, I have done this with an internal 120GB maxtor... all you need is a USB 2.0 Enclosure. Hope this helps. I got one with a built in han to keep the hard drive cool as well, just FYI. Its great, plug and play 120GB usb drive for under $100.

Hahaha... well, I'm not going to shell out the cash for the P4 670, I'm going for the 660 if it stays around $400 after this new price drop. Thanks Intel!! So we'll see what happens, lol.

No biggie I just wish the P5WD2 utilized the technology.

TOOLS -> MANAGE ADD-ONS -> Disable ActiveX is the on I used....
In what program are you doing this? IE? I'm looking for the best way to do this right now myself, don't know if I should use a key... but this method seems pretty painless I just don't know where "Manage Add-Ons" is.

I'd recommend EurAsia for this type of thing. I modded my xbox and use that forum all the time to post questions. They have a section of every gaming console and more.

Uhm... Yes, the raptor does support TCQ.... Here However, I don't think I'll be able to use it because I think I read somewhere that the new 955x chipset doesn't support it.

Hey no problem about the work, I understand man. I ended up getting the Antec Performace TX640B, not the cheapest one, but not the high end one either. I like it, looks sleek. I'm glad to hear the PSU will be fine. I've tried tapping on the I/O shield, I guess I just didn't do it hard enough, didn't wanna break anything before I got it together ya know.
As far as the fans go, I'd like to get one to mount in the hard drive 'cage' as it'd be nice to keep them cool, are they all generic and should just pop into place if I get the 80mm?
And yes, I do have a digital camera and will keep ya up to date once I start putting everything together. It's not much to look at right now, I just have the mobo, case, vid card and LCD. I'm waiting on the processor to come in before I mount the mobo like we talked about.
I'm also considering the original idea of the 2x512 configuration on the RAM to be able to run in dual channel right from the get go. I can always add another 2 more 512s at some other point. There shouldn't be much difference in performance between 2x1GB or 4x512 correct? Thanks again jcarle!
Oh, and another thing... The majority of all the burners I'm looking at are IDE. Is there that much a performance jump from IDE > SATA on DVD burners? I wouldn't mind buying one of the nice Pioneers thats black and IDE if the speed will still be fast. The DVD drive we talked about and you suggested, is beige. The case is black... on the hunt for a black SATA DL if you've got suggestions. Thanks!

Check to make sure you have enough virtual memory setup and that you have installed Outlook Express correctly.

I would recommend the Linksys WRT54G router, although not sure if you need wireless functionality or not. If no wireless required I would recommend the Linksys BEFSR41. Both great products, fast, secure, easy to setup. Be sure and update the firmware on whatever you decide on.

Most definatly remove some applications and/or get another HD for storage. I'd run a defrag with PerfectDisk as well once done.

Anyone using a WD 74gb Raptor with a SATA controller that supports Tag Command Queuing with the drive? Just wondering what the performance gain is with TCQ enabled versus disabled. I'm about to buy a WD740GD for my new machine, I have the new Asus P5WD2 Premium board and am not sure if this baord supports TCQ. If anyone knows that as well that'd be great! Thanks.

My vote is for the 74gb Raptor

Yeah, thats crazy. Have you run the SFC command to check and see if any system fiels are corrupted? I know it's a new machine, but never hurts. Also, are all you drivers, especially the vid card, up to date?

"Intel confirms price cuts on all 6xx series processors.." Thanks Intel, just in time!

Have tried using another NIC besides the one built-in to your mobo? Try getting a good ol' 10/100 PCI NIC and see if it'll connect then. Try different ports on the back of your router/switch or do you connect directly into your modem?

Hey all, I know there are many apps out there that are able to do this, just wondering if anyone here is familiar with any good ones and can recommend a good product. Just looking for something that will create a user defined encrypted and hidden virtual folder/drive on an existing partition. TIA.

Are you monitoring the heat on your CPU... could it be overheating? What are the specs of the machine?

I usuall use Winamp for all audio/video. Sometimes WMP10 for different things that winamp won't play.

2 questions already. First one about the PSU. The red wattage selector on the back of the PSU.... the only options are 115 and 230. I have 110 outlets in my place, will it work??
Second, whats the easiest and safest way to remove the stock I/O Shield from the new case and replace it with the one that came w/ my mobo?

Like chili said, most likely a dns issue. Be sure that you are being assigned Primary and Secondary DNS servers from you ISP. Try pinging them both and checking tracert.
