RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If all he did was change the DLLs and maybe the INF a bit, you shouldn't have any problems extracting over top. The one thing to keep in mind is that he based his release on the Lite pack, which didn't have the different calculator, remote desktop, etc clients, so those English ones will still be on there. -

You should be able to just extract it over top. -
RyanVM Pack: Making my own 1.03 "Semi-Skimmed"
RyanVM replied to PsiMoon314's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Not surprising. KB834707 added about 4MB to the size of the package. And yet, it barely changes the overall size of the CD at all B) -
RyanVM Pack: Making my own 1.03 "Semi-Skimmed"

First off, please keep posts in the main thread on the topic. No need to clutter things up. Second, yes those are the only changes you need to make. Heck, the INF change isn't even really needed, since only the hacked sfc_os.dll looks to the SFCSetting entry. -
You might want to convert it to PDF for those who can't open Word documents. EDIT: I went ahead and converted it. It's also 30K smaller as PDF. Creating_a_Microsoft_Windows_XP_SP2_CD_with_Slipstreamed_SATA_and_or_RAID_Drivers.pdf

winnt.sif (computer name auto generate)?
RyanVM replied to Astalavista's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I'm pretty sure it can't be done with winnt.sif. What you might be able to do is to rename the computer at the T12 stage with a batch file and use some kind of algorithm for creating random names. Or you can leave it blank and just put it in manually during setup. -

You're missing some XPSP2 hotfixes. I've got all the fixes in my pack. They're listed at my website. It should give you the information you need to add them to the list. http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html -

RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Thanks for the confirmation that the XP Home issues are resolved now. My bet is that you're going to have to install the WMP10 version of the KB887078 after you install WMP10, unless you go so far as to integrate WMP10 into your XP CD. And yes, you'd need the different wmvcore.dll and kb887078.cat files. You can try cabbing the WMP10 files and putting them in i386, but I'm not sure they won't just be overwritten when you install WMP10. -

First off, try posting this in the correct forum. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=80 Second, try using the search tool, as there's a HUGE thread on SAV9 in the Application Switches forum. -

Great! Glad to see that people are doing this for other languages. -
I actually experienced a reboot the other day after double clicking the exe to run it. Figures... EDIT: And evilvoice, there's a reason it has to be called via msiexec. but I forget what it is off the top of my head.

RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yeah, I'd say so. I personally extract the files into i386 incrementally myself. I don't have a clue what you could be overwriting causing the problem. Did you download the correct sysoc.inf for your XP version? -
My pack is specifically designed for English XP versions...

Thread bump for those who might have missed the new version being posted last night. -
And if you don't have any registry settings to import, you can just put the "setup.exe /yadda yadda yadda" line in config.txt rather than creating a batch file.

RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
1.0.3 is out. Get it from the usual place. Please read the changelog and the installation directions as some things have changed from 1.0.2. Also, I hate to point this out, but I did put a Paypal donate button on my website. If you feel so compelled, I'll gladly accept any donation you want to make. If you don't, I'll still make packs . This will be the only time I mention it in this thread, but I wanted to make sure people were aware of it since I had been asked about it in the past. -

RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If you've already got 1.0.2 integrated, you'll be able to use the 1.0.2-->1.0.3 upgrade pack I'll be making as well. Those can be directly extracted into i386 with no further work necessary. -
RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
No. Think about it for a minute. The hotfixed files are directly slipstreamed into your CD. That means the updated wmvcore.dll is already on your CD from the start. There's no reason it would interfere with WMP10 being installed at a later time, just like having WMP9 installed doesn't interfere with WMP10 being installed. Just be aware that you'd have to install the WMP10 version of the hotfix afterwards. No. Primarily because I simply don't have the time. Maybe in December when I'm on Christmas break and have some free time to kill. However, it is setup in a way that people who take the time to really look at and study what I've done should be able to figure it out on their own. It's really not that complicated. Extract the updated files. Makecab them. Add the needed registry entries to the INF (you can figure that out by doing a registry trace before and after hotfix installation). I'd also recommend you read up on the new update.exe so you understand the difference between GDR and QFE versions of the files contained within, along with the Microsoft documentation on INF editing (I also used gosh's pages quite a bit for learning how to use them). It takes some work, but once you understand the basic process, it's quite straightforward. -
RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Ah crap, looks like I have a typo or something (actually, I think I forgot to copy a file to my i386 directory before building the ISO). More testing here we come EDIT: Yup, that's exactly what I did. I forgot to copy the newer svcpack.in_ to i386, so the product catalogs didn't get installed. My bad -
I've got another idea too regarding the restart issues. msiexec can be called with a /norestart switch (at least in SP2). Anybody with restart issues interested in another round of test builds?

RyanVM Windows XP SP2 Update Pack
RyanVM replied to RyanVM's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I'm testing 1.0.3 right now on my system. It'll be adding the two new hotfixes (KB885932 and KB887078) that were recently released. An advance word of warning to nLite users, KB887078 includes an updated version of wmvcore.dll. If you use nLite to remove WMP9 from your XP CD, this updated file will also be removed (my pack is extracted prior to component removal). As a result, qfecheck will almost certainly say that KB887078 must be reinstalled (there will be registry entries saying it's installed but the files won't be present on the system). You can safely ignore that warning from qfecheck. I just wanted to warn you guys in advance before some of you start experiencing that.
