  1. always try to look the msi file with an msi editor. i try everytime to modify my setups to make them my way, and if some people want other options they you just have to select them on the setup dialogs. but for unattended install i use many modified msi files. (modified options, shorcuts, registry entries and more, not removing stuff so all is there for other people). the properties in the first post are there is you want to modify the setup to make them disabled by default (they will be unselected on the dialogs).
  2. i said to get the developer release (in zip format) because i came into problems one time when using files extracted from the normal release. also one time (for 845 chipset) i saw different filesizes on the files from exe and zip releases. so i just thougt to be safer is you use zip files instead. just a suggestion. glad you all (the ones with questions) now have them installed properly.
  3. i will install it using my own mst file without the customaction. i have one question for the activation. i work with a few computers that run photoshop (each is licensed properly). will it work for all of them if i copy all .dat files (in each computer) in my unattended to the license folder? so this way i can use the same setup for all the computers here and all will be activated with their proper license? thanks. i think making a mst file during setup routine will help you get rid of file associations and other options. just a suggestion.
  4. just a suggestion. its not easier to delete them just using del DOS command than usgin an autoit script?. if you want you can have a cmd file for each setup routine so you're better organized. i use one cmd file to delete and copy all the shorcuts i want so that my start menu is organized neatly and my desktop is cleaned. just use DEL PATHTOSHORCUT\shorcut.lnk (you can use system variables as userprofile or alluserprofiles)
  5. tuneup utilities has many features and all are neatly integrated with each other. i recommend it a lot. the ones i use the most are the registry cleaner and the scheduled system maintenance, also the tweak section is comprehensive (i prefer applying my tweaks during win setup though). you cant compare systemworks or system mechanic since tuneup utilities is about system cleaning, maintenance and tweaking with no hassles. norton and system mechanic use this-program-is-doing-a-lot-of-things-as-the-gui-suggests but i doubt it. they do the same as many freeware apps and tuneup is not as expensive as they are.
  6. you're safe now remember to get the new releases in zip archive since its always easy to just extract them into your drivers folder instead of using switches to get the inf files in the exe release.
  7. i've avoided so far using autoit scripts but i think i will give it a shot since alcohol is a must-install program for me. thanks.
  8. i check the version numbers when i install my drivers. Just copying them to Drivers/000_inf and using winnnt.sif works fine for me as posted earlier.
  9. well, i use TuneUp Utilities 2006. its very good at what it does. http://www.tune-up.com it can clear temp files (i prefer ccleaner for this), scan registry for errors, defrag registry, startup manager, file shreder, uninstaller (i use smarty uninstaller pro for this), tweak lots of windows settings and more. give it a try. it can schedule a system maintenance at specified intervals.
  10. search, there a few posts that cover the driver names. im not sure right now but i think the switches are DRIVER0=xxxx DRIVER1=xxxx
  11. can i just use this switches /auto CHECKFORUPDATES=1 CHECKFORBETAS=0 JPGPNGBMPEDITOR=0 TGAEDITOR=0 to install it silently running the original setup.exe file? another question. the other files extracted to temp folder are necessary in order to install it from the msi setup? because i wanna try to modify the msi but im not sure of the other files are required. thanks.
  12. i just downloaded the new version a few minutes ago. sad to know that silent switch is not supported. also i imagine it will be more difficult to disable the scsi service in the new setup routine used now unless there are switches to disable the install of the service. will play around with it later. will post if i found anything on it.
  13. you can try to take a snapshot of your registry prior to modifying an option and then compare it to see what changes are madre. this way usually works everytime (there are thing that dont but nothing is perfect). there are tweaks for many of your requests. i dont have my tweaks.reg so i can be of any further help here. try searching for every tweak to see if you find anything useful.
  14. Did you check your drivers after install? INTEL says to copy them to $$\inf too Without this for me it doesn't work i have double-checked them. they are installed right in my comp. are you using the files that are inside the zip or extract them via installer with switches? i have them right in just drivers\00_inf (using the one inside the zip release for developer at intel's. i have 915p chipset and is all installed. i think windows copy them to system32\inf when it installs them from drivers\00_inf. almost sure...
  15. install the play bundle and then just grab the divxdec.ax file.
  16. using winnt.sif method is the bes i found for intel inf drivers. just do as mercury says. you can download the zipped files (not the installer) from intel. extract them to $OEM$\$1\Drivers\00_inf or whatever folder you want, preferably first folder as intel says is better to install first inf then all other drivers. then just use OemPnpDriversPath = "Drivers\00_inf" in you winnt.sif file. there is no need to extract them to $$\inf i just use them in drivers\00_inf and is working well.
  17. well, this section of msfn forum is for silent/unattended installs. they are only the solution to unattended installs of windows and programs not for troubleshoot faulty setups. but to answer your question: adobe has cumulative updates for 7.0.5 and 7.0.7 wich have previous updates. you only need to download the cumulative update 7.0.7 it will install 7.0.5 (wich is also cumulative) and then update to 7.0.7. here thie cumulative patch worked great with me.
  18. i dont have divx in my ua dvd because i only use xvid (even for encoding video), but i have a suggestion. maybe you shloud try to grab the activex filters that divx uses and just use command line switches to register them unattended. this way works with a few codecs i had to use before. i only registered the .ax files. maybe this doesnt work for divx but give it a try.
  19. dboone, check the values you changed. maybe there is the problem. you just have to add a 0 values to them as in the picture. nothing else.
  20. i have used driver genius before for devices that dont use control panels, programs to manage them etc. if your device just need drivers and nothing else you can grab the drivers with driver genius and then install them using winnt.sif method described in the unattended guide.
  21. read my reply above yours: 2) For the Control Center: extract it like display drivers. need to do an admin install point for control center. to do this, run setup.exe /A and then select where you want to store the files. after it finishes, copy the files in the path you selected and use ATICCC.msi /qn /norestart in runonceex to install it. NOTE: before you install control center you need to install InstallScript Engine 9 from installshield (google it, as i dont remeber where i downloaded it) this file is also a msi file so use this switches /qn /norestart
  22. i made a post a few days ago for the multilanguage download from microsoft. check it out. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=67723 i installed spanish language with it. you can use this instructions to install in other language than english (suppoted in the multilanguage setup obviouly).
  23. you posted a few days ago that you already tested my method and worked with you. what isnt working for you? the messpatch patched files overwrite? they work. i have tested myself. just install the normal messenger or the modified setup and then use the messpatch. grab both patched files called msgslang.dll and msnmsgr.exe you just need to overwrite them silently using an SFX archive. i use winrar for this. if you dont know how to reate an SFX archive its simple. look the einrar help or do this: add both files to patched.rar then open this file and choose SFX in the toolbar. goto sfx options make path like this %systemdrive%\Program Files\MSN Messenger\ then in modes tab select hide all and overwrite all files. save the file and it will be called patched.exe execute it after the modified setup and this way all works.
  24. if you cant get a disc right now use alternatives to those programs instead. try paint.net wich is a great program for graphics. for wordpad rtf files you can open them in word or any other text processor. and im sure you will find thousands of calculators if you search for them. for a text processor download openoffice wich is free and support office documents. if this isnt enough and you want calc, mspaint and workpad. just get a windows disk and install them.
  25. if you take a look again at my picture you will see that the 4 row are the same, even with the same values on them. just change the values as i said. @python have you tried again to use your modified setup wih the patched files on it to see if it works on another machine? try uninstalling your msn, then delete the msn messenger folder in your program files folder then install your modified setup to see if it works. if not, just use a RAR SFX archive to extract and overwrite silently both files. this works well with me.
