  1. Could be a build-in windows function. Download TweakUI from MS site. There you have an option from explorer to delete stuff on exit as i recall. Or maybe it has something to do with autocomplete option in explorer ...? Greets Davor
  2. Check the HD LED while booting. If it's constantly on then the HD is the problem. Check that the transfer mode is UDMA 5 or more It shouldn't make any difference on which channel it is. If not, then the problem is elswhere. Greets Davor
  3. This should be it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;285107 Greets Davor
  4. You should best go to the publisher's support website and look there for further info in faq's/knowledge bases ... and if you find nothing, contact one of theirs support representatives... Greets Davor
  5. Hmm, The cookies is normal. They probably refer to the cookies flder in your documents and settings folder. Its normal that you don't see the ETO36HQ9 and GD6ZoLAN in the TIF folder, but you should see the jpg file Cleaning IE cahche doesn't include clearing coockies. In IE options-> you have 2 buttons, 1 for clearing files, other for clearing cookies. I haven't tested myself the cookie button (like cookies ), but i assume that once clearing them, the TIF folder should be empty and the contens.IE5 folder would 'almost' be empty. I doens't seem to be worth of hiding indeed, but there was something about it. maybe one of these days i will look further into it. Greets Davor
  6. Well, aspenjim gave you an answer. Anyhow, here is more: When you open the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder you see all the files that are IN THE Content.IE folder. In other words, the files in 'Temporary Internet Files' refere to their exact location which is 'Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE\xxxxxx\yourfile.extension'. The reason the player showed the path, but the file wasn't there is because it once was there, but was deleted and the player didn't refresh it's list. As the name suggests: it's about temporary files: they come and go. You can SEE THE EXACT FOLDER STRUCTURE if you logon with another user account, and go to C:\Documents and Settings\Terry Pinnell\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files--> then you will see the contents.IE folder and NO other files. Also, looking from your account, contents.IE folder isn't visible, but it's still ACCESIBLE: just type C:\Documents and Settings\Terry Pinnell\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 in start->run or CMD As for why this is so (seemengly dubble files, hidden contents.IE folder, maps with names as numbers,...), I once read it's because of security reasons not known to me, which i would like to know That enough? 7. well, if the reboots are random, as you say, it suggest the problem is failing hardware, and so it isn't 'coded'. anyhow, as you ran memtest, you also 'tested' your cpu ... something has to 'compare' the values, no? what i would do is last time try to set all the possible biossettings to disable, so not just default, (even maybe the UDMA, but this would probably make your PC extremly slow). If it still crashes the problem with highest probablility is IMO the PSU, as coconut suggested. (what also might be is extreme temp on the componets, but thats unprobable, atleast if your incase temperature is below, lets say 50°C) Greets Davor
  8. Now that you have the solution, you mind telling me how you managed to change the letter of your system partition? Greets davor
  9. Hello aspenjim What makes you say controversial? Sry for my 'rather offtopic' question . Greets Davor
  10. albator, please read the whole post before posting. can't argue bledd, he's never wrong I'l write down my conclusions and you won't see me back in this thead Thauzar, I never said "that nobody should use nLite" and other things that you pretty much have 'blown up', and other things about those "same pc's" is simply not true, because there is only 1 standard IDE driver, good enough to boot up all your pc's, and the rest will configures while booting. On the OTHER hand, whats wrong with having a server with basic images of some 50 different pc's in an orgaization that has 150pc's? Waste of disk space?: not in these days. About other things i will not go into detail; haven't got the will. It's nice you are a philosophy student, so am I. The first things they drilled in us about 'giving arguments' is to first fully understand the persons arguments which you are arguing. In other words, try to put yourself in his/her shoes. As a fact, personally, this is one of my biggest fears: I would feel literally a moroon if I argued someone without Understanding enough what he is taking about. In my opinion, you fail here. But don't take it hard: it's just an opinion with reasons stated above. I THINK that nLite is a very good tool, but only for admins, advanced users who use it's options for purposes that are REALY needed. Shrinking windows for limited HW resources and simple driver implementation are really useful IMO, but all the rest is nothing 'new'. My biggest sceptisizms about nLite is just because of THAT fact, and also because of the fact that i prefer 'in package' programs above others. (in onther words i don't like having 5 programs on my machine that do the same.) Orindary users/tweakers talking about their nLite and XP machine let me thing on the following: ---------------------------------------- Once I had problems with memory, went to corsair forums and saw guys posting: first guy: "My bandwidth is 2600Mb/s" other one: "No s***, with this and this I managed to get 2610Mb/s" first guy: "Noooo, you serious. I want that too!!" ... last one: "You'r all nOObs. I have 2700Mb/s!" ---------------- Now, the last guy is probably well behind the nOObs because the nOObs have a newer system, and the timeless tweaking continues. ---------------------------------------- I feel like I am past this stage ~~ After all this, i conclude i don't need nLite as a tool, but it doesn't mean i will never need it. As for the developers, keep up the good work Greets Davor
  11. Hello agonified, if I have tons of pc's, I don't think about 'installing' but about 'ghosting/imaging'. Booting up, extracting image from the server is done in a few minutes. Win PE environment offers all you need, imaging programs you can download. I only see it VERY useful for special installations for low spec 'computer-like' hardware. But for things like that i rather go with open source software (linux,...) As for Clint, i agree with you if you say --> but thats only REALY true for open source programs. With windows, you are limited to only 'components' and tons of reference books, no code. So basicly: you delete something, you'r left with trial/error if something doesn't work as expected, and looking into the roots of a problem, with even an unmodified windows, can be very time-consuming.Greets Davor
  12. hmm.. sry dude, i wouldn't know what's causing it I did a little search in MS KB's and this is what i came up on: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;315589 More i don't know, sry Greets Davor
  13. "setting"? if using windows XP try this: type control userpasswords2 in run Greets Davor
  14. no ripken204. I never used word 'illegal'. Your twisting my words. The whole point in "getting rid of stuff" (what i was saying in previous post) is dangerous because, in 95% of the cases, you don't know exactly enough what you are "getting rid of". You'r system will probably take less space, install faster, wil run 'faster' , but in despite of what?-> you don't know for 100% sure. Also, what you don't consider as a vital service now, doesn't mean you won't need it tomorrow. No, i am not complaining, i started this thread in expectation for someone to enlighten me. So far, only Asin contributed to that part a bit.
  15. you dindn't mention that earlier Does it happen with all executables? You could also see in event log for any additional information. Greets Davor
  16. No, i never used nLite. Reason why i begun with this topic is because i see so many people here mentioning nLite in their posts. So i wanted to see what it was. And to my dissapointment i don't see it so shiny as most of the people here. All i see is a costomization program that add's nothing, but all it takes is your time to remove the stuff you apparently don't need from the original and so to customize your system. my experience with windows is: if you don't understand it, don't touch it. and the fact is, there is no-one who understands all the differents asspects of an OS these days. XP is made as a whole, and the fact that you don't have the possibility/option to remove someting has it's own reasons that sometimes go beyond the monopoly of MS. In other words, customizing the system that isn't opensource seems to me like asking for extra trouble. Ah well, don't mind me. Greets Davor
  17. It's nice to see so many people voting for linux although this is a more Microsoft oriented forum ... I would have expected 99 to 1 Greets Davor
  18. Try testing your memory with memtest86+ ... you shouldn't have any errors. best is to let it run all night. greets Davor
  19. this error isn't saying that the application is 16-bit as far as i under stand it. If it was it would run. What it IS more likely saying, is that the exe is corrupted. Btw, as far as i can remember seeing GTA2 is looked 3D using directx? And it's not that old... seems to me it is a win32 app. Greets Davor
  20. SP integration ... eum, that no benefit, -> you don't need a program for that. Component removal ... eum, most components are already available for removal. I don't see any point in removing 'standard" software as it only leads to problems because som programs are linked (example outlook express/MSN4). Anyhow, maybe nice for someone who want's a highly personalized computer? Unattended setup ... eum, look in deploy.cab or something like that. it's contains a wizard for unatended setup. Also some pre-deployment tools like factory.exe Driver integration... well, also posible manualy and maybe more timeconsuming. Hotfixes integrtions .. same as for SP's. Tweaks...kinda? Pathces... i rather cal those hacks Botable ISO creation ... eum, anyone has a image burning wizard (nero/...) . Take bootimage from any bootable wincd, no emulation, boot 4 secotrs and burn... there it is. Most the thing you get you already have on your system... so whats the point? Maybe it's yust me: can't stand to have 5 programs that do the same. Greets Davor
  21. Hello Can anyone enlighten me with real benefits of nLite. I am rather sceptic about it. Besides installing/uninstalling components you like/want (as far as you can see the point in that ) is there anything else? I can't seem to get the point? Greets Davor
  22. Are you sure you have no malicious spyware/viruses? Greets Davor
  23. download TweakUI or TweakUI XP from MS website.
  24. I give seatools the preference but it doens't detect my harddrives I don't like using freeware tools made by who knows who because i have no assurance that it works correctly and it dosn't make my systems fubar. I'll see with maxtor what they have to offer that works in windows environment. Greets Davor
  25. This poll is better called "who has experience with computer company support" and the results would probably be the same
