  1. Anything sweet. I'm not kidding. Anything. GL
  2. You're worried about defrag when prefetch/wmi polling/dhcp/registry read-writes are pounding your HDD thousand times per second - all the time? GL
  3. Try fsutil behavior query disable8dot3 or in general fsutil and any help you can get on it. (I don't have 7, so fsutil might be removed or renamed). GL
  4. No, it's this. There are the default values for reverting that tweak. GL
  5. Thanks, will try it sometime... Me too, but inside the case I find very small particles of the filter (black sponge material) = unnatural black dust. Plus the filter is detached on one edge (I can see from inside the case) = it makes me very uncomfortable. I might remove it altogether. BTW if I leave the door of the small tray (with USB ports) open I get 2-3 degrees lower temps inside. It shows there's insufficient intake of air (either the filter is blocking it or the PSU fan disrupts the balance (2 fans in, 2 out without it)). GL
  6. I have that too. No metal you say? Mine's all aluminium. Can you remove the front mesh from outside? (Never done it, I'd hate to dismantle everything, and the filter inside is drowning in dust, I can feel it). GL
  7. While we're at it, a menu that goes bottom up still is unnatural to me after 14 years. I'm dead serious. GL
  8. No, they're just jealous that Microsoft doesn't feed hungry Europeans GL
  9. Glad to be of assistance. Enjoy the forums! GL
  10. Cryptographic service disabled/corrupt? .cat files deleted? There can be other reasons... GL
  11. I've seen it. regsvr32 themeui.dll regsvr32 shell32.dll Or don't; you can still click on the place where there are suppossed to be tabs (towards the left side, just a lot smaller and invisible). Try. GL
  12. Just say no. I don't know for sure, but it's probably tracking user information, who accessed it... You can disable that in preferences, but it still makes changes (and in a very sneaky way - not modifying the file's date attribute; and even if you say no!). There are programs to sanitize the embedded user information. GL
  13. The whole lot (drivers and mixer and everything for Creative cards). But it's geared towards musicians (as opposed to Creative drivers that are geared towards gamers, so it might not be what you want. But it *might* work fine for you. You'll have to uninstall everything from Creative. GL
  14. All that was needed was to wait for a couple of service packs Yeah, it was a good idea... Right? GL
  15. Something. Continuing my comment on the previous beta drivers, after using them for some time, it seemed to me they are a tiny bit slower. I didn't do any measurements, so this is highly subjective. No errors though, and they had cured one gripe I have always had with this chipset (eventd error: iastor did not respond within the timeout period); no hardware is defective and I've seen that error on many other computers; but I'm trying these ones (so far so good; plus they're signed). Services

    1. Not a measurable one. I would disable only those that: a. I'm absolutely positively sure I don't want to be running on My Computer. b. I'm absolutely positively sure wouldn't render My Computer unbootable. 2. Maybe: if another service depends on it (and that's who starts it anyway). The other service would keep waiting for it. Check dependencies (and you could sometimes fake them to make one service start sooner; I forgot where I read that, so no link, sorry). GL
  17. First step would be something like this to create your shell folder (warning: I haven't tested it whether it's actually working, just googled it). For "My Documents" you discard the above and just use {450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}. Then another challenge is how to inject it in the place you want; sadly, I have no idea how. GL

    What I removed?

Hi, I'm not familiar with your hardware, so I can only guess. In order of probability: Modems ... (and wayyyy below) ISDN Multifunctional PCMCIA Ethernet (LAN) Wireless Ethernet (WLAN) USB Ethernet GL

    0x007b error

Here's what Microsoft has to say about it: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795640.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311562 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/166238 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/163240 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/115579 http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w...36-faa6fa2cab49 In short, something with storage (disk) drives/controllers or a missing windows file. It would help if you give more explanation what you are doing and how are you doing it. GL
  20. Good, freeware and lightweight: Shell menu view Shell extensions view GL
  21. I was going for that, because I remembered an old article that explained the "intel inside" "incentives" in many details. Unfortunately, couldn't find it on Google. GL
  22. It's nothing new... GL
  23. You see, you're wrong on that one. Microsoft would never support bailout. Or would they? :D GL
  24. I watched it. Maybe you should explain more about security implications over (eventual) unsecured network? GL
