  1. I am actually trying to do something similar with this. I wanted to know if there was a way to deploy images with pxe but not have the new machines added to the domain initially. There are some software tweaks that always must be done before a pc is put on the domain. Anyone got ideas?
  2. I am having problems fixing an image I was about to deploy. I dont want to start over on this until I at least figured out what I did wrong. My issue is even though I am an admin on my domain, the vista pc recently added to the domain doesnt take my credintials. It says it still needs elevation. As far as I know the domain settings are still the same. I am wondering if this has something to do with SP1 (previous working image was RTM vista) or something I screwed up in the local group policy.
  3. Just download gimagex, that will allow you to change your description of the wim file. I have tried it and it works like a change.
  4. To fix sound problems, check this out, and follow instruction Link Fix sound problems on server 2008 Tried this already doesnt work for me. Sound is still crappy.
  5. I got the audio working but it sounds like crap for some reason. Anyone know how to fix this?
  6. If you can look on your cds and if you find a file called install.wim that is the file you must slipstream sp1 into. Install.wim is your windows install.
  7. The key used by a royalty oem will be different than what is on the side of the pc. The key that the jelly bean found is the one that was used in the original install of your system when you got it. I would use that key instead of the one on the side that way you dont have to go thru the activation process.
  8. What I am trying to do is create a vista/server dvd that has most vista and server editions all one dvd. What I am looking to include is Business, Home Premium, Ultimate, Enterprise, Standard Server, Enteprise Server, and Datacenter Server. I am wanting to put all the x86 and x64 versions all on one disc, I dont want any of the Core server stuff because it has no real gui, I dont want to include the N versions or Basic Version of Vista. Will all of this fit on a dvd-5 disc with maximum compression? Is there an option when exporting the images so that they dont encode the same files twice so that I can reduce the size of the image even more?
  9. I got a question on this, when doing your export how does it know to append to the existing image instead of just overwriting them?
  10. I have read alot about this, what I wanted to know how does this process handle updating the service stack? Why is it that microsoft insists that this cant be done offline? I have seen a few 3rd party apps like vlite, vista tool and vista update integrater how do those tools compare to using the method found in this thread?
  11. Lets say I had bought multiple copies of windows vista, 1 for each addition of vista. Is it possible to have one answer file that can customize each of the additions in a seperate way? Like a key for ultimate a different key for business or home premium?
  12. I created one of the vistape 2.0 disks with imagex on it. After I install and customize the vista or xp image I run sysprep. Boot up the windows pe 2.0 disk. I map to the server that will keep the images. Use imagex on the drive with the syspreped xp or vista image. Imagex copies it over the network to server. When I need to restore the image I just boot up the pe disk again and deploy it on the drive where I need it to go. It works well enough for me. What I wanted to ask is what is WDS doing extra for you all than just maping to that server or shared space and using imagex on the new pc couldnt do over the network? In other words why use WDS at all?
  13. Where does my answer file need to go if I am install from a dvd I made. I know for xp I would put it in the i386 folder but what about vista?
  14. So far it seems to be working so far, I havent tested an install but I have successfully integrated 2 images within a retail disc. I know the whole driver thing can get real messy with vista so what I plan to do is do the drivers at the very end after I integrated all the rest of the images. Prior to that I will make a backup copy of the install.wim incase something goes wrong. My only gripes with this as a whole is the lack of documentation, the website to get it from not being in english(spent 10 minutes clicking on stuff because I cant read the language) and the speed of the app. I know installing sp1 on a real machine takes a bit of time but isnt this just doing a copy paste of files and possibly changing the registry? I dont see why it has to be so slow.
  15. I been trying to add my own drivers and updates to an image. What I want to do is make this image useable for the windows setup install but I keep having issues where it either cant find the install.wim or it cant display the names of the images for the install for windows setup. What exactly do I need to do to guarantee that it will see my install.wim file. I always make sure the sku flag is set when capturing from imagex but I dont think it is making a difference in this. I am trying vista-tool as well.
  16. I was wanting to repackage my vista dvd but with sp1 and possibly office 2007 as well. What I am needing to do is integrate drivers into this install so I dont have to look for floppies or other media for my sata card. I saw a few guides on microsoft's site but the documentation is a bit lacking. What I want to do is have the drivers on the dvd and have it load them at the start of the install, but how do you do it automatically? That is the hard part. The reason I say it is hard is because if I try to point the files to a certain area the drive letters could totally be different based on how the drive is partition and whether or not I have multiple hard drives in a machine. So in other words how do I make it look for the first dvd-rom?
  17. No i mean how do you integrate it into something like Vista PE 2.0. After burning the cd I saw options for all this other stuff but I cant seem to figure out how to make gimagex show up like the other programs do in the start menu for it.
  18. I was wondering how do you install GIMAGEX into Vista PE? I tried winmaster but I cant seem to make images that are compatible with the windows setup media. I was hoping GIMAGEX would be easier to use instead.
  19. Yes, you can integrate Internet Explorer 7 into your source. You can use default Microsoft tooling for this, or use tools such as HFSLIP, nLite, et cetera. How does one do this with microsoft tools?
  20. I am looking for a PE type of setup that is similar to BartPE but I want to be able to capture and deploy wim files. My company has decided to move away from using the ghost client for imaging due to the licensing costs so I heard that WinPE 2.0 is a good free alternative. My problem is that I hate dealing with old dos commands and such. Having a GUI for this kind of setup would make this so much easier for me.
