  1. They did a review at BeHardware last week they had the ViewSonic VX2235wm not the ViewSonic VX2245wm but I don't see that much difference between them. They seemed to like the Samsung. I still prefer CRT’s – Color, Contrast, Grey Scale, Refresh Rate, No dead Pixels. http://www.behardware.com/articles/662-1/2...ond-coming.html

Your temps look good; they have a good sticky over at Tom’s Hardware about C2d temperatures. http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/Co...pict221745.html EasyTune reports Tcase on your processor where as Core Temp reports from the temperature sensing diodes in each core and is typically 15°C higher than Tcase. It must be cool in your house lower than19°C ? I had the Freezer 7 Pro. but with my overclock (see sig) my load temperatures in TAT were getting into the low 70’s (Ambient 28°C) so I switched to the Sycthe Infinity and my idle temps only dropped 2 degrees but my load temp dropped 7. I also took the fan from the Freezer 7 and attached it to the Scythe so I have push pull fans running on it and the Freezer 7 fan has no fan shroud so this also blows air on my north bridge heat pipes.

    Dx10 in XP?

This looks like a start. http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/ What it is?... It's a non-MS implementation of DirectX 10 standards... something like Wine on Linux but for Windows XP. A Pre-Alpha stage is just and idea of the idea of DirectX 10 libraries... an Alpha would be the main idea and from then on the libs will grow and hopefully get mature enough to use.
  4. I think I might know what the problem is. When I installed windows I did not have ACHI turned on in BIOS and later after installing windows I turned it on. I found this post about how to properly turn on ACHI from within windows and will try it this weekend also. http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/in...hp/t457699.html This seems to have done the trick, no problems since Thursday.
  5. I use Ccleaner and defrag my C drive every weekend, I ran AdAware and spybot (Deleted 14 cookies) I have indexing disabled. I have AVG 7.5 free for antivirus, Scanned no problems found. I haven’t tried dial-a-fix yet and will on the weekend. And defrag my d drive. I started explorer.exe viewing my drive contents and it worked fine for about ½ hour then the same problem. In task manager process running cpu usage goes from Idle 99% to explorer.exe 24% back and forth every two seconds. With explorer.exe closed cpu usage stayes idle 99%. Thanks for the replies. Zxian: I dual boot Dos and XP which is a good reason to use FAT32 I do have a 20G NTFS partition on one of my hard drives for large files. I Really don’t like semi-Journaling file systems and don’t want to start a debate about which file system is faster, better, more secure, or advanced.
  6. I have a problem with explorer.exe in WinXP home SP2 on FAT32. The problem is that When I open a window to view my disk contents the window opens but an hourglass Appears about every two seconds for about one second and my cpu usage follows this Pattern jumping to 26% and back down to zero. Exiting explorer stops the CPU usage but if you restart explorer the problem returns, only re-booting and this only fixes the problem about 50% of the time. Does any one have any ideas about what could be wrong or how to fix the problem? Thanks Sys specs in sig.
  7. Newegg generally but I recently came across Silicon Valley Compucycle while I was looking for some AS-5 ( they have free shipping on AS-5) and they have some good deals on cooling. http://www.svc.com/ I've had some bad experiences with Tiger Direct. Forget the mail in rebates.
  8. Looks good, quite similar to what I built back in December (see sig). But I'd take those ASUS covers off of your North and South bridge heatsinks.
  9. You could try the HP USB format tool. here: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197 It should also work in Vista.

  11. Bad name, I remember selenium diodes. The allowed exposure for selenium and it compounds (expressed as selenium) is: 0.2 mg/m3 OSHA TWA 0.2 mg/m3 ACGIH TWA 0.2 mg/m3 NIOSH recommended 10 hour TWA 0.1 mg/m3 DFG MAK TWA (total dust); 1 mg/m3 DFG MAK 30 minute peak, average value, once per shift Note that the odor threshold is far below these. If you smell something really rotten, like decaying onions and garlic, coming from your equipment, it is best to leave the area immediately, opening some windows on the way out. Allow the selenium dioxide vapors to dissipate for several days before you go back. If you have ever smelled this odor - believe me - you will not want to go back very soon anyway! The odor is very distinctive to say the least.
  12. For all you Do-it-yourselfers out there. Very informative and accurate. - DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, splattering it against that freshly-stained heirloom piece you were drying. WIRE WHEEL: Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprints and hard-earned guitar calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say, "YEOWW S...." ELECTRIC HAND DRILL: Normally used for spinning pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age. SKIL SAW: A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short. PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters. BELT SANDER: An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs. HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes. VISE-GRIPS: Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to Transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. WELDING GLOVES: Heavy duty leather gloves used to prolong the conduction of intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. OXYACETYLENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your shop on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside the wheel hub you want the bearing race out of. WHITWORTH SOCKETS: Once used for working on older British cars and motorcycles, they are now used mainly for impersonating that 9/16 or 1/2 inch socket you've been searching for the last 45 minutes. TABLE SAW: A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity. HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK: Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper. EIGHT-FOOT LONG YELLOW PINE 2X4: Used for levering an automobile upward off of a trapped hydraulic jack handle. TWEEZERS: A tool for removing wood splinters and wire wheel wires. E-Z OUT BOLT AND STUD EXTRACTOR: A tool ten times harder than any known drill bit that snaps neatly off in bolt holes thereby ending any possible future use. RADIAL ARM SAW: A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to scare neophytes into choosing another line of work. TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST: A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect. CRAFTSMAN 1/2 x 24-INCH SCREWDRIVER: A very large pry bar that inexplicably has an accurately machined screwdriver tip on the end opposite the handle. AVIATION METAL SNIPS: See hacksaw. TROUBLE LIGHT: The home mechanic's own tanning booth. Sometimes called a drop light, it is a good source of vitamin D, "the sunshine vitamin," which is not otherwise found under cars at night. Health benefits aside, its main purpose is to consume 40-watt light bulbs at about the same rate that 105mm howitzer shells might be used during, say, the first few hours of the Battle of the Bulge. More often dark than light, its name is somewhat misleading. PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER: Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids and for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads. STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER: A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws. AIR COMPRESSOR: A machine that takes energy produced in a coal-burning power plant 200 miles away and transforms it into compressed air that travels by hose to a Chicago Pneumatic impact wrench that grips rusty bolts which were last over tightened 30 years ago by someone at Ford, and instantly rounds off their heads. Also used to quickly snap off lug nuts. PRY BAR: A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part. HOSE CUTTER: A tool used to make hoses too short. HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit. Some primarily use it to make gaping holes in walls when hanging pictures. MECHANIC'S KNIFE: Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use. DAMMIT TOOL: Any handy tool that you grab and throw across the garage while yelling "DAMMIT" at the top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will need.
  13. HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 This utility will format any USB flash drive, with your choice of FAT, FAT32, or NTFS partition types. Optionally you can also make the disk BOOTABLE by specifying a file location. Use the Windows 98 system files available here. FIXES: Allows creation of a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB. Fixes installation issue where installation process stopped after the earlier version of software was uninstalled and the new software was not automatically installed. The installation process now restarts automatically to install the new software after uninstalling the older version. http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197
  14. Makes cleaning up infected systems just alittle bit easier (Free for personal use) MoveOnBoot allows you to Move, Copy or Delete files before Windows can lock or alter the files. The changes are made to your hard drive before Windows starts (it requires a restart of your system after you give MoveOnBoot its instructions). There are no messy boot or DOS commands, just a simple 3-step process. http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html
  15. You know you're an engineer when.... Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, 'Take what you want.'" The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit." ############################### To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be. ################################## A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude! The pastor said, "Hey, here comes the greens keeper. Let's have a word with him." "Hi George. Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?" The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind firefighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime." The group was silent for a moment. The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight." The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them." The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?" ############################## What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers? Mechanical Engineers build weapons. Civil Engineers build targets. ####################### The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?" The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?" The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?" The graduate with a Liberal Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?" ######################### Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections." The last said, "Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?" ############################ "Normal people ... believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet." ########## An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress. The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship. The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there. The engineer said, "I like both." "Both?" asked the artist. Engineer: "Yeah. If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the lab and get some work done."

  21. A Microsoft Christmas 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, except Papa's mouse. The computer was humming, the icons were hopping, As Papa did last minute Internet shopping. The stockings were hung by the modem with care In hope that St. Nicholas would bring new software. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of computer games danced in their heads. PageMaker for Billy, and Quicken for Dan, And Carmen Sandiego for Pamela Ann. The letters to Santa had been sent out by Mom, To santaclaus@toyshop.northpole.com - Which has now been re-routed to Washington State Because Santa's workshop has been bought by Bill Gates. All the elves and reindeer have had to skedaddle To flashy new quarters in suburban Seattle. After centuries of a life that was simple and spare, St. Nicholas is suddenly a new billionaire, With a shiny red Porsche in the place of his sleigh, And a house on Lake Washington that's just down the way From where Bill has his mansion. The old fellow preens In black Gucci boots and red Calvin Klein jeans. The elves have stock options and desks with a view, Where they write computer code for Johnny and Sue. No more dolls or toy soldiers or little toy drums (ahem - pardon me) No more dolls or tin soldiers or little toy drums Will be under the tree, only compact disk ROMS With the Microsoft label. So spin up your drive, From now on Christmas runs only on Win95. More rapid than eagles the competitors came, And Bill whistled, and shouted, and called them by name. "Now, ADOBE! Now, CLARIS! Now, INTUIT! too, Now, APPLE! and NETSCAPE! you are all of you through, It is Microsoft's SANTA that the kids can't resist, It's the ultimate software with a traditional twist - Recommended by no less than the jolly old elf, And on the package, a picture of Santa himself. Get 'em young, keep 'em long, is Microsoft's scheme, And a merger with Santa is a marketer's dream. To the top of the NASDAQ! to the top of the Dow! Now dash away! dash away! dash away - wow!" And Mama in her 'kerchief and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, The whir and the hum of our satellite platter, As it turned toward that new Christmas star in the sky, The SANTALITE owned by the Microsoft guy. As I sprang from my bed and was turning around, My computer turned on with a Jingle-Bells sound. And there on the screen was a smiling Bill Gates Next to jolly old Santa, two arm-in-arm mates. And I heard them exclaim in voice so bright, Have a Microsoft Christmas, and to all a good night.
  22. jcarle, If you read the P5W DH Delux specs the board only supports DDR2 533, DDR2 667 and DDR2 800. Not DDR2 1066. With the E6600 stock running at 2.4GHZ with a multiplier of 9 you only need DDR2 533. With DDR2 800 you have a headroom at stock clocking of 50% (800/533-1) and as I said you can over clock the E6600 to 3.6 GHZ before you even begin to overclock the memory. Also over 3.6GHZ you would definately need a good water cooling system. Even running with a 5/4 memory divider stock would still only require DDR2 667 and with DDR2 800 you would still have a headroom of 20% (800/667-1) at stock clocking alowing you to reach an overclock of 2.9GHZ before you start to overclock your memory. You would have to have a memory divider of 3/2 to have a stock clocked E6600 with your FSB at 266MHZ and your memory clock at 400MHZ to have no headroom with the DDR2 800 memory. I think that you will agree that Core2 Duo's respond to overclocking better when they have a 1/1 memory divider.
  23. As for the memory, the PC6400 is good enough for overclocking the CPU to 3.6 GHZ at 1 to 1 (400 MHZ FSB * 9) without overclocking the memory. I realy don't see the need for wasting the extra money on the PC8500.
  24. The 2.8G Northwood max temperature looks like 75C. CPU electrical specification chart. (scroll down about half way) http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm 56-58C looks good!
