  1. Nice replacement. I am currently using a bigger view of the classic calculator. I will give this one a shot.
  2. I was wondering if anyone knows of an addon to the windows shell that will provide a run box or bash command box that will be suppressed on the wallpaper/desktop. I don't want it to be on top of windows like the GO shell. I was able to do thie type thing in a shell replacement before like litestep, but I am too adapted to the typical look and feel of the windows classic shell. I use the run box alot, but to have this always showing with cursor stealing focus when desktop is showing would be excellent!
  3. that was funny, thanks; was a neat read.
  4. I made a winamp 2.91 msi along with one for flashget and winrar. The winamp one seems to have a problem. It installed fine. But seemingly after each reboot and the first time running winamp, it seems to show a windows installer popup that says gathering information. It goes away after like 5 seconds. How do I prevent this? Thank you
  5. Is there a program to check if a hardware device is not found with a command as well to do an automatic scan for the driver for it? Thanks
  6. Thanks for this suggestion; I am checking it out http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html#gtk -- note to others: gtk seems needed to use this. I do not see this in my Office 2003 Professional; how can I get this photo editor? I remember what it looks like -- good app. I'm going to take a look at this one too. http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/download.htm -- incase anyone wants to as well.Photofiltre looks neat as well. screenshot: http://photofiltre.free.fr/utilitaires/scr_photofiltre.htm download: http://photofiltre.free.fr/download_en.htm
  7. I remember aol and compuserv having setup files the the win9x folder too; you could check for those for a few mb.
  8. If you can remove the cd after first reboot, does that mean that $oem$ contents and all are copied to the HD temporarily for the whole install process?
  9. This was something I had never seen before. A friend said he came into same problem before. Basically machine A has working connectivity on network using ethernet cable. Same cable is used on machine B at same ethernet plugin port but with no working connectivity. I tried a different cable for machine B, and the connection was working. To my knowledge, there was no CAT cable model number difference between the 2 cables. Anyone have experience with this or an idea what might have been problem with this cable? Note that the cable works just fine for machine A.
  10. I tried finding a command line shell, but I can't find one; suggestions, Aegis? Thanks for these tools
  11. The images look like my default windows setup screen. I'm really confused. Maybe they just look really close. Will this effect the other screens? My UA skips the above ones
  12. Hey war, which post? I edited the one I thought he was referring to before this post by you was made. Also, the post of the IE images has been edited. There are a couple that have not been figured out. Anyone know them? Thanks http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=54809 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=54605
  13. I looked up that key you provided. RunInvalidSignatures seems to be set to 1 in more places than I found that reported it being set to 0. There other lines were showing only on of the results of the ones I viewed. Anyone have a confirmation on these lines? ;Gets rid of anoying popup for running files you download from internet [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download] "CheckExeSignatures"="no" "RunInvalidSignatures"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments] "SaveZoneInformation"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations] "LowRiskFileTypes"=".zip;.rar;.nfo;.txt;.exe;.bat;.com;.cmd;.reg;.msi;.htm;.html;.gif;.bmp;.jpg;.avi;.mpg;.mpeg;.mo v;.mp3;.m3u;.wav;" CheckExeSignatures and RunInvalidSignatures disable "The publisher could not be verified" prompts when running downloaded files. When a user downloads a file from the Internet, Windows automatically marks the file attachment with its zone information (such as Restricted, local, internet..) Based on file's zone information Windows assignes a proper risk level (High, Moderate, or Low) To disable this feature SaveZoneInformation is set to 1. Files listed in LowRiskFileTypes are not blocked by Windows and a security message is never displayed. If LowRiskFileTypes is not configured, downloads that were made before SaveZoneInformation was set to 1, will still display Warning message. Thanks for the tip on the codebox; new one to me.
  14. At a normal dsl connection, normally not, but when i'm at university, (has a great connection, think about 19000kbps) using more than 5 threads is really increasing speed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is not a logical reply. I'm not sure if the example provided in my post makes sense or not. Basically, it is not safe to say that the amount of connections one is able to use for benefit is based solely on his/her own internet connection. If your dsl will max out at 250kb/sec and the download is going at 50kb/sec, then it is logical to increase the amount of connections. If you increase the amount of connections and do not notice a change, then you could remove the newly added connection due to it not being a benefit to the overall transfer rate. If are at a university and you are able to get 500kb/sec+ downloading, then do not expect to get this from most hosts. Unfortunately, not every host has as much or wants to allow as much upload bandwidth to a single user.
  15. A screenshot can be found here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...1&hl=start+menu It's one reason that I like the small icons for start menu -- to avoid that; small icons start menu also appears to load quicker.
  16. I am rebuilding winamp 2.91 setup via adminstudio. I noticed that the supported extensions mp3, wav, etc. are noted in registry by the setup for netscape web browser. If my understanding of this is right, I wanted to be able to do this for Opera, Firefox and IE (if such is same setup there too). Here is a screenshot where AdminStudio noticed the registry change with netscape entries. I laughed when I saw netscape navigator. Maybe someone can help me with this for opera and ff. Thanks in advance
  17. Super! Thanks for this; I hope someone has the others too
  18. I made another driver pack for my sound card drivers; they didn't seem to exist in the sound a and b of the already made DP's. The sound card drivers seem to install, but part of it doesn't seem to complete? The line that is selected in the following scrshot is the line that shows a yellow ! by it after installation (and n reboots). It will finish the installation of the driver fine if I just right click it and go to update driver, and then automatic. Hopeful Clarification: This picture is where I have completed the install manually by right clicking the line that is highlighted -> update driver -> automatic, next, finish. Before doing this, only that line has the standard yellow ! by it.
  19. Thanks so much for that information and research, war59312. Anyone know either of these 2 tweaks: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=54809 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=54605 Thanks, the tips and tweaks section is stomped. I hope someone knows!
  20. It has never been sensible for me to do more than 2 or 3 connections. Generally, 1 or 2 connections is good enough to get the max out of the host or your connection. In one case, a host was max'ing out a single connection at 10kb/s; so, I opened 10 connections getting around ~100kb/sec. This is the only case where I have seen such, but without a program like flashget I could not have got the files at the speed I did.
  21. I know Flashget is commercial, but I like it alot. I know there are some free ones out there. I'm interested in what the members here use, and I'm interested in what you feel might be advantages/disadvantages of your choice when compared to say Flashget or other popular one(s). Thanks
  22. Anyone have the registry settings to never see the below alerts again? Thanks so much!!! **edit** The 2nd and the last one have not been found yet. Anyone know of them? Thanks for everyone's help.
