  2. solution is easy: first you make this variable and set it's value to 1 from command line. set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 then start the computer management Start DEVMGMT.MSC Then unhide all the devices and remove the NIC that isn't there anymore and reboot the system. Do what you have to Greets Davor
  3. "Works with Seagate drives only" I use all maxtors... powermax works only under pure dos. Greets Davor
  4. Hello I am searching for a way to test the disk/partition for readability without locking/dismounting the drive and without fixing it. I am particulary interested in standard support/resource tools that can do this. chkdsk can only 'read' the whole disk/partition if you dismount the disk, and this is what i don't want. Any solutions? Greets Davor
  5. Hello InTheWayBoy tcpip.sys has nothing to do with established connections as far as i know, but with hald-open connections. You can have more than 10 connections on XP. I don't know the exact details but this issue is most certain documented is one of the KB articles on MS site.
  6. from CMD --> net time /? After that restarting the time service may be necesary. oh and w32tm /resync Greets Davor
  7. No, it doesn't have to be windows. NTP is a RFC-standard so can be implemended in any platform.
  8. There are users that use large file (edit video files...) also, others who use many small files ... using a NW location in this case is much slower that localy storing the files. When you log off, only the 'modified' files will be updated. For small filles being slowly transfered see here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328890 and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...Q321098&SD=MSKB Anyway, this is totaly off subject to my question... 9. Hello I have a server with roaming profiles on, and one roaming profile WITHOUT the "my documents" folder on it, although it is stored localy on the default place. So the user logging on different places has no "my documents" folder available. I checked the group policies for the "exclude directories from the roaming profila" and they are all default. What I know is that the user once changed the location of his documents, and then after some time, reverted them to default location. Anyone knows how i can force the 'update' of his roaming profile directories or just the "my documents" dir? (and no, i don't want to redirect the My Doc's folder to a network server location) Greets Davor
  10. I can tell you for sure there is. If you use a VLK key, there is not. Exaclty how many times, i think only MS know that. It's probably calculated one way or other, as my office XP installation will not activate under any other name than my own, 'specified under "user" and "company". Greets Davor
  11. I can confirm what Zxian said. I had a PIII system with 256MB and when i put another HD in it (not on the same IDE channel!) and split the pagefile, the increase in performance was very! noticable, mainly because of lack of memory. Greets Davor

  13. Hi Server 2003 Gives you max 2 concurrent RD sessions WITHOUT a licensing server. So if you want more than 2 on a 2003 Server, you need to install/configure this service. For XP, no concurrent users are allowed. Before SP2 came out, M$ said it will support 1 concurrent user (1 local, 1 on RD), but it was removed from the RTM SP2 for reasons not known to me. (Maybe of license agreement of XP?) Anyhow, this 'hack' you use is from SP2 Build xxx (not RTM), not supported, and i don't know if it's stable and if it works correctly. Does it? You can not (to my knowledge) install licensing service on a XP machine, and you can not have any concurrent sessions on it eather. Only with 3th party software. Greets Davor
  14. Yes You can use the MCE 2005 CD's to install XP Pro or XP MCE ... all depends on the key you type when installing. Greets Davor
  15. Windows still continues to use a pagefile. It is documented in one of the MS KB articles ... you should look there for detailed info. Also, you will not gain any speed, if that's what you think.
  16. Hello Is it possible to change the WindowsKey with Crtl+D key with ScanCode Map Key in the registry? In other words, does anyone know the virtual key of Crtl+D? I have only found the code of Right Windows key, and that is: 5C (I rather use Scancode map than a 3th party program because of the resources and because it's computed on the hardware level without any additional drivers that tend to screw up the system) Greets Davor
  17. Hello I have 2 displays on 1 VGA. Using nVidia Dualview. When I click on an executable i want to be able to choose on which display to start in fullscreen. One way to do this is to choose the primary display in "display properties", but it's not a handy soution. Does windows have any command lines for this? I down't want to use any 3th pary applications for this eather. Just want a siple 'manual' way if any exists. Greets Davor
