  1. Just reinstalled again using v0.9 cd of which was made from v0.8 dvd and im getting updates installing again...so must be something in ver 0.8 that is allowing me to remove Component Cache in ver 0.9 and yet still retain ability to install updates... Once again this is how i made dvd 0.8 and cd 0.9 "my config=removed everything from version 8 except drivers for vid/snd/lan,..copied ver 8 dvd to harddrive ,installed version 9,removed everything that ver 8 did not cover except above drivers and made cd (677mb)...did clean install."
  2. Yes there working for me (don't know how i can show you)...maybe it's something to do with me making verion 9 cd from version 8 dvd? (see above post)
  3. well updates downloaded and installed for me... my config=removed everything from version 8 except drivers for vid/snd/lan,..copied ver 8 dvd to harddrive ,installed version 9,removed everything that ver 8 did not cover except above drivers and made cd (677mb)...did clean install.
  4. update works fine for me with component cache removed... on Control Panel\Windows Update on top left hand side click "Check for updates" btw: nuhi, thanks for a great program...i had made a vlite dvd from ver 8,so then all i did was use that dvd and then removed the extras with ver 9 and now have vlite on cd (677 mb with everything removed except drivers for vid/audio/lan)
  5. How original, did you come up with the "Hasta la Vista" all by yourself. -you ran a beta version and said it was slow...have you tryed the rtm version, because thats the only true way to rate a os system performance...vista rtm can't compare to the beta versions,it simply runs great! -you say ms will only allow you to chgange hardware once then you "must make a request to Microsoft for leniency or repurchase a new license"...this is wrong, you can upgrade all component's any number of times with no need to repurchase. -you say linux is "more robust, reliable, secure" where as a number of recent surveys prove that this is not the case, and that was comparing to xp! -linux "don't restrict the user"...here you are finally correct -saying this is the beginning of the end of ms is downright silly,no one can predict the future (would you have thought of google 5 years ago?) -"This is by and far the worst offering from Microsoft since" didn't you try windows Me? summary: get your facts right if your going to rant on about windows vista, the whole comparing windows vs linux get's boring after a while...why not get your hands on a copy of vista rtm and use it for a couple weeks and then write a review of what you did and didn't like! ps:in case you think im some ms cheerleader,im not! i personally have used both windows and linux for a number of years (have used linux daily since redhat 5.2 days...with my distro of choice being suse) and this post being written using a usb key version of slax...
  6. I notice same problem i had with a p3 600 with 768 ram nv5200fx 128 video...scrolling is lagging a bit However on my sempron 3000 with 1 gig ram and same video card as above...no problems with scrolling So im guessing ie7 needs cpu power...so from now on with my old p3 ill just stick to ie6 to update and firefox 2.0 for browser
  7. If you want to make a image of your harddrive vista will do it for you...go to backup in control panel...then to restore boot from your vista cd and pick restore...it works great...i made image of fresh install with settings and drivers i like...it took about 10 min to make image, and i tryed restoring which took about 15 min...
  8. This whole project is getting very boring fast.If i didn't know any better,id say your just trying to keep this thread going cause you like to see it near the top week after week.Your countless excuses for not having this done are growing old.Not having a deadline for beta releases, and your carefree attitude to endless delays gives me zero confidence in this project.
  9. For me it's always going to be "merry christmas"... Passage Matthew 1:16: and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
  10. Good to hear,i don't play many games...but will look foward to running firefox in a minimal install... Have a Merry Christmas
  11. Well there goes xmas joking.... Questions: You mentioned 56k and broadband for gaming in back thread,so i take it internet access will be part of it? Will we be able to load firefox, and use xp built in fwall? Will loading drivers give us .dll he** ie: nvidia drivers Would love a nice simple os with just basic firefox access with my broadband....ive done something similar with slackware, but would like a win one also....
  12. P3 600...runs faster made this one from a litestep theme i saw Litestep.zip
  13. complain complain complain 32-bit also please
  14. Has me thinking...is this going to be some type live cd,with only some being installed to the harddrive? 1 gb min ram...gotta be something im not thinking of.....hummm
  15. Aegis: Is this going to be similar to "Mindows Project" but with a installer? Also will this require Win2k3? I did enjoy making a mindows version, all be it's needing certain *.dll in order to make some programs work and or install... ps: if you want a alpha or beta tester give me a buzz...as i did take on your mindows project with success,i'd be more then happy to give this one a try also...
  16. By the time this project is done, vista will be gold.
  17. Try different ram...i had same thing happen to me,ram was fine just didn't get along with mb i put it in...i swaped it with another comps ram i have, and now no more reboots...and other box gets along with that ram no problems...
  18. xfs is faster... http://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/ if you want a nice minimal install of linux try using... gentoo http://www.gentoo.org/ or slackware http://www.slackware.com/ if you like slack you might like slax also (min live install cd,that can be installed to hd) http://slax.linux-live.org/ SLAX Popcorn Edition v 5.0.6 ver is 104mb
  19. sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
  20. Ubuntu is a gnome based distro,so even though its easy to add kde using apt-get...if you want kde you could try Ubuntu twin Kubuntu http://www.kubuntu.org/ ... its same as Ubuntu but with kde. If you get sick of using sudo with Ubuntu/Kubuntu try using "sudo passwd root" ...
  21. suse http://www.opensuse.org/Released_Version
  22. Yes (in a way) it's called imaging software...you do a fresh install of windows/activate/download latest updates/install lastest drivers/adjust windows to setting you like (example: favorites/folder options/visual effects etc etc) /install software (example: firefox/avg/zonealarms etc etc/) /then install imaging software..i use norton ghost, but plenty of free programs out there...then make a image of your hardrive to cd/dvd...then if you ever screw something up or get a virus that wont go away or spyware etc etc, just pop in your image cd/dvd and your back to where you left off (from when you made image) then just check for any windows updates, antivirus updates etc etc
