I probably don't require PlayCenter. I just want the drivers, SoundFont samples and surround sound support. I'm gonna use Quintessential Player.

Windows 98/ME support for hardware and software
RJARRRPCGP replied to Link21's topic in Software Hangout
ANother vote towards the bad poll option stating support for junker Windows 98/ME Come on lets see some more votes for no support for junker Windows 98/ME. The results of this poll so far are extremely discouraging!! Trash Windows 98/ME already!!! Zip it!!! -
What the bleep! Can't install DirectX 9.0c with 98Lite'ed
RJARRRPCGP replied to RJARRRPCGP's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Even when I installed the inf file, still the same error message!! Why? Is there anything else I'm missing? -
What the bleep! Can't install DirectX 9.0c with 98Lite'ed
RJARRRPCGP replied to RJARRRPCGP's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Thanks! Because I was forced to redo Windows just to install DirectX 9.0c! I didn't use the search, because appeared that I was the only one with this problem and sometimes when I use the message board search option, I don't get anywhere! I thought that the digital signature stuff didn't exist in a pre-Windows 2000 version. -
Add functions to Windows 95 shell32.dll
RJARRRPCGP replied to lleoliveira's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Hi ssmokee This 98Lite patch, only modify Explorer.exe from Windows 95 to work with Win98 shell32.dll. Windows 98 shell32.dll continue as default. That's not true. 98Lite uses both the Windows 95 explorer.exe and Windows 95 shell32.dll. This is why the dreaded "linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL" problem is occuring. -
Wrong. Except that it don't support APIC. That just means that there won't be more than 15 or 16 IRQs. With APIC, you can have at least 20 IRQs.

What the bleep! Can't install DirectX 9.0c with 98Lite'ed
RJARRRPCGP posted a topic in Windows 9x/ME
After installing a 98Lite'ed Windows 98 SE with the "Chubby" option, when I want to install DirectX 9.0c, I get the error message about the fact that a cabinet file can't be trusted!! This is even when the DirectX 9.0c installer isn't corrupted!! Is there any fix for this? -
Welp, I don't have the CD, because this sound card was given to me. Should I try to download an ISO of it? Nope. That one don't even appear to be the same model! The model of mine is SB0100. That don't look like a SB0100! The SB0100 probably is the first SoundBlaster Live sound card, thus it probably supports Windows 98 SE. This is the link based on the model code: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/d...=32&Image4.y=11 Also, the sound card was fine under Windows 2000 SP4, thus the sound card isn't bad! It smells like a hotfix is required for this!

What the bleep is this all about? The driver installer from Creative gives me the error message saying that a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 couldn't be found on my system and then terminates!! I DIDN'T GET THE WRONG DRIVER, AFAIK!! Then when I tried another one from Creative, Windows still is bitching about the the fact that MMDEVLDR can't load the driver!! Nobody told me that this was an issue with Asus A7N8X family motherboards and using a pre-Windows 2000 OS!! The Nvidia onboard audio don't have this problem. Did Creative lie to me that it's compatible with Windows 98 SE?
-
That don't sound like a PSU problem, unless there's errors and crashes. Bad performance isn't a typical of a power supply problem. It's almost always caused by a software problem or the game not having enough RAM. If you have less than 512 MB, it's time to upgrade to at least 512 MB!

Rapidshare.de, that's the problem! That host sucks IMO, because my download has gotten cut off before when I downloaded a file from them! Also, rapidshare.de will prohibit you from resuming downloads unless you cough up money to them! Thus I'm forced to completely start over again then pray that the download don't get cut off again! Major Geeks never gave me major problems. In fact, they seem to keep files for a long time.

Yes ME does, I thought 98SE didn't. Anyway I have tried to install WDM drivers for a BT 878 card. They don't work. I need to install Brooktree's vxds for it to work. So I don't think the WDM architecture is fully implemented on 9x. Windows 98 SE added WDM support. So Windows 98 SE still has high compatibility.

Because I like this OS too, I for now decided to take it out temporarily and use the Nvidia onboard APU.

Broadcom shennanigans - 57XX NIC's & b57w2k.sys
RJARRRPCGP replied to pauld_dotnet's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
If that's with a burned CD, probably your CD didn't get burned properly or nLite corrupted the Windows installation data (if you used nLite) -
Windows 98 SE refuses to load the sound card driver with the error message in the screenshot. This is with the kX Project Sound Blaster Live drivers and SoundBlaster 5.1 SB0100:

Nvidia.com is stubborn! It sometimes lies that something is supported. I remembered a while ago, I decided to download and try nTune for my nForce 1 motherboard. Nvidia.com had nForce in the list. But, it refused to even continue the installation process with the error message saying that it requires at least a nForce 2! The web site lied to me! I thus believe the same thing happened to you! Be wary, because Nvidia's web site sometimes won't warn you that it's incompatible!

On the site you gave, it says specifically *not* to use that PowerToy with Win98. Have you had any problems using it with 98SE? Just wondering why they say not to.... ivman It's the wrong one. That page is for Windows 95 only. Sorry.

WIndows 98's support for ACPI is very limited, and security updates will be up soon as Microsoft only publishes them for two years after entering the extended support phase. The hosts file is not the correct place to block sites, your firewall should handle that. Regardless, the most likely reason for the delay is not parsing the large hosts file, but attempting to contact some of the sites you have null-routed. As for the rest of the TCP suite, 98(SE)/ME handles incoming and outgoing data with far higher priority than is necessary, which is evident when transferring large files and attempting to, for example, move windows around.. I have yet to see anything other than the windows update service and root certificate update service attempt to contact microsoft or any other external site without explicitly telling it to do so. As for accessing the internet from DOS, you could install bartpe on your hard drive, it takes much less time to boot for me (when you have all the drivers integrated correctly, otherwise it can hang for a few moments during device detection) than xp does. I'm sorry, you're wrong! According to the firewall I have been using, explorer.exe tries to access the internet, even when I'm just searching for files on the HDD!

Windows 2000 with the FDV file set
RJARRRPCGP replied to RJARRRPCGP's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Yep. I got hotfixes. I did the following: 1. Slipstreamed Service Pack 4. 2. Used HFSLIP to slipstream around 15 hotfixes and slipstreamed DirectX 9.0c. Also used the FDV file set. 3. Burned the Windows CD boot sectors and the slipstreamed and HFSLIP'ed I386 folder to a Sony CD-R on an LG CD-RW drive. -
Unofficial update - new version - crashed system!
RJARRRPCGP replied to emarkay's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
The problem may be caused by a bad IDE cable or a RAM problem. -
Windows 2000 with the FDV file set
RJARRRPCGP replied to RJARRRPCGP's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I double checked, because I assumed that it was for only Internet Explorer and thus got worried that an application was trying to install Internet Explorer silently!! This is when I explicitly want a Windows 2000 installation without Internet Explorer!! I got more suspicious, because shlwapi.dll has a later creation and modified date than other files!! -
Why is this file still on the HDD? I hope that an application isn't trying to smuggle Internet Explorer on to my Windows 2000 installation. I'm now suspicious that some applications, instead of crashing or erroring, install Internet Explorer without my permission!!

That's the problem I saw before when a PATA cable was connected the wrong way on a PATA HDD or the motherboard. Are you sure the cable is on the right way. You're likely required to flip it.
-
Yeah, but I heard that the 4V option is messed up. Some people are saying that you shan't use the 4V jumper, even with RAM that requires high voltage.

New Tool to Parse $1\Drivers
RJARRRPCGP replied to mmarable's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
To get it through the firewall here. It's goofy. I can upload an EXE but if I try to upload a script the office's "network police" block me. That's because those have been well known for having viruses. I'm not nearly majorly surprised that it's blocking .vbs files.
