  1. Wow 1TB of space made up of Raptors? If you put that config in RAID0, your hard drives would almost be as fast as RAM . Three suggestions, most of which assumes you got a lot of money to burn. One is that you'll need some serious case cooling if you're planning to house that many Raptors. I suggest getting a Vantec hard drive cross-blower for each one. Secondly, I'd get 4GB of DDR2-1000 RAM made by OCZ, assuming again that you have the money to burn and want the ultimate system. And lastly, if you're getting an X-Fi, consider getting one of the top models that has XRAM, because most future audio applications and games will most likely take advantage of it. So with all this powerful hardware, what exactly do you plan to do with the system? I would hope you have bigger aspirations than just word processing .
  2. It's an XP Embedded configuration file. You need to open it with Target Designer.
  3. He's saying you're downloading it illegally, which you are, and that he refuses to help someone who's obtained the software illegally. And to answer your question, if you had permission by Microsoft to download the software, the file would be an ISO, which can easily be burned onto a CD. One last note, mods please lock this topic.
  4. For those of you who I've PMed the password to, here's the first beta: http://rapidshare.de/files/17676225/ge_beta2.zip.html
  5. Maybe it's just a problem with that specific router model. Why not get a different router?
  6. So you're not using wireless, but yet your connection drops? Can you double-check you're using the right network card? Maybe you have two cards installed, and XP decided to use the wireless one.
  7. Ripken isn't breaking a single rule. He isn't developing Windows GE, nor trying to steal any of your ideas, thus he is allowed to test.
  8. No firewall either. Nothing ever happens to me. An NAT router usually blocks most of the malware that tries to find victims by port scanning or pinging, so that's most likely the problem. Even then, malware's not as big as an issue as everyone tries to make it out to be.
  9. Why don't we have a deals section for computer hardware deals? I found some nice coupons on the Dell website: P?N1PX?Z8G0KF? 20% off select Dimensions desktops BF55TC4P3X$PDH 40% off select Dimensions desktops Didn't check if they're stackable, but I tried these on a test system and the cost went from $2500 to $1700.
  10. I thought that was illegal bypassing DRM...
  11. Well I guess Ripken and ScubaSteve are right on this one...There's a likely chance I'll screw something up ...maybe burn myself with the soldering iron too. Really wanted that 30FPS increase too...
  12. An overclocked 7900GT can easily reach 7000+ 3DMarks in the 2006 edition: http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=3437&s=3 Only problem is you have to unlock the voltage. It's suppose to be as easy as following these instructions: http://sg.vr-zone.com/?i=3330&s=2 Now what I'm about to ask here might be a stupid question, but for those of us who have never taken a single electronics class, how do we even begin? How do you remove a resistor? How do you connect to ground? What's a 50K VR and how do you replace it?
  13. Or get a mini-fridge and put it in there . That way you don't need to string it that far. But seriously, it's way more cost-effective to just improve the cooling.
  14. Screenshots: 1) The properties for the drive Windows is installed on (and the \Windows directory within it, to prove Windows is installed there), to show the small size. 2) Process Explorer listing the running processes and system info. Should be pretty impressive. 3) Some program that does a lot of heavy math and shows its speed (something like a prime number finder or whatever); run it on a computer with the same specs and stock XP to show the difference. As I've said before, size doesn't matter. Process Explorer also doesn't work too well, since you can easily end lots of tasks with that. I'm not sure about the heavy math program yet, but I'll try it soon. If that doesn't work, then I'll make my own OS testing program that will be geared toward gaming and professional work environments.
  15. It's 2MB, but it's not considered XRAM. And something I noticed about both of our systems is that they're kind of outdated. Once I have my new system up, I'll see if I notice a difference in sound quality.
  16. For the past few weeks, progress on Windows GE has been minimal. This is due to the fact that the essentials have all been laid down and now Ripken and I are brainstorming features. Trouble is...we're not a creative bunch . So now I'm asking you, as a future user of Windows GE, to submit your ideas! Submissions must be sent by private message to me. Please do not post your idea in this topic, as it might be stolen be certain individuals. There are no limits to the number of ideas you may submit, but the person who submits the best idea will be the second person ever to beta test Windows XP Gamer's Edition! Keep in mind that your ideas can be as unrealistic as you want, as long as it's not impossible.
  17. Same card here. Higher end models don't really have any additional benefits other than the XRAM and improved DAC's. After reading some reviews, I suppose that there's not much of a difference compared to a decent onboard sound solution. I feel like I made a bad decision for now, but once programs actually start taking advantage of the massive power offered by the X-Fi, then you can expect to see improvements over sound quality. And what are your system specces?

    THE TEST

And don't forget these are just benchmarks. PCMark is optimized for the Intel NetBurst architecture.
  19. So are you asking how you can obtain the software legally? Because there's no use of a CD key without the software . Just give Microsoft a call and see what they can do for you.
  20. Ripken, our computer hardware genius here, claims that the driver is absolutely necessary and that without it, most of his single-core games crash.
  21. Maybe I have the settings configured wrong. Is there a tweak guide for the X-Fi?
  22. I use WMP10, but I don't think it really matters how high the bitrate is or which media player... How is it suppose to sound with X-Fi? I mean as compared to regular integrated audio.
  23. I followed your advice and played a song that had 1411kbps bitrate, but it still sounds the same .
  24. http://www.protravelgear.com/store/Electro...ones___28?Args= I have PlaneQuiet NC-6 headphones. Not sure if they're "quality" but they costed me $50 bucks and offers excellent noise-cancelling technology.
