    DMI BIOS year

You can't change DMI informations that way. Really. I really think you should get the ubuntu kernel sources, use a console, cd into the expanded sources, make gconfig, wait a bit and use the search to find the string "2000", disable the proper option, close and save the window, in the console, type "make all install modules_install". But you should know you may have problems with acpi on your computer : I wouldn't bet your computer will properly boot with acpi enabled. You should find a recent livecd with acpi enabled and try first.

    DMI BIOS year

I don't think this is related to nlite. nlite can't act the bios level : all it can do is remove a check windows and only windows performs. Anyway this tweak does not even remove this in windows : it simply removes informations windows has about bioses, just like you could remove drivers. Removing sound card drivers won't make your sound card fly away. This is the same. About linux, I have acpi and while this is mandatory to get suspend and hibernate, this is not sufficient. What you can do is recompile your linux kernel with the same configuration as your ubuntu but without the pre-2000 check. But it will not necessarily solve your problems as power management is tricky under linux (acpi used to be tricky, now this is ok but resume and suspend are big deals). If you need help on this I can help you (and don't be scared with the kernel recompile).
  3. I can backup this : running hfslip and then nlite is working great. You only have to tell nlite not to delete some new files if you slipstreamed directx.
  4. I think this has been available in nlite once but just think : you copy the content of your cd to your computer, reboot, forget to remove the cd and go to the toilets waiting for your computer to reboot. When you're back, your computer has been formatted. A bit risky no ?
  5. This file can't tell you whether all hotfixes were slipstreamed correctly or not. It only displays a list of NEW files. It was only meant to give a quick preview of hfslip.log for people who wonder how many files and which are added. You probably misread. There is a way to reduce the amount of HFSLP*.INF files. See here.OK. Thanks. It's created by HFSLIP. It's for the Show Desktop icon that is missing when you slipstream IE7. At T-13, sdesktop.scf is copied into the correct location with the correct name depending on the language your source is in. See HFSLIPSD.INF.I thought latest IE7 installers fixed the problem.
  6. Btw nuhi, I've had some problems with changing keyboard layouts on my nlited isos. I've tracked down the problem to a very stupid thing : it needs the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IMM\IME File REG_SZ key set to msctfime.ime (it's a file in system32, present on my windows installation, it was just the key which was missing) Last_Session.ini
  7. If you just removed the interface but kept the core then you won't have any compatibility problem I think. All the virus I know are for windows, let's remove windows : some times even though they are bad, there are things we need.
  8. The point is not there : mine can be 120 to 130MB without any problem showing up. Games just need the codecs : no matter how they are provided (official wmp, unofficial one, codec packs) Didn't take the time to look at the lastsession.ini but if he really removed IE then there's chance some games won't run (think valve games need it because of steam).
  9. How do you know you need to enable the firewall ? If you want you can use regmon or filemon to find which object (file or reg entry) is used to check that and then restore the file or add /set the reg thing by hand.
  10. Hum, not a single and planning not to have any.
  11. Yeah, I already encountered it in the forums but thought it was to keep things grouped and avoid wars where people would dissect other members' post.
  12. Hi, I just replied to a PM and as there was detailled and different questions, I had a lot of [|quote|] tags. However this seems to be limited to 9 (inclusive) which is easily reached. Could it be highered in PMs, just like the number of smileys ? Thanks.
  13. Just noticed this one: "sdesktop.scf". Is it from hfslip (1.6.4) or IE7 ?
  14. A frien of mine also has this problem. On my computer I don't think I have such a problem but I have to say I didn't pay much attention to graphics (frag, frag, frag ) though I think graphics improved (distant edges were very aliased at first).
  15. Just a quick first report. Here's what has been added to an XP SP2 source. Nearly but not all hotfixes slipstreamed (see hfslip.log, it's a bit dirty). 16. I played against some bots (I was already late) and did not set everything to the max but still 1280x1024 and half for the details. The only lags I had where not due to the graphic part but rather loading. I'll see again on tomorrow with more details. (7600GT, 2Go RAM, Athlon64 3200+)
  17. Still the same for me : chkdsk X: /R. It's the best way to know whether you're hard drive is physically damaged. There's another thing you may take a look at : the event viewer. For instance when a CD is damaged, all errors are reported there.
  18. PM'ed I usually insist on the fact this is beta though I don't have problems with it because I don't want people to think this is to be considered stable. Moreover not everybody will like the choices made. So install on another partition or have a backup. As I said English should be OK (a friend of mine uses it). For XP CDs coming from OEM vendors, you have to get rid of the OEM settings. This includes software installations. For instance my DELL CD installs microsoft java vm but XP's SP2 doesn't have the MS JVM anymore. And in fact, most important, lately OEM also started to preinstall adwares and toolbars. I'm pretty sure you know this, just don't forget them. Merci.
  19. I have to say this should be really interesting : slipstreaming sp2, updates and dx9 adds some 20MB to my (heavily) nlited isos (heavily nlited means down to 120MB).
  20. Just use the default values for this : they are the bests. I usually tweak everything I can in any software or hardware and tried in the driverpacks but the settings were already optimal.
  21. Absolutely impossible to get anything. I'll try to mirror it so that msfn members can access it easily but I'd first need to have my server download it... HTTP request sent, awaiting response... And now I'm getting 30KB/s. It will be located at : http://msfn.yaxm.org/ but it has not been completed yet (in 7 hours from now and I'll edit my post when it's done).
  22. Try chkdsk with the /R switch : it will search for bad clusters. Having a few is normal but if more than 5MB are located in bad clusters (and if this number increases over time) then the hard drive is _physically_ damaged.
  23. But they won't be in expanded form on the CD : they will be expanded at the beginning of the graphic part of the installation.
  24. Yes and no. I haven't lost interest in this project nor did I stopped working on it (the latest bugfix is from last weekend). However I'm very busy*. The package manager I want had a problem : it used an xml library (XmlLight) which is not unicode compatible and therefore is a serious limit. The other possibility for an xml parser was pxp which relies on a third library called findlib which in turn could not be used under windows (except cygwin therefore producing a slower and heavier app). I updated findlib so I can use it but pxp also needs some modifications. This should be faster to solve as I'm now pretty experienced in this field. If anyone wonders how I manage to get such problems, the answer is the team in charge of ocaml does not have big interests in windows. And, I will not code in anything else than ocaml : it produces natives, performant and safe apps and I just love the language. Anyway, there should be no problem now and I think having the package manager ready during my next holidays (one month from now) is likely. In fact, french and english people who want can have access to a test release (which showed no problems for myself and a friend of I). What prevents me from publicly releasing anything is other languages : I won't invest myself in something that is not done the proper way. As for the documentation, most of it has been written I think. So if you're interested, tell me and I'll send you a link. * je suis en prépa, MP, donc avec vraiment beaucoup de boulot et les concours dans quelques mois.
